“My name is Riley Matthews, I am 18 years old and I was raped 5 months ago. This sounds like a greeting in a group meeting or therapy but it is not. I am writing this as a first entry in my diary. Your next question will be ‘Why is that?’ Because I am Riley Matthews, a daughter of a respected attorney and a university professor whose little girl can’t be or appear damaged. I couldn’t help the ‘can’t be’ part so one thing led to another. I don’t like to talk about what happened too much, all you need to know is that I went to a college party at the beginning of my senior year with Missy Bradford, a fellow cheerleader, a girl who was known for lifting her skirt up at the mere sight of a guy. So, she ditched me two and a half hours into the party to get to know a boy a little better, if you know what I mean, and that’s when it happened. Now I know to never take a drink handed to me at a party, at least never again. But I couldn’t tell my parents a single thing that happened that night, so I had to come up with something to leave the school and most importantly, town. Everyone was incredibly surprised to see me lighting up a little part of the school on fire but they had to, in order for me to ever move on from what happened to me at that party, I had to ruin my reputation and try to build a new one, in a new place. My parents started thinking about moving away, after I got thrown out of school, of course. Imagine their disappointment for a second, can you? I am pretty sure they didn’t speak to me for a few days, but of course then they had to tell me we were moving. I tried to hide it, but I was celebrating in my mind. So that leaves us here, in a little town that goes by the name of Honey Grove, also known as ‘The sweetest town in Texas.’ I guess we’ll see about that. Wish me luck, diary. “

you see, there’s so much I could say about riley and lucas’ relationship, but there’s only one thing that matters to me, right now, in this exact moment. they chose one another. it wasn’t the whole “love at first sight” thing that brought them together. they chose to be in each other’s lives. they chose to try, to learn how to be a couple and most importantly, they chose to love each other. I said this a million of times before, but lucas didn’t give riley an ultimatum by choosing her. he outright gave her a choice. he w a n t e d her to choose him. and if she didn’t, he wouldn’t push it, he wouldn’t hold it against her. he would be fine with whatever her choice would’ve been. because he loves her. and she loves him. that’s why she chose him. I can completely relate to this.. I had been seeing a guy for 7 months straight... No one else, him either... Then one day we woke up and needed to decide if this was a relationship or just gonna be a fling.. I asked him, I asked him how he felt.. He didn't fight for me that day. That day I chose him. But he didn't choose me! That's what's important.. Choosing each other.. Our unofficial thing ended because we couldn't choose each other... HE COULDNT CHOOSE ME! ALWAYS LOOK FOR or BE WITH A GUY THAT CHOSES YOU!
