so man-shaped companion and i have been seeing each other for a little over 8 months now and the constant refrain has been casual. We are casual.

We are also exclusive. And we text a ton every day. And he asks about my day and I ask about his. We try to help each other solve problems.

Not so casual but he's very much his own man.

Like I have never met someone who is so deeply... almost offended by the "natural" social order of things. Like I thought *I* marched to the beat of my own drum and dedicated myself to having an unusual and extraordinary life but WOW he's like a level 10. I imagine I'd be that way too if my parents hadn't been so rigidly locked on being a stereotypical American family.

So I'm pretty traditional about some things, and being with him kind of throws that into high-relief especially in the romance lane. He told me recently he didn't want a "relationship" (quotes were his) whatever that meant at our age. It felt like being doused in cold water. I asked him to say more. He went on to explain that he didn't want to merge lives or have someone move into his world full time.

It fucked me up for days. Like whats the fucking point then? And also how disrespectful can you be??? You're just gonna keep me inside some box in an abandoned corner of your life???

It sparked this entire spiral about wanting to respect his boundaries and by doing that was I suppressing my needs. Which when I really thought about it i realized that while becoming entangled in the day-to-day had always been my expectation, when reflected on at length it wasn't important enough to me to call the whole thing off.

He's not rejecting me, in fact he's doing all the things good partners do to make me feel supported and cared for and prioritized. This is just another weird quirk - or past trauma - and if it makes him feel safer or more secure to set those boundaries I can accept that.

I’ve been rewatching ER and I’m in the episodes I’ve never seen before. (I think i stopped around season 6)

I really dislike Abby. Like she was fine when she was more of a background character but the Secrets and Lies episode from season 8 really sealed it that they’re trying to position her as this universally beloved, deeply sympathetic character. Susan’s “i really like Abby” to Carter and i think she even said something similar TO Abby herself felt so forced.

Shes a competent nurse but i don’t get why they’re narratively centering her. Maybe because they’re trying to make her Carter’s primary love interest and he’s essentially the lead at this point or they wanted to capitalize on having Maura Tierney.

Ive read that Abby was apparently really beloved when this aired but I genuinely don’t get it.

ALSO the revolving door of rogue doctors they trot out in an effort to replace Doug Ross is really annoying Maluchi was never likable and Pratt is less irritating but really i think it’s because Mekhi Phifer has better charisma. No one can beat George Clooney’s rizz (or the narrative scaffolding of having at least one character, especially a love interest, believe in them implicitly)

You know I have been going to therapy for like 15 years and this is the first time I've ever had a therapist where I really feel is moving the needle on all the goals I had for doing the therapy. Mainly figuring out why I have trouble with relationships - romantic or otherwise - and digging into childhood things that could be connected to social anxiety, discomfort with asking for help and romantic entanglements.

No matter what I talk about she goes through the lens of my goals. I've been seeing her for about a year

And I finally felt comfortable coming clean about falling off the wagon in regard to self-harm. I've never really talked about that with anyone in the present tense. I'd talk openly about urges and the past but if I back-slid I really didn't feel comfortable sharing that even though I knew it would likely advance my goals forward by potentially a lot.

Ultimately it's been a hard day but a good day.
