College AU Prompts (but it is all quotes I have overheard at uni)

“I cried so hard during the exam, my professor had to call me in so I would identify letters for him that he couldn’t read anymore.”

(whispered aggressively halfway through a 90min linguistics lecture) “What fucking class is this? This isn’t biochem!”

“Who brought their dog to the lecture and why is it loose?” “Oh, Emma belongs to the head of the cultural sciences faculty. She likes to explore while her mom is lecturing.”

“This class literally makes me want to send a pipe bomb to the faculty.” (said right outside the lecture hall blocking the door, with their prof standing right behind them, trying to pass)

“I almost wrote ‘do you even read this’ into my paper because there is no way he sends all of us feedback that quick.” “Did you?” “No, I’m scared. What if he does correct all of our work that quick and that’s how I find out I just work astronomically slow??”

“Hello class. Across the hallway over there is my office where my son is currently being babysat through zoom by my mother. If you happen to see chaos while my back is turned, please let me know.”

writing a villain who's genuinely more interesting than your hero is a specific kind of failure that takes years to fully reckon with. you'll be in the shower three months after finishing the book and suddenly understand that you accidentally loved the wrong person the entire time and there is nothing you can do about it now. the book is done. the villain won. not in the story. in your heart. privately.

Writers have two modes and they are "i haven't written in three weeks and i am rotting from the inside and everything feels wrong and i don't know who i am anymore" and "i wrote for four hours straight and forgot to eat and it's dark outside and when did that happen and i feel like a god" and there is nothing in between. no chill. no medium setting. just famine or feast and a very confused nervous system.

What happens when your character realizes they're in love...

Here are some things that may happen when your character realizes they are in love with someone. These can be totally obvious or be super subtle. I think that can depend on your character's mannerisms and personality! Have fun writing!

Notice everything. They start to notice things about the other person. Have freak outs when they notice they notice. They notice nervous ticks, small details no one else notices, patterns.

Hyperawareness. They become hyperaware of their own bodies and what they are doing as well as the other person’s body. They are unable to think about anything other than how close the person is. What they smell like.

They may change their behavior. They may become mean, guarded or distant. They may embrace it, try to see how the other person feels. All that matters is nothing is as natural as it had felt like before. They may realize they want to share everything with that person or notice that they have been sharing everything and stop. Inconsistencies may occur where they are normal one day and distant the next while they try to make it appear like everything is the same.

Self-sabotage. Not all characters will do this, sometimes they will. They might think that the relationship will never happen and that it is doomed before it starts. It may cause them to pull away even more, stop hanging out and “protect” themselves but ultimately push the other person away. Silence becomes deafening and everything is a sign of whether the other person feels the same.

Happy Pride Month everyone! Remember 4 months ago when the CEO of this platform harassed and chased a trans woman off this website just for posting her transition timeline, then chased her to other social media platforms to continue harassing her, and threatened to call the FBI if she continued disputing the multiple dubious terminations of her blogs that did not violate tumblr's terms of service in any way? And despite tumblr staff insisting that the CEO was acting against their interests, the broad transmisogyny evident in the site's culture and moderation policy has still not been adequately addressed?
