begging queer kids to read up on princess diana’s involvement with the community. yes, she was a rich, pretty monarch. yes, she died young.

but the reason why queer people love her is because she used her privilege during the aids crisis to advocate for sick queer men, when very few others would - much less someone of her status.

diana spent years advocating for the health and care of queer people with hiv/aids. in 1987, at the height of the epidemic, she opened the first specialist clinic dedicated to treating aids patients (the first clinic of it’s kind in the uk).

she also fought public hysteria by hugging and shaking bare hands with aids patients, at a time when aids was thought to be spread by skin to skin contact. not only that, she visited patients in the clinic regularly and even comforted them through their sickness.

and when queen elizabeth told her to try focusing on “something more pleasant”?

diana ignored her and kept fighting.

and this is only her work towards the aids crisis. she publicly called out the royal family, brought attention to numerous world issues, and was known as an advocate for empathy and kindness. she’s known and loved as the people’s princess for good reason

Controversial yet brave opinion, Ron was a better friend to Harry than Harry was to Ron. Compare Ron listening to Harry's problems and how he reacts compared to how Harry acts:

Ron constantly puts Harry before him, teaching him everything he can about the wizarding world, saving him from the Dursleys, helping him prepare for the duel against Malfoy, jumping head first into danger, constantly being there for Harry whenever Harry had problems, the only two times he wasn't there for Harry, Harry was miserable. He washis best friend, his therapist and his rock.

But then Harry:

’Are you coming?’ Harry asked Ron, but he shook his head, looking glum.

‘I can’t come into Hogsmeade at all; Angelina wants a full day’s training. Like it’s going to help; we’re the worst team I’ve ever seen. You should see Sloper and Kirke, they’re pathetic, even worse than I am.’ He heaved a great sigh. ‘I dunno why Angelina won’t just let me resign.’

‘It’s because you’re good when you’re on form, that’s why,’ said Harry irritably.

He found it very hard to be sympathetic to Ron’s plight, when he himself would have given almost anything to be playing in the forthcoming match against Hufflepuff.

’Must be nice,’ Ron said abruptly, when they had sat down and started serving themselves roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. ‘To have so much money you don’t notice if a pocketful of Galleons goes missing.’

‘Listen, I had other stuff on my mind that night!’ said Harry impatiently. ‘We all did, remember?’

‘I didn’t know leprechaun gold vanishes,’ Ron muttered. ‘I thought I was paying back. You should’t’ve given me that Chudley Cannon hat for Christmas.’

‘Forget it, all right?’ said Harry.

Hermione got up and walked to the window, away from the argument, watching the snow swirling down the pane.

‘Look, drop it, will you!’ Harry burst out. ‘It’s bad enough, without you blaming yourself for everything!’

Ron said nothing but sat gazing miserably at the damp hem of his robes. After a while he said in a dull voice, ‘This is the worst I’ve ever felt in my life.’

‘Join the club,’ said Harry bitterly.”

Harry literally uses the "Don't complain, I have it worse than you" Excuse people constantly use to make people sit down and take all the shit people throw at them and stay quiet about it. There are times Ron desperately needs a friend, throughout HbP, Ron is bullied by almost the entire school, just like Harry in his second and fourth year; but, unlike Ron, Harry literally tells Ron to shut up and take it, because how can anyone suffer more than little old poor Harry Potter.

I love Harry and his friendship with Ron, but there are times were he's a real jerk, yet he's not as criticized as Ron when Ron was fighting with Harry.

I came across a comment regarding Ron's character: "Ron might have been the joker of the group, but his easygoing demeanour masked someone who was constantly fighting off insecurities". It really made me wonder... I always thought of Ron as somebody who wore his heart on his sleeve and rarely hid his emotions, but it made me wonder whether Ron does frequently hide his insecurities? I really hope that made sense, and would love to hear your opinion about this?

Ron does wear his heart on his sleeve and there were indeed times where he showed a glimpse of his insecurities and how badly they affected him.

But anytime Ron shows his true feelings - anytime he tries to get help, he’s rebuffed because... because. Because there’s something else that’s more important, because Harry has so much more on his plate, because everyone around Ron acts as though it’s not a big deal. Therefore Ron thinks it’s not a big deal, too.

And look at how most of the fandom treats Ron when it comes to his feelings. “Ron was so whiny! Ron should have been grateful for what he had! Ron should just develop talent instead of complaining about not having any! Ron made up his insecurities!” Do you hate it? I know I hate it.

And of course, poor Ron has to contend with Poor Tragic Abused Orphan Harry and his very very sad life and backstory wah wah :’( and Poor Oppressed Talented Bullied Muggleborn Hermione who obviously both have it soooo much worse!!! How dare you complain Ron!! How dare you think you have problems Ron! Don’t you know poor Harry is so abused and sad! Don’t you see how badly poor Hermione is so oppressed!! How dare Ron try to say he has problems when it’s all in his head anyway!

Yeah. This fandom is a wonderful place to be in.

So, TL;DR: Ron always masked his insecurities, but sometimes his façade cracks when he’s feeling especially bad. But Harry and Hermione, whose combined Emotional Quotient is about equal to that of a brick wall, either don’t notice or just assume that it’s just a temporary thing instead of a sign of Ron being SUPER FUCKING DEPRESSED.

Honestlt, looking back through the books, there are tons of times that I think "Ron is literally everyone's therapist, who's going to once actually listen to his pain?" And I'm saying this as someone who was forced to deal with everyone's emotional distress from a young age. Having to make sure my grandma didn't die in her sleep after downing a bottle of alcohol in less than an hour, having to be a mom to my little brother because my mom was having a horrible time in her job, having to deal with my own bullying and problems.

There were times where I tried to reach out for help and was shut down because "Oh, I had an even worse day at work" Or "There are kids who are abused, why are you complaining? You have two loving parents". Watching Ron be constantly shut down by the person he considers family and by his actual family hits way too close to home. But again, "Harry has more to worry about than you", " Molly treated the twins worse", "Ginny literally had untreated anxiety and trauma". Those are always used to gaslight people into letting themselves be less than nothing, to ignore theor problems and continue to deal with other people's problems and ignore their own

If you can, buy a large umbrella and walk holding it. Studies say that predators are less likely to attempt an attack on someone that could fight back. Keys around your knuckles is fine but you’ll need to get very close to do damage. Umbrellas are more precise.

Avoid wearing headphones if you are alone on an empty street. Look aware.

Entering an uber alone? Call your father (or anyone you trust) and say “hey dad! Yep, I’m almost there, I’m sending you the route.” outloud. Then proceed to send them the route so they can follow the uber drive. This will most likely intimidate the predator.

If you see someone in an uncomfortable or possibly dangerous situation, walk up to them and say “Betty, oh my god, I haven’t seen you in so long!”. If she gets slightly confused, you can whisper and let her know you’re trying to help and that she should follow along. Walk together to another station or away from where you are. The man will most likely not follow. I have done this one 2 times and can be very helpful.

If you are unsure she needs help, you can pass her a note saying something like “hey, I noticed this man beside you is making you uncomfortable. If you’d like help, fake a sneeze right now and I will come up to you and pretend we are friends.” This is a long note, but its an example. Be discrete. If she follows along, proceed with the previous tip. This is helpful when you’re in a crowded train and you notice harassment.

Help your sisters. Trust them. Trust yourself. Be safe.

Also, if you're a guy and you see a guy making a girl super uncomfortable, talk to the guy to let her escape if you don't want to make her feel even more threatened. Example:

Ron is totally the flirty one, but he just pretends to be super confident, because even the slightest compliment undoes him. Example:

I think something that is really overlooked about Ron is just how many talents he actually has.

It seems to be a fairly common opinion that he’s the most useless out of the trio when it comes to getting out of difficult situations or finding information, but upon my reread he has so many useful skills.

I’m serious. He can drive a flying car, pick locks with a hairpin, is good at flying, super talented at chess, can mimick voices incredibly well, knows lots of information about dragons, etc. He’s also good at duelling and can think fast on his feet (he escaped from a group of snatchers on his own, stunned a death eater while flying, held his own in multiple battles).

I would definitely want Ron on my team, in any kind of bad situation.

Ron's the jack of all trades, without the obvious weaknesses of the two Hs (Harry doesn't think things through, Hermione doesn't think well on her feet).

Also, that ties with how he says "Everyone expects me to do as good as them but when I do it doesn't matter, because they've done it first".

Ron probably tried to be like his brothers to receive some praise or love, even if it was the slightest sign of it. When that didn't work he tried to overachieve everyone, learning how to drive, being the best at chess in the family, be the best at impersonating people. But when even that didn't work because people were fawning over Percy or Ginny (Who seem to get the most positive attention from teachers and Ron's parents, aside from the incident with Percy) he gave up, he didn't see a reason to even attempt to be good at something because nobody would care.

Ron is ambitious, but not as ambitious as say Percy, Charlie or the twins because he never had someone who supported him. Percy had his family and teachers that supported him to be the best in school, Charlie had his family's support in working with dragons, the twins received support from the entire school. Nobody supported Ron, he had to be everyone's biggest supporter but even he couldn't support himself.
