Excluding the crucial fact that office jobs pay you an income….if staying home to raise children and do chores and bake bread was really so much easier and more joyful than working in an office on some objective level, why aren’t men doing it? Why aren’t they chomping at the bit to be ~leisurely house husbands~ to a working wife? Why aren’t they stepping up to depend solely on someone else’s income in exchange for round-the-clock domestic labor, if it’s really as blissful and their propaganda suggests? Curious.
Thank you! This is such an important reminder.
i need pepple to understand that in the first place leather has always been made from the byproducts of butchering animals for meat, otherwise the skin is just tossed and unused. there were some companies farming for leather for a while, particuarly alligator leather, but those were not the norm. peta did so much harm in their campaigns against leather as a concept (its not unethical. yoi get the skin when an animal dies. thats why most leather clothes in the usa are cow leather, bc thats the biggest meat animal here) that its almost impossible to buy anything "leather" that isnt made of plastic that it so fragile and shitty that the very Thread Holding It Together rips the fibers apart. it will last for maybe a year two if youre lucky, and wont biodegrade and was made out of something that isnt naturally occurring in the first place and is one of the biggest causes of pollution globally
i do not care if you personally think nobody should slaughter or eat animals, it is Going to happen anyway. you cannot be so obtuse thst you think making more plastic that causes pollution endless damage to the animals you claim to care about so much is better than omnivorous human beings eating other animals and using their bodies completely.

this fucking video has two punchlines it's incredible
Here's a fun story of malicious compliance to brighten your day:
Until recently, a few people in my office had these desk shades to combat the obnoxious fluorescent lights, which is very helpful for people (like me) with migraines or other light-sensitivity issues.
A few days ago, everyone who has them was told to take them down. Different people were given different reasons - It violates fire code (it doesn't) / It blocks line of sight (sort of?). Since this goes against the existing status quo, the union reps (my beloved) jumped on it. Someone jokingly suggested using umbrella hats instead, since hats are allowed in the dress code. Today, the union reps are passing out these ridiculous things in protest:
If the rules are absurd, the resistance should match.
i am afraid of people who reblog things with no tags. not even any identifiers like the show it’s from or anything. just silence. what are you thinking?? hello??
you know what understandable have a good day
"I would never jeopardize the beans" pales in comparison to it's newest successor, "beans r not woke. How could u do this?"
I haven’t slept in three days.
I’ve been working around the clock to back up over a petabyte of research data and records and articles from the National Library of Medicine before it gets attacked by that elongated dipstick and his gestapo squad. Trying to get copies of every federal research program’s data before it gets destroyed in the crossfire. I hope to God that it won’t, but I have no confidence that it will be safe. Lots of copies keep stuff safe.
Census Bureau data that breaks down the schedules of historical census records? Gone. NIH research into anything containing the word “diversity”? At risk of deletion. I am working so hard to make sure that some glimmer of what we know is preserved before something truly terrible happens to this knowledge.
Is there any way for others to help?
That's a hell of a lot of information to save...
Following the LOCKSS ethos, you should see if you can contribute to the Archive Team’s distributed computing download of every federal database.
Archiveteam
I had a longass reply written out and then my phone fucking ate it, so let's try this again...
For anyone concerned about all the other federal sites, go look at what r/datahoarding is up to! Members have been backing up the entirety of data.cdc.gov or the HOAA + NIM + EPA + Deprtment of Education websites.
Outside of Reddit, there's groups like the End of Life Web Archive, the Harvard Law Library Innovation Lab, the Environmental Data and Governance Initiative, and other groups. They've been backing stuff up since last year to get ahead of the writing on the wall.
For people wanting to try and contribute their own efforts, what OP posted right above is excellent for that! ArchiveTeam Warrior helps Internet Archive get stuff backed up using your own devices to help split up the work. The setup has a lot of steps, but this post gives a good breakdown as to how to go about it. It'll take up some network bandwidth and storage space on your device, but it looks to be pretty automated once it's all set up.
But yeah, as it was decades ago we say it again:
I’m a busy man. Got two caution signs to remind me to slow down sometimes. Got a vibrating megaphone. Clocks. Radiation. Four goats. Got half a tank of simple columnar epithelial tissue. 60% through my day. Half a tank of gas. And it’s only 10:50.
