The first time it catches her attention, Yoonchae does her best to pay no mind to it. The brightness of the ring light hits the pendant underneath Sparks' shirt just enough to reflect the light enough to draw the idol's eye.
Curiousity takes hold of her mind as quickly as a thunder strike. All of a sudden, Sophia's soft but excitedly ranting voice starts feeling more like background noise instead of clear sounds. Yoonchae squints her eyes, the gears in her head begins to turn as the small portion of Sparks' pendant she can see from her spot feels familiar-
A hand taps her shoulder before she could begin sifting through her mind on why the grooved pattern felt familiar.
"Chip, you okay?"
Yoonchae nods, keeping her expression nonchalant with hopes that the leader would let it slide. She does, and goes back to ranting about her new lyric ideas for a song they're all still at the beginnings of secretly producing. She pays closer attention to Sophia's words this time, sharing her own inputs every now and then if only to keep up the cover of not having been distracted at all.
Except she remained distracted until the day's latest photoshoot has ended, all the way back to the house she shares with Sophia, all the way into the private confines of her room. The pattern on Spark's necklace remains imprinted on her mind like a freshly inked tattoo, and a few minutes after making it into bed- Yoonchae swings her legs off the side and makes her way over to her desk to pull out a pencil and her sketchpad.
Her hand carefully retraces every line, curve, and distance from the gold necklace with ease. It takes all of ten minutes before she's happy with the rough sketch and having succeeded with wrestling down her perfectionism with her sketches.
Yoonchae pulls up google image search and runs through a few scrolls of similar images before she reaches a photo that feels like everything has clicked into place- She ends up on a deep dive looking at the Corteś gold pieces from Pirates of The Caribbean. Even finding herself a bit fixated on the lore, the backstage creation of the prop, and the comparison between the little snippet image in her mind versus the full icon on her phone screen.
It's 2:13AM by the time she remembers what she was initially searching for and why, and Yoonchae's thumb has gone from scrolling on google to hovering over Instagram as she deliberates whether it is still a sensible time to be texting Sparks or if she should wait until morning.
She falls asleep before she comes to a conclusion.
She's back on the makeup chair before she has the chance to recount how she ended up with a pounding headache worthy of being called a hangover when she doesn't even drink at all except the one time she did just to try alcohol.
The fabric of her shirt is itchy, Manon's laughing with Daniela over something, Sophia's heels are clicking as she paces to kill boredom, Lara's singing along to a song playing in her earpods, and Megan's muttering to herself over PvP strategies and it's all too much at the moment-
"Do you like movies?"
Sparks' soft whisper cuts through all of the grating noises, drawing all of Yoonchae's attention onto her question and what possibly prompted it. The Idol cracks one eye open and she finds that Spark seems very invested in what her answer might be, so she swallows the 'Why?' that almost slipped out of her lips and opts to answer directly instead.
"Yes."
The word 'Why?' almost attaches itself to the end of the confirmation, and Yoonchae has to bite her tongue and pretend that she's not at all dying to have more time hearing Spark's voice.
The makeup artist smiles, bright and gentle like her favourite Korean autumn winds, and just like that; Yoonchae thinks that biting her tongue was worth it for this woman infront of her.
"Cool! I was thinking of rewatching this favorite movie of mine later tonight, and since today's the last day of photoshoot for you guys, I thought maybe I could invite you to have a chill relaxing night! We could stream it on Discord- I mean, I stream, we're in a call, you just watch alongside me- You get what I mean… Right?"
Yoonchae loves Manon, with all her heart and all her soul. But after witnessing Spark go off on an unrestrained ramble in front of her while barely stopping to breathe has her rethinking who sits on her "#1 Personal Favourite Rapper" spot.
She smiles before replying, soft and with a bit of teeth as she chokes back the urge to let Spark in on her internal joke.
"Yeah, I get it. Can't wait to watch it with you tonight. You must love pirates, huh?"
Sparks nods enthusiastically, her smile going from nervous to beaming as she gets back to the task of applying Yoonchae's makeup while now effortlessly juggling the added task of ranting excitedly about one of her favourite media topics.
"Oh hell yes! There's just so much left to the imagination about how their lives must've been that it definitely doesn't seem weird to think they may have encountered supernatural things out there at sea considering that we now know so little of it, so they must've known even less than what we do now!"
Spark pulls away from Yoonchae's space, the feel of a makeup brush now absent from her skin. When she opens her eyes, she's greeted with the sight of her friend's smile and before her eyes could even adjust to the light- Sparks throws a fun fact right in her hands for her to do with as she pleases.
"Did you know that there's actually no source as to where the saying 'Davy Jones' Locker' came from?"
She holds so much affection for Sophia, the leader who seems unbreakable and who decided she was her older sister without prompting from anyone. For Manon who always somehow knows whether she just needs to sit in silence with someone or needs a conversation that steers her away from heavy thoughts. Lara, who teaches her so much about Western slang and pop culture and fashion inpos and always gives her RnB song recommendations. Daniela and Megan, who never ever forgets to invite her to come to parties and concerts with them despite having told them before that loud places just aren't her thing so that she doesn't feel forgotten.
Yoonchae holds so much affection in her heart already. But the people who she holds them for seems to have already grown up, or are dead set on speedrunning their way to being grown up that sometimes- She can't help but feel alone.
With Sparks in front of her, eyes so alight with joy and her hands wringing their fingers against each other, and her softly voiced info dumps about pirates- Who looks and seems to be happy to be just as young as she herself is- Yoonchae is happy to take the chance at carving out one more person shaped space in her heart for their new assistant makeup artist.
"Do you have any theories on where it could've come from?"
They get back to the topic of pirates after a long and arduous day of finishing up photoshoots for their newest drop. This time speaking through their phones and laying in their respective beds while Yoonchae waits for Sparks to share her screen and start the first movie in the series.
The internet connection is stable, the snacks are piled high, lag is at an all time low, and her energy levels still have enough in them to last three movies back to back. Except Yoonchae has a small problem on her screen she just can't seem to let slide.
"I can't see you."
"My camera's off by default, don't worry. Internet's still good!"
Petulantly, Yoonchae crosses her arms. Glaring at the camera on her laptop and being fully committed to somehow getting Sparks to turn on her camera.
"The worry is that I can't see you."
She laughs and Yoonchae can just picture her waving her hand in dismissal, the way she does when she finds a joke funny but not so funny as to make her sides hurt.
"Who even cares if my face can be seen on screen?"
The chime of a screen being shared sounds from the laptop's speaker, and because she knows that Sparks would never start the movie without first asking her if she's good to begin. Yoonchae keeps her feet firmly planted on her stance-
"I do, that's my favourite face after all."
-To what seemed like her own detriment.
A loaded silence stretches over the call and Yoonchae feels her own face begin burning up at the words that left her mouth before she could even think about its appropriateness. Before she can begin to regret her words and lack of control over them, Sparks' icon suddenly becomes a live footage.
Although it's a bit grainy and the nightlight lighting definitely doesn't help with visibility on her end, Yoonchae smiles anyway because it means she and her opinions mean something to Sparks. It's not a confirmation of anything deeper, but it's enough for her when she's someone who likes the slower pace in life.
Ironic, considering her career.
"You ready for the best 'Pirated' show of your life?"
Sparks speaks with a soft tone, like the moment is theirs alone and the world outside doesn't exist. The pun doesn't escape her but she lets it slide, and though it's a bit dim on the pirate-nerd's end, Yoonchae humors herself and allows herself to think that Sparks' eyes look softer than they usually are.
"Yeah. I don't know about the best though… Sophia claims her pirated barbie movies are THE best."
The movie begins playing and they both open their bag of chips at the same time, and Sparks' rare moment of competitiveness rears its head as she speaks with pride in her voice.
"Allow me to prove her wrong then!"
Yoonchae smiles. Staying quiet as the black screen begins to show the opening scene. This time, she manages to keep a hold of her tongue and she's able to stop herself from saying that Sparks already has proved Sophia wrong on account of just being here with her already.
They keep their eyes glued to the screen and Yoonchae keeps her focus on the movie, but she allows herself sprinkled moments of letting her eyes wander over to Sparks' image every now and then.
There's no hurry in her bones this time, not when there's three original movies and two extra cash grabs to watch after said three. The soundtrack and the cinematography is good, and she finds that the company is even better.
With everyone else around her already grown up, or dead set on seeming grown. Yoonchae's just happy to be young with someone who's as happy with going with the wind as she is.
A/N: Not fully back yet, just found a small time window to write a short cute piece for our beloved SparkChip at an Anon's prompting! As usual, I hope you guys enjoyed!
P.S: If the format seems different? It's because I forgot I usually changed the name in my YN fics, not the pov style and because I've been away for months, I forgot and am too lazy to change it now.
To be entirely clear: This is very much intended to create a legal pathway to load homeless people into vans, incarcerate, and enslave them (Most incarcerated people in the US are enslaved)
Congratulations, they’re not only going to disappear the homeless and the folks suffering from addiction, they’re also going to disappear folks with “serious mental illness.” Serious according to whom?? Are we disappearing “unruly wives” or LGBTQIA folks??
