Still at it
Woo!
Gotta take advantage of the great weather and get out there! Since Iām not feeling any of the sluggishness from the meds I have to take for the next 10 days, I put a trip to Costco to good use and completed a short recovery run.
Also, since itās the season to vote early and vote often, I put my political affiliations on my hat.
Another tempo run!
As Iām sure you know, these are all about adding a little more effort and building speed. I was relieved to see that despite getting to a pace of 7ā40ā, I didnāt get the requisite knee discomfort, though it did threaten to do that. I eased back on the throttle and it stopped complaining. It did, however, had had enough of my bullshit towards the end but by then I was already about to start the cooldown portion.
I have another half marathon planned in the coming days but Iām not sure how it will go. The drugs I have to be on could raise some issues. In the meantime, I really gotta quit my starbies habit.
Tried something new with my coffee
I added tequila to my cup of decaf (because I have to do something with it besides martinis) and the result was pretty mid. Maybe I put too much tequila in it (2 tablespoons) but I ended up adding kahlua and Irish cream to make it more palatable. Every recipe I found after a bit of research involves making the coffee in a completely different way (cafe de olla - frickin delicious) or add ice cream to it. Essentially, make it an affogato.
Back to the drawing board with this one.
Shitty run.
Haha, just kidding. But I did keep getting distracted and dropped to a sub-ten minute pace. Funny, considering who the first coach was in this guided run. As a result I started feeling it in the knee. To be honest I did feel a little stiff during the warmup phase but I was able to fix this plane mid flight.
10 weeks left in the program but the deadline is in four weeks. Iām considering a trial run just to see if I can get it done or how far I can go. The goal is Madame Zuzuās in Highland Park - conveniently approximately 26.2 miles from Soldier Field. Hopefully, the weather and this body will cooperate.
Iāve been struggling to learn Japanese for years but when all you know are English and a couple of Romance languages, learning an entirely new writing system and grammatical structure is a pretty big challenge. So, to finish in the number 2 spot of the highest tier is quite the achievement. I should have done the Super Duolingo thing much sooner. Itās my dream to spend a few months traveling all over Japan.
Today was rainy and cold
Had a last minute opportunity to get some miles in and dammit, I seized it.
What started out as a 20K turned into my second half marathon! š„³
I think I solved the issue with the knee stiffness. Most long runs (and some shorter ones, too) would have some degree of discomfort in the knee. This time I kept my pace above 10 minutes and I didnāt have any trouble. My knees were sore AF afterwards though.
The only problem was I had scheduled a massage appointment that day and I was really cutting it close. So even though I was done with my long run, I still had to run home, shower and get my ass out the door and then run some more to my appointment so I ended up logging a little over a half mile above what I already ran. I barely made it on time. I hate being late - especially for stuff like this.
The soreness is gone for the most part, a day later. I applied some heat and massages my calves some more with a machine I have and everything seems okay. Even the knees are fine and I managed to walk 5 miles today.
Iāll have to miss the marathon tomorrow but I may just get my 26.2 in before yearās end.
Despite the knee stiffness, I still got it done yesterday.
I really need to figure out why it gets that way. I have until December to figure it out. Iāll be doing 12.4 miles today. Maybe make a push for a second half marathon if thereās something left in the tank. I think the key here is to try to pace myself. I always have a hard time keeping my pace above 10ā5ā and just wanna GOā¦
I hope to see you out there. š
Speed run!
Had a really great run today. Three sets of speed intervals and I was able to keep pace despite being out of practice. Iām still a little concerned about the stiffness in the knee but it didnāt bother me this time around. Like yesterday, I ended my run at Philz Coffee because gotta coffee.
Gonna go for a four-miler in a couple of days and then a 12.4 mile run later this week. I might just push it a little to make it a half marathon if itās on the menu š.
Shout out to my corporate sponsors and overlords, the omnipresent Weyland-Yutani Corporation - makers of the planetary atmospheric processors for all your off-world terraforming needs.
A small handful of miles more. 11 weeks to go.
Got a really good run in yesterday!
Knee didnāt bother me as much despite the effort and distance but I have to look into the possibility that Iām hitting a lactic threshold. Donāt really know what that is yet but Iām thinking my knee issues could be related to that. Although it doesnāt explain why it hurts to bend when I donāt run.
Iām just happy I was able to get out. The weather was great and I got a nice tan while I was at it. I think someone might have taken my picture and not the one I posted hereā¦ š¤·š»āāļø
I saw this mug and I thought of me.
Another solid run yesterday
Im not gonna make my goal, though. I was really hoping I would be adequately prepared to run a marathon before November but at the rate Iām going, that probably wonāt happen. If I can get it in before the end of the year, Iāll put it in the W column. Hoping the winter starts off mild because it will be hell attempting to get it done in early ā25.
A nice short (but hard!) tempo run
Itās still tough to find time to get out for even a little bit but Iām grateful for every opportunity I get. Although I didnāt feel up to it starting out - I felt like I had a hard time breathing.l, by the end I felt better and my breathing normalized as I got into the groove. I hope to get out again tomorrow and Iām planning a nice long run later in the week!
I hit my daily Move goal for the 2,250th time!
Itās a shame about my streak, though. Broke that a few times, it sucks every time I think about it.
