My thoughts and spoilers for the new Chainsaw man: reze arc movie
I definitely loved it but not as much as I wished I would mainly because I already knew what was going to happen to Reze (i.e her death and that she was the bomb hybrid) because I got spoiled early on (when chainsaw man was on episode 3-4) and because of that I wasn't able to make connection with Reze BUT it's still a good movie even if you for some reason don't care about her (similar to me).
The swimming scene kinda shocked me because like I didn't expect her to get fully naked but also I don't think it was that sexual? Opinions will probably vary on this but I found this scene as "pure" as it was intended to be, honestly I would have loved to see it be done in season 1 art-stle and art-direction, I feel like it could have benefitted from the more cinematic/realistic approach. Otherwise though I think the new art style served it's purpose well even though I will forever miss season 1 art.
My favorite scene in the whole movie is the firework kiss and the lead up to it, how she asked for him to run away with her and how she pointed out that Denji is forced to be a child soldier and how he hesitated because he was finally getting close with both, Aki and Power but also with Makima, and then when she kissed him I thought it was gonna be a normal kiss scene and only after will she she attack him but her biting off his tongue was just so UGHHH, the blood, the way her mouth was stained and it's just so fucking beautiful and unexpected and even uncomfortable I just loved it, how Denji at first was just confused so he didn't even try to transform and then BEAM THE GOAT appeared to save him and I like genuinely didn't know how Denji would have gotten out of that situation because I didn't think that Beam followed him even there but he DID and I am so thankful🥹
I remember seeing Beam at the end of season 1 and seeing him pop up in a few skits and honestly I didn't get the hype till my favorite scene, it was like seeing Todo arrive in the Mahito fight, Beam is kinda the MVP I am ngl. Also it was funny how both angel and Beam were like "that's not what I/he meant!" when Denji used his chains to make Beam a mount but then Beam was like "fuck it, we ball" and they belled indeed😭🙌🏻
Seeing Aki's and Angel's dynamic I was a bit confused on why people shipped them because honestly I didn't see how or why they would be together but then the scene where Aki decides to grab his hand and then they were like kind of hugging? I was just like "oooh, so that's why people think you're gay". Also I loved how Aki said that if Angel was going to die then to die somewhere far away from him and that he wasn't going to let his friends die no more if he could help it. Also also, Aki was also the GOAT of this fight cuz like man only had future sight yet he locked the fuck in and also the way he like sneak attacked Reze after she turned Denji into the "pochita nuggets special" was just beautiful and hopeful.
I feel like if I did connect with Reze then I would have bawled my eyes out at the finale, also idk where to put it but I apparently completely missed the part where she sang in russian because I was watching it in ukrainian dub and didn't even know that this was a thing till I watched a review a few minutes ago.
Music was also top notch as always, already illegally downloaded "Iris out" (the opening theme) and will probably also illegally-download-pirate other OSTs from that movie
Overall it's a 6.5/10 at the bare minimum, and I only say that because I couldn't enjoy Reze due to being spoiled
