Just this weekend. Any other one would be fine.
Something real bad must have happened then. What's on your mind?
What an awful fucking weekend.

Boo: nah to get to your house
Boo: wanna hear another joke?
Boo: i'm saying it anyway
Boo: knock knock
Uh… yeah. You’re not prying, you’re just being slightly nosy. I mean- there is, but I’m not exactly willing to share it with a person that I barely know.
Oh, sorry.
I didn't mean to be, I swear. We can stop talking about it. Do you want some chips?
Text || Boo
Ayla: RIGHT
Ayla: I'M CRYING
Boo: pls rethink all of that
Boo: but if we're telling jokes
Boo: why did the chicken cross the road
Text || Anyone
Ayla: Okay
Ayla: What did the flower say to the bicycle?
Ayla: PETAL
Ayla: LIKE PEDAL
Ayla: Get it?
Boo: omg

I'm back!
Yeah. They’re pretty whacky, but they’re still somewhat a part of the family.
I lived with monsters, so I suppose it's not much different!
I'm back!
You’re quite welcome! It was good. It seemed quite normal compared to this place. Which is strange, considering I lived with aliens.
You lived with aliens? I feel like you might have told me this before, but still, what?
Great. Glad I could be from help..
Second time you've saved me! Ha, I better start being careful, I'll be owing you soon.
Yeah, yeah I’m sure. We’ve all been a little overwhelmed before. I’m just worried about- about grades and stuff.
Are you sure? I'm sorry if I'm prying, but it sounds like there's a little more going on here.
Sure thing. Any other questions you may think won’t hurt asking?
Nope! I think I can figure out the rest. Thank you!
overture ✗ athena and boo
With the thought of ions and bonds safely far off in the future, where Athena wouldn’t have to think about it for at least another hour, she began to relax. She shook her head when Boo protested. “No, let me. It’s the least I can do. You’re saving my chemistry grade.” She smiled and glanced up at the waitress. She seemed thoroughly annoyed, but jotted down their orders on her pad and stalked off. Athena idly wondered if she had any powers too, and then immediately prayed that she didn’t; that kind of attitude plus supernatural ability could only lead to bad things.
The tension lifted palpably after the waitress exited into the kitchen, leaving Athena and Boo in comfortable silence. “Waffles and a chocolate milkshake,” she repeated. “What a balanced dinner. You should look into becoming a nutritionist,” she joked, cringing at her own attempts at humor. Mixed flashbacks of Jen and Carmen came to her, scoffing and rolling their eyes. Really? That’s your opening joke? Very impressive. She considered digging into her arsenal for another knock knock joke, but at this point that could only serve to make the situation worse, so instead, she settled for a subject change.
"So, can I ask a kinda dumb question?" she started, pressing on before Boo could answer. "What are the restaurants like on Earth?" she asked. It was an iffy topic, and she wasn’t sure if Boo would even be able to unearth any specific memories of the world she’d left behind, but she figured she’d try. Of course, questions about her friend’s home dimension were usually met with inquiries about Wonderland, but if there was anyone Athena felt comfortable fielding those questions for, it was Boo. "If you can’t remember anything, that’s fine," she continued. "I just thought…I don’t know much about it, and everything seems so interesting. I just thought I’d ask. That’s probably stupid."
Watching the waitress disappear into the kitchen, Boo smiled at Athena. "Oh, shut up," she said with a laugh. "It's not like cheese fries and a coke are much better." Truthfully, Boo was feeling a little self-conscious about having ordered a chocolate milkshake with her waffles, but it wasn't her fault that she had a crazy sweet tooth that could only be satisfied by the pairing. Yes, it was more dessert than dinner, but Boo didn't mind.
She began to look around the restaurant again, a habit of hers as she wasn't quite able to sit still all the time, acknowledging that the college kids had settled down and actually looked a bit worn out. Hearing Athena ask her something, Boo looked at her and tilted her head. "Yeah, what is it?" She was sure it wasn't going to be a dumb question, none of Athena's questions were really dumb, and she was right. "Oh! Um..." She said. At this point, Boo should have been used to questions about Earth, but sometimes it still surprised her. She furrowed her brows, trying what she could to recall anything about restaurants from Earth.
"It's not stupid, don't worry!" She quickly told Athena, trying to reassure her. "As long as you tell me what restaurants are like from Wonderland. Give me a second though..." Boo looked up at the ceiling to try to decipher in her memories which belonged to Earth and which didn't. A hazy image of a sushi restaurant floated into her memory, and suddenly Boo was able to remember a few things. Clinging onto any memories she could of Earth's restaurants, she began to tell Athena about it. "Well, they're pretty similar to restaurants here. Minus the powers. I think I remember some waitresses being just as scary." She looked over her shoulder just to make sure the waitress wasn't near them as she said that, then grinned back at Athena when the coast was clear. "I used to love going to this one sushi place with my parents. I remember sitting in the small rooms and having to take off my shoes, then sitting on small mats."
Boo looked down at the table, trying to form the images she saw in her head to proper words. "I would play with my food, and one of the waitresses would come in and see the mess I was making and laugh. I don't know if the food took a long time to come because I was an impatient child or they don't use powers or anything like that... Probably both." She chuckled. "I'm not really sure if there's much different about Earth restaurants compared to the ones here..." She racked her brain for anything else, not wanting to let down Athena, also not wanting to accept that that was all she could remember about restaurants. After a few moments, she shook her head and said, "I can't remember much else. What's it like in Wonderland?" Her curiosity about Wonderland was likely equivalent to Athena's about Earth, and that's why they worked. They both constantly wanted to know about where the other came from, they were just so different.
Yes.. Do I actually have to repeat it again?
No, but thank you!
