weekly update two: eyes on the prize (but how?)
the best way i've found to keep myself on track for long-term projects like this is to set a series of incremental goals. in this case, i've been setting daily, weekly, and monthly goals, as well as a couple overall goals.
i created these before i started writing, because i know my own abilities pretty well. if you aren't sure how much you can write in a day, experiment! don't strive for something you won't be able to achieve, because it'll only end up making you feel like a failure. which is no good at all.
if anyone is feeling unsure of where to start, here's a breakdown of my goals, as well as my reasoning behind them!
weekly update one: The Slog
i'm not sure how often i'll do these (the title says weekly, but when i'm deep in the process, it can get a bit boring), but nevertheless, here's my first update post!
i've already done the very basic outlining and a bit of first-drafting, but i've hit my first big roadblock - the one every writer knows, dreads, and fears - The Writing Slog.
you know the feeling, when your brain feels like mush and the idea has already been exhausted? when the Hyperfixation has moved on, leaving you with a half-thought-out concept and less than 200 words of total garbage, and you just want to give up and go back to writing fanfiction for your blorbos?
we've all been there. i'm there currently. but there is hope! for me and my novel, as well as anyone else out there dealing with the same blockage.
here's my three tips to help get the juices juicing (below the cut)!
rereading my own writing is just a constant fluctuation between "damn, girl, you wrote this? (affectionate)" and "damn, girl, you wrote this? (derogatory)"
I am also “damn, girl, you wrote this? (forgetful)”
Damn girl, you wrote this?
Damn girl, you wrote this?
