the  days  passed  scrutinizingly  slow  when  she  didn't  speak  to  nico,  that  was  simply  a  fact,  and  being  able  to  survive  a  whole  week  of  not  really  looking  at  him  was  a  miracle  in  itself.  so  even  though  she  was  confused  about  their  current  predicament  she  couldn't  bring  herself  to  promptly  vacay  his  room.  she  perched  herself  up  with  her  arms  behind  her  back  sitting  up  to  look  at  him,  the  buzz  of  his  phone  not  going  unnoticed  by  her,  it  only  managed  to  put  a  sour  expression  on  her  features  though  she  tried  to  hide  it  with  her  hair.  his  words  hit  her  like  a  truck,  if  she  was  honest  so  did  she  —  had  everything  figured  out  —  promised  herself  she  wouldn't  stay  the  night  like  she  had  done  so  many  times,  that  she  would  enjoy  herself  even  if  it  was  under  his  roof,  but  her  subconscious  took  over  as  soon  as  she  was  vulnerable  bringing  her  to  the  one  place  in  that  house  that  felt  peaceful  to  her.  "  what  are  you  trying  to  say  ?  "  perfectly  shaped  eyebrow  arches  in  question,  challenging  him  with  her  gaze.  sloane  groans  as  the  phone  buzzes  once  again,  her  head  rolling  backwards  "  of  fucking  course  you  do,  who  is  it  then  ?  the  one  that  you  were  with  last  party  ?  "  words  fall  from  her  lips  before  she  can  stop  them,  she  doesn't  want  to  know  the  answer,  she  doesn't  have  the  right  to  know  it.  "  does  it  not  matter  ?  "  eyes  searches  his  face,  feet  finally  moving  to  the  side  of  his  bed  so  she  can  get  up  from  it.

𝖿𝗈𝗋   𝖺   𝗆𝗈𝗆𝖾𝗇𝗍,   𝗇𝗂𝖼𝗈   𝗃𝗎𝗌𝗍   𝗅𝗈𝗈𝗄𝖾𝖽   𝖺𝗍   𝗁𝖾𝗋.   the   room   felt   strangely   still   despite   the   music   shaking   through   the   walls   below   them,   despite   the   muffled   roar   of   a   hundred   people   carrying   on   with   their   night.   sloane’s   question   landed   squarely   in   the   middle   of   the   room,   and   neither   of   them   seemed   willing   to   move   around   it.   the   one   from   the   last   party   ?   his   gaze   dropped   briefly,   a   crooked   laugh   escaping   him   before   he   could   stop   it.   not   amused.   just   tired.   “   seriously   ?   ”   he   pushed   off   the   doorframe,   crossing   his   arms   over   his   chest.   “   that’s   what   you   wanna   know   ?   ”   the   words   came   out   softer   than   he   intended,   which   somehow   made   them   land   harder.   his   eyes   found   hers   again.   “   you   spend   a   week   pretending   i   don’t   exist.   we   walk   around   each   other   like   strangers.   then   i   come   in   here   and   find   you   in   my   room   for   the   first   time   in   days,   and   that’s   your   question   ?   ”   he   shook   his   head   once,   looking   away   before   he   could   help   it.   the   frustration   sat   heavy   beneath   his   ribs,   tangled   up   with   relief   and   annoyance   and   something   he   didn’t   have   a   name   for.   “   you   don’t   get   to   do   that,   sloane.   ”   his   voice   stayed   quiet.   steady.   which   was   always   worse   than   yelling.   “   you   don’t   get   to   disappear,   show   back   up   in   my   bed   like   nothing   happened,   and   then   start   asking   me   about   other   girls.   ”   the   silence   that   followed   stretched   tight   between   them.   nico   swallowed   hard,   jaw   flexing.   “   if   you’re   mad   at   me,   be   mad   at   me.   if   you   wanna   leave,   leave.   if   you   wanna   tell   me   i   was   an   asshole,   join   the   club.   ”

Mitchie explained as he kept cleaning up his station, throwing away empty and any cups that have been left unattended, replacing it with a sealed water bottle or beverage. ....................it  wasn’t  like  she  never  enjoyed  parties  ,  she  was  human  .  she  was  young  and  in  college  ,  she  enjoyed  parties  .  but  she  also  knew  how  chaotic  they  could  be  and  this  party  ,  well  it  was  no  different  .  the  heavy  bass  of  some  remixed  old  song  thumped  so  loudly  in  her  ears  that  she  could  feel  it  reverberate  in  her  chest  ,  the  red  solo  cup  in  her  had  half  empty  and  certainly  tasted  like  fuel  rather  than  punch  but  she  wasn’t  about  to  touch  the  keg  of  beer  (  she  had  taste  ,  after  all  )  .  she  weaved  ,  bobbing  in  and  out  of  bodies  quickly  ,  attempting  to  find  somewhere  easy  to  breathe  ,  the  hazy  atmosphere  heavy  on  her  lungs  and  she’d  almost  made  it  through  the  throng  of  people  ,  spotting  a  space  between  bodies  ,  but  it  seemed  like  someone  had  the  same  idea  ,  bodies  colliding  enough  that  her  cup  slipped  from  her  hand  ,  slamming  to  the  floor  with  a  splash  at  her  ankles  .     ❝  ⸺  shit  ,  you  okay  ?  ❞

the bass echoes against the walls, the entire house shaking beneath natalia’s feet. she holds a cup filled halfway with cheap vodka and sprite, a combination that made her want to find the nearest bathroom already. her feet carry her through out the house, shoulders slightly tense as she clutches her drink close to her heart. as she turns the corner and brings her cup to her lips, natalia nearly jumps out of her skin at the sight of the individual in front of her. “bollocks!” she scoffed, a heart flying over her heart. “fuck, i didn’t…i didn’t mean to curse like that, you just…scared me.” she exhaled, fingers tightening around her drink.

the  music  vibrates  beneath  her,  causing  an  unease  in  her  stomach,  overstimulation  beginning  to  hit  it’s  peak  the  longer  she  stands  in  a  singular  spot.  her  body  itches  —  although  she  wants  to  blame  the  overwhelming  heat  that’s  beginning  to  emphasize  itself  as  more  individuals  enter  the  premise.  sweet,  cooperative  smiles  are  no  longer  on  features  as  she  begins  to  shift  her  frame  around  the  crowd  to  find  any  sense  of  solace  around.  a  small  peek  towards  a  clock  indicates  that  it  has  only  been  three  minutes  since  she  last  checked,  and  no,  it’s  not  polite  nor  reasonable  to  leave  a  party  thirty  minutes  after  entering;  an  irish  goodbye  too  soon  could  be  seen  as  offensive.  there’s  a  small  bump,  a  curse  and  a  splash  that  lands  near  her  feet.  pupils  look  down  towards  her  sneakers  and  the  small  puddle  made  by  the  mess,  shoulders  shrugging.   “   good  thing  i  wore  my  walmart-brand  sneakers,  huh?   ”   an  attempt  at  a  joke,  although  the  wrinkle  of  her  nose  is  enough  to  prove  she’s  also  aware  of  how  bad  the  attempt  was.

sloane  moved  through  the  familiar  room  like  she  owned  the  place,  like  she  had  every  right  to  be  there  even  if  she  hadn’t  spoken  to  the  owner  of  said  room  in  more  time  than  she  would  like.  dragging  her  feet  until  she  neared  the  bed,  she  threw  herself,  back  making  a  thud  onto  it  before  she  managed  to  squirm  off  her  shoes.  sloane  would  always  love  a  good  party  but  at  that  point  in  the  night  her  feet  were  killing  her  and  she  needed  a  break  from  it,  even  in  the  situation  she  found  herself  with  nico.  she  hears  the  door  opening  but  it  takes  her  a  full  minute  to  process  it,  she  sluggishly  turns  to  it  and  her  eyes  widden  “  fuck,  shit,  sorry.  i  shouldn’t  be  here.  ”

" you're kidding me " the femme froze , staring down at the heel of her boots that had completely snapped off . and for a moment she simply looks at it in disbelief , before eliciting a dramatic groan . " this is the worst " clutching the broken heel in one hand , the petite blonde limps towards the nearest wall and immediately flags down the first , and unfortunate , person who happened to look her way . " this is literally an emergency ... don't just stand there , help ! " she demands , holding the piece of broken shoe as evidence , " i need opinions , or a solution ... or like , a miracle ... " her gaze narrows momentarily , " and before you say it , no . i can't just take them off , i hate that idea . "

𝗍𝗁𝖾   𝗋𝗈𝗈𝖿   𝗈𝖿   𝖺𝗇   𝖺𝖻𝖺𝗇𝖽𝗈𝗇𝖾𝖽   𝖻𝖺𝗍𝗍𝗂𝗇𝗀   𝖼𝖺𝗀𝖾   𝗇𝖾𝖺𝗋   𝗁𝗂𝗌   𝗁𝗈𝗆𝖾𝗍𝗈𝗐𝗇.   he   was   fifteen,   convinced   he   was   invincible,   and   following   his   older   brother   into   trouble   like   it   was   a   full   time   job.   the   chain   link   rattled   beneath   their   sneakers   the   entire   climb,   metal   groaning   every   time   one   of   them   shifted   their   weight,   and   by   the   time   they   reached   the   top   his   mother   would’ve   killed   them   both   if   she’d   known   where   they   were.   they   sat   up   there   for   almost   an   hour   anyway,   legs   dangling   over   the   edge,   passing   a   bottle   of   gatorade   back   and   forth   while   the   field   lights   glowed   in   the   distance.   nico   remembers   feeling   impossibly   high   up,   like   the   whole   town   had   shrunk   beneath   them.   he   remembers   matteo   pointing   out   houses   and   making   up   stories   about   the   people   who   lived   inside   them.   he   remembers   laughing   so   hard   his   stomach   hurt.   mostly,   he   remembers   how   certain   he   was   that   there   would   always   be   another   night   like   that.   looking   back,   the   roof   wasn’t   actually   that   high.   it   just   felt   that   way   because   his   brother   was   sitting   beside   him.

𝗇𝗂𝖼𝗈   𝗐𝗈𝗎𝗅𝖽   𝗍𝖾𝗅𝗅   𝗒𝗈𝗎   𝗁𝖾   𝖽𝗈𝖾𝗌𝗇’𝗍   𝖼𝖺𝗋𝖾   𝖺𝖻𝗈𝗎𝗍   𝗅𝖾𝗀𝖺𝖼𝗒.   he’d   shrug,   make   a   joke,   probably   say   something   about   barely   passing   his   classes   before   changing   the   subject   entirely.   but   the   truth   is   he   cares,   just   not   in   the   way   people   usually   mean.   he   doesn’t   need   his   name   remembered   by   thousands   of   strangers.   he   doesn’t   care   about   trophies   gathering   dust   somewhere   or   records   that   eventually   get   broken.   what   matters   to   him   is   people.   the   lives   that   overlap   with   his.   the   kid   who   remembers   the   coach   who   stayed   late   after   practice.   the   friend   who   still   laughs   at   one   of   his   stories   years   later.   the   family   that   still   leaves   an   empty   seat   open   for   him   in   memory.   maybe   it   comes   from   losing   his   brother   young,   from   learning   too   early   that   people   can   leave   without   warning.   nico   knows   the   things   that   survive   aren’t   usually   the   big   things.   they’re   songs   that   still   make   somebody   think   of   you.   habits   you   accidentally   pass   on.   stories   that   get   retold   so   many   times   they   become   part   of   the   family.   if   he   leaves   anything   behind,   he   hopes   it’s   that.   proof   that   he   was   here,   that   he   loved   loudly,   and   that   somewhere   down   the   line   somebody   still   catches   themselves   thinking,   god,   nico   would’ve   loved   this.
