One of the most important pieces of WX-78's characterization to me that I don't see many people utilize is that they are a massive dork. like on par with Wilson in terms of dorkiness. they like to make puns and personify inanimate objects even if they aren't technically mechanical (see lantern quote) and it is endlessly endearing to me
