90% of eating disorders begin with a diet.
30% of all diets end in an eating disorder.
99% of dieters gain back all the weight and more.
Yo-yo dieting increases your chance of high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and early death.
Diets are dangerous. Say no to diet culture.
PSA: Cellulite and stretch marks are normal. The only reason we’ve been told that they’re not is because companies want to sell you products to reduce, minimize, or eliminate these very natural body characteristics. Your body is not a photoshop picture. Stop beating yourself up for being human.
it’s so weird that i never heard anybody talk about this, but… one of the things you will notice when you start recovering is that your old coping mechanisms will stop working. they might even start hurting. which is absolutely scary, and you might even find yourself being nostalgic for worse times when you could still give into those impulses and feel the pain ease off for a while. but they stop working because you are healing. take a deep breath. see how far you’ve come. you’ll go much further yet. be proud of yourself.
how i want to dress when going to work now that everyone in the hospital has the damn flu

it doesn’t matter how good you’re doing, those sad nights will creep up on you from time to time and that’s ok. doesn’t mean all your progress is gone
It’s not stupid. I promise. It’s not stupid to turn into your 5 year old self and get happy beyond measure for the little things. It’s not stupid to be proud of yourself for completing a load of laundry and washing the dishes. You aren’t lame for patting yourself on the back when you chose a salad over a burger. You’re taking care of yourself and each victory - no matter how small - is worth celebrating.
She was never quite ready. But she was brave. And the universe listens to brave.

It doesn’t matter if it takes you longer to get there. If those around you travel faster, so be it. You are creating your own story. Your own road map. Your own adventure. There are no time limits; all that matters is that you get to where you want to go.

The hardest part about trying to recover FULLY from an eating disorder and STAY recovered this time is that it’s a permanent, daily process. I have to actively decide and choose recovery every moment of every day. It’s not something on a list I can just accomplish, check off, and move on to the next thing. It’s a permanent item on my daily list. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around and accept that.
You eat your goddamn Cheerios and bicker with the bitch in your head who keeps telling you you’re fat and weak: Shut up, you say, I’m busy, leave me alone. When she leaves you alone, there’s a silence and a solitude that will take some getting used to. You will miss her sometimes. Bear in mind she’s trying to kill you. Bear in mind you have a life to live.
