It was still a bit unnerving the fact that those men could still be lurking about to try and get her, but not being alone made her feel a bit better.

When Eli motioned for her, she scurried out, looking around as she climbed into her car. Her foot slipped as she pushed herself up, but she quickly caught herself and closed the car door. “I-Is it far from here?”

“About a mile and a half.“, he looked up at the sky with a worried look,” looks like it’s gonna snow soon.“, he said and went quiet for a few seconds. “If its nothing too personal, why do you think those goons were after you?”, he said, breaking the silence,“ I don’t mean to pry by any means, but I’m mighty curious.”

Kira was silent when he asked the question. Her gaze was still out the window. She sighed softly and looked over to Eli. "I…,” she pulled her sleeves over her hands to hide the bandages, “I d-don’t want to get you involved. T-The less you know… the better… I-I would tell you- you have the right t-to know since you helped me b-but i don’t want them to go a-after you too.” She answered quietly.

"All I'm gonna say is that you can trust me." , he said, then have his unbridled attention to the street as he parallel parked his truck. "We're here." , he said as he stepped out of the truck, " First two floors are all books, and she has a nice little apartment with a fireplace on the third." A bell above the door jingled as he entered and an old woman with white hair greeted him. "It's been about a week since you've been here Elias! What on earth have you been up too!" , she said with a sweet voice, then she noticed the young woman Eli was accompanied by, " And who might this lovely young lady be?", she added.

"It's definitely a big adjustment.", Slim said, putting down the rifle he was cleaning," Especially when pretty much the only home I knew before now was a two story log cabin."

“A couple, actually.”, he said, attempting to choose his words carefully ,“ They were both fine folks. One was our cook, something Paw was a little cautious about until he actually tried his cooking, he made the best sweet potato pie I’ve ever eat. The other one was our mechanic, he kept that old john deer tractor we had runnin’ like a sewin’ machine.” He paused, clearly thinking whether to tell her the last bit. Hesitantly he told her ,“ He was also the best sharp shooter we had… But don’t get the wrong idea! …When I was about seven, I went into the woods with a .22 caliber rifle to look for a wolf that had killed my favorite calf. I hadn’t walked two hundred feet from the fence before the thing pounced on me, knocking my rifle out of my hands. It had me pinned, it was growling in my face and I was sure it was the end of my story… then a gunshot rang out and it just fell on its side. I looked toward the house and there he was, with the scoped. 30-06 my Paw had given him that last Christmas. Me and my father, God rest his soul, both believe that, even though they’re machines, Omnics are children of God too, even though we don’t know if we’ll see them on the other side of Providence.” He looked toward the ground ,“ I know what the omnium has done to your homeland, but you should never judge a book by its cover. I don’t know if you know why I joined overwatch, but from the tone of your voice when you asked that question, I think you might… They were among the casualties too, those two omnics. I found Hardin, the mechanic, near the windmill with his rifle in his hand, he had been sniping at the attackers. Single bullet wound to the head, he got off easy compared to Cree, the cook. I found him in the same room as my father, ripped limb from limb, with a knife in his right hand. He didn’t know how to use a gun, but he was going to defend my father to the end…”

She tries to stay neutral about the subject, which proved more difficult than Hana anticipated. It always did, though. It wasn’t that she hated omnics, just that she had quite a list of bad experiences with them. They often made her uneasy, and as his story went on she felt her fingernails digging into her palms.

It was not out of anger, no; she was simply trying to maintain her composure as the visuals from this story meshed with the visuals she had witnessed on the field. Hana swallows with mild difficulty, just barely keeping herself grounded. “I see. That’s unfortunate about your…friends.” They sounded like friends, at least. Even if the idea of omnic friendship was somewhat off-putting to her. It was not so in the rest of the world, and she could accept that. Usually. Change the subject, she thought to herself and was quick to grasp for any such change.

“Is it what you expected? Overwatch, I mean.”

“ Yeah, it is. I didn’t have high ecpectations, though.”, he says, the grown he had turning to a small smile ,“ All I really expected was a whole lot of fighting the good fight. I never really expected that loosing one family would earn me another though. I’m honestly extremely lucky to have friends like you and the rest of the guys.” Slim raised his head to look Hana in the eyes,“ So, you’ve asked about me, now it’s my turn to ask about you. Do you play any musical instruments or sing? Not many of the folks here know this but I can sing and play the six string guitar. Got my firstly one as a Christmas present when I was six and I’ve been playing ever since.”

“I take it you’re an only child. Technically I am too, but with the ranch hands Paw hired I grew up with what amounted to twelve older brothers.”, Slim said with a chuckle,“ Practically the only place I could get half a moment to myself was the root cellar, and only an idiot would go down there during winter.” He sighed and smiled,“ I’ve got some stories about those fellers that would make you laugh so hard your jaws would hurt.”

“Twelve!?” She was an only child, yes; the idea of one sibling was foreign enough, but twelve of them? It was almost unbelievable. How did anyone get anything done with that many people around? Although, there was no doubting they grew up in very different situations, which was the key to that. “I had a lot of time to myself growing up, if I wanted it.” Hana shrugs, but quickly moves on to a new subject. Thoughts of home were touchy. “Maybe you can tell some, some day.” And then she remembers, she still has the camera in her hand. Her cheeks redden and with a huff she announces her farewell to her livestream. It was time, anyway; she’d pick it up again tomorrow, probably.

Somehow she ends up on another potentially touchy subject. “Did you have omnics on the.. ranch?” Was it a ranch, a farm? Was there a difference?

(Good God this post got long. And a bit dark at the end. Also can you tell I’m just making most of this up as I go along?)

It wasn’t her fault if anyone was caught in the crossfire of her livestream anymore; she had a pretty consistent schedule: if there were no missions and she was awake, there was a good chance the camera was on. She angles the handheld so that they both were in the shot before posing, two fingers up as she made various faces to her viewers.  

“I don’t know why you do this.”, Slim said while shaking his head,“ giving up any semblance of a personal private life for something as frivolous as temporary fame.”

Hana scoffs, an act that was drawn out and dramatic. “I have plenty of privacy.” Sort of. Searching for examples of just how much was proving a little difficult, of course, but nobody knew anything about her that she didn’t want them to know. Perhaps it was just that she didn’t keep many secrets, or maybe that she wanted someone to tell them to. “Besides, when you’re good at something, people notice. It can’t be helped.” Shoulders pull up in a leisurely shrug; that was true, of course. They noticed when you performed exceptionally - whether it was exceptionally well, or exceptionally poorly.
