anscn:
* anson !
SHE WASN’T LOOKING AT HIM ANYMORE . It was an empty feeling that rose in his chest and his lips parted with a shaky breath . His desire to remain angry , to remain strong in his convictions , melted away without warning , pushing itself onto a new host ; the man he’d stalked , even followed with the full intention of killing . He was a hunter , after all . But he didn’t . Like a fool , he left in fear of complicating his relationship with the girl . And maybe that was his fault . He was selfish and he never knew the full extent of her pain .
IF HE HAD , the bullet would’ve entered that bastard’s temple .
MAYBE HE COULD DO IT NOW . Leave her behind for a day or two and finish the damn job . ❛ He would’ve left you alone if he knew who I was . ❜ The words escaped as a mumble , something dark lingering beneath the surface as he released a sigh . ❛ But we’re both liars . ❜ He waved away his own words , lowering his head as he pinched the bridge of his nose .
HIS CHEST SOON FELT HOLLOW , heart rising to his throat as he looked back up at her , trying desperately to memorize the angles of her face . The way he looked at her ? He’d never looked at anyone else that way . Never thought he would . There was something soft about him , so different from the scowl and sharp features that normally painted his expression strong , but not less alluring to those around him . ❛ I can keep you safe . You don’t need to hide from me anymore , you understand ? Honestly , I hope the bastard comes here , ‘cause it’ll be the last thing he does . ❜
AND THAT WAS THE TRUTH . Anson might not have been as violent and sadistic as his family , craving the spillage of blood like a vampire does , but he knew anger . The detective had a beautiful temper and it was often that he found it bubbling beneath the surface , threatening to overflow with the wrong look or word . ❛ I need you to understand me , ❜ he said gently , leaning forward as his response fell like a hushed whisper on his lips . ❛ No more hiding from me . Please . ❜ Her absence hurt more than he’d like to admit . He spent several days and nights staring at his phone , wondering what he’d done wrong . Wondering if she was okay . He couldn’t do that , not again .
Never in her life would she have thought that she would be standing before him in this very instant. Or that the detective that had created such a problem in her shop had been the very same man that had unknowingly stolen her heart so long ago. Blake always wondered who was on the other end of the phone when they spoke, what lips dared to utter the promises of protection and adoration. What kind of man was so fearless and so sure of something that had been birthed through a computer screen. But now, as she stood before him, Anson was everything she could want and more.
That was the problem though. Was he hers? Had all the time that had fallen away from them stolen what had blossomed? Blake couldn’t bare that thought, not with finally having him standing there, so close to her finger tips. No, she had to have hope. Enough hope to at last get her to walk away from him. Maybe there was nothing left to salvage, but hope would be able to keep the young wolf’s head high when they finally parted ways.
Anson’s words fell from his lips as the space between them slowly began to melt away. The way her heart beat against her chest was anything but human, but it was certainly not supernatural. It was a woman, coming face to face with someone who had become her world. “You want me around?”, she breathed out in a question, unsure of how to process the request. If Anson wanted her around, Blake would stay. She would give into that feeling that swelled knowing that she could finally see him, could finally touch him.
Blake felt silly, like they were attempting some balancing act that neither of them wanted to perform. Like they were toeing a line in the sand that didn’t need to exist. Why fight it? Blake’s teeth caught her bottom lip, her fingers reaching out to brush along the back of his hand. She just needed to know, if this was the last time, what it would be like to touch him. “Please don’t think that I didn’t miss you or think of you everyday..”
