AU where Marjorie is solving Rhonda’s murder/ disappearance like Simon for Maddie

I love how Rhonda mentions that girls could have gotten suspended just for wearing pants to school in the 60s while she’s wearing pants she is so iconic

She likely would have gotten in trouble for like three differing parts of her outfit, pants (obviously), tight fitting sweater, and wearing a hat indoors and possibly her eyeliner

And some headcanons to go along!!

•Deeply in love with Rhonda but never told her how she felt

•She isn’t always the nicest person, she doesn’t like most people but she was always very kind and sweet to Rhonda. (After her death, Rhonda started acting more like Marjorie both as a way to try to protect herself and because she missed her)

•She’s from a large family and had to parent several of her younger siblings, her parents were also very strict and controlling. They did not like Rhonda.

•She and Rhonda bonded over their not so great parents

•She vaguely knew Janet from church when she was still alive.

•She loves classical literature and is a music nerd.

•Marjorie is a huge fan of Lesley Gore

•Understandably she did not handle Rhonda’s death well, she was both her best friend and first love

•she was very depressed throughout the rest of the decade, she made a lot of bad decisions during this like getting married

•In the early 70s she makes her album, several songs where mostly written by Rhonda and nearly the rest are written about her. It’s dedicated to her and is Marjorie’s love letter to Rhonda. Foolish Girl just became by far the most popular (and the only one Rhonda heard at the time)

•She gets divorced in the mid 70s, for a couple of reasons but the mains ones being that she’s a lesbian and was accepting that fact about herself, she generally didn’t even like the was married to as a person, and he was jealous of Rhonda.

•She never really gets over Rhonda, her death was very traumatic for her. She thinks about about her all the time and who she would’ve been if she got to grow up.

•She names her daughters after her, Alice Rose (coming from Rosen) and Rhonnie (her nickname for Rhonda)

•While her music is mostly forgotten in the 2020s a lot of younger lesbians find her music and it becomes somewhat popular in the queer community, especially with a lot of the folksy/artsy side of it

•In the late 80s she gets into a relationship with a women named Carol and they stay together for the rest of their lives. They get married as soon as it’s legalized.

•While Rhonda was mostly forgotten Marjorie did everything she could to make sure she wasn’t completely forgotten with her music and telling her story every chance she got

I imagine Rhonda’s bedroom not quite matching her actual style. I feel like it’s pastel and cutesy like her outfit when she met Joyce. She never got a chance to redecorate it after she found her true style and/or her mom wouldn’t let her. She had put up posters of her interests but other then that it’s still firmly in her comphet era. She had quite the collection of records and a ton of fashion magazines. She has a few stuffed animals she had kept from when she was little, her favorite being a cat. Marjorie is really the only person that would hang out in there with her and they had countless sleepovers.

After her death her parents keep it exactly the same as she left until the house is sold

Nothing like thinking about freshly murdered Rhonda being trapped in the school and having to hear her classmates and teachers blame and mocking her for her own murder

It seemed like Mr. Manfredo might have been a beloved figure in the school and maybe the community as a whole so people probably have been blaming her for him being put into prison

Then years later Marjorie released her album and Rhonda thought that her best friend blamed her too for probably about 50 years

Thinking about Marjorie never getting over Rhonda's death. In my mind, she wears a locket with her picture, writes secret love songs about her and visits her grave whenever she gets the chance.

While Rhonda, like all of the ghosts, is mostly forgotten, she makes sure there is at least some memory left of her.
