Jeremy Irons for HuffPost Live 2013
As a child did you for real assume that Martha's Vineyard was a real vineyard owned by specifically Martha Stewart?
Yes
No
Not specifically Martha Stewart but I did think it was a real vineyard
when i was a kid i had never heard of martha's vineyard and i don't know why i would have
One of Steven Moffat's truly dumbest nonsensical Doctor Who ideas that I see few people question is that the word "Doctor" is derived from the Doctor's name rather than the other way around, i.e. the word "doctor" means "healer and wise man throughout the universe" due to association with the Doctor.
The problem with this is... no it doesn't!! Oh, all over the universe the "doctor" means that except on Earth where it only means that in like a couple languages and even cognates like docteur don't have the same connotations
and also like we know where the word comes from, it's not a mystery like the word dog where it just appeared at some point, we can trace it back to latin and even proto-indo-european and it did not always mean the same thing
and again, the majority of the world's languages do not have that word at all and words for "healer" or "physician" are not the same as the words for "wise man" or "teacher" or anything similar most of the time
it just makes no sense!
kinda desparately want a pizza
ugh fine I'll cook something that's lower than i thought it was

all LGBT discourse has at this point directed itself in such a way that the only available Woke paths serve to reinforce gender and gender connotations rather than deconstruct these concepts. Like so many things it feels like it would be more productive to start again from how things were conceived 20,30,40 years ago than how they are talked about now.
In the Nintendo Switch version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, the icon for the Mystic Forest world is bizarrely very easily interpretable as being intended for a snowy location instead.
Left: the icon depicts three conifers with sparkles on them, which is immedially reminiscent of lights on Christmas trees, making the icon look like it is showing a wintery scene.
Right: in reality, what the icon is supposed to be depicting is conifers surrounded by glowing fireflies. Why the fireflies are depicted as sparkles and why none of them are shown next to the trees instead of in front of them (which would remove the ambiguity) is unknown.
