my name is Maureen and I pronounce it More-een. but I get Merine, Marine, Marr-een. it doesn't seem like a huge deal but when there's a Marie and a Maureen and you say my name wrong over the store PA it gets confusing.

I've never heard Marr-een til I moved to just outside the city of Pittsburgh. apparently the nickname around here for Maureen isn't Mo, it's Marr. (not a fan of either) but they also say keller instead of color out here, so..

As an IT person here are some reasons your IT person might insist on going through the basic troubleshooting steps for your problem even if you already did them yourself. This list is non exhaustive

you say you did it already, but you're lying (this has happened to me many times)

you think you did it already, but you unintentionally didn't do it right or all the way (this has also happened to me many times)

doing the troubleshooting themselves might show the IT person something and/or give them extra information to diagnose the cause of the problem

your issue might require escalation to another person, and that person probably has an important and expensive sounding job title like "Senior Engineer" or "Systems Administrator" or "Network Infrastructure Analyst II" which comes with a lot of very stressful and important things they should be doing already, and they're going to ask the IT person escalating to them if they tried all this basic stuff already, and the IT person really needs to be able to say for certain they did and it didn't work

you might not have actually done it before or might have unintentionally done it incorrectly

it might be necessary to re-do some of these steps immediately before doing some other more advanced troubleshooting step that you didn't do/don't know how to do/are not allowed to do

The IT person is buying time while they think through your issue or wait for a reply to the Slack message they sent to the SME about your issue

You might have lied or done it wrong I cannot stress enough how often this happens
