Laying out the fabrics to pin and sew
Layer of gesso for my “lad” painting element.
(Pink fabric dyed using beetroot powder)
Trying my hand at editing and collaging my old experiments onto a gallery wall.
(Just for practice purposes)
Refined plan for desired layout, listing the individual elements and colour palette.
Experimented with eco dyeing. For the pink I used chopped beetroot and for the yellow I used turmeric powder. The turmeric dyed the fabric beautifully, however the beetroot faded almost completely. I want to make a second attempt, this time using beetroot powder so I have more control over the colour intensity!!
Inspired by the abstract works of Giacomo Balla (bottom image, 1915), I created these two works for myself as a break from “uni charged” paintings. However after finishing these I realised the forms in the paintings resemble those I had imagined for my assessment bow, in paint form instead of textile. Perhaps I can use the forms in my “happy accident” works as guidance for my patchwork pieces!!
Experiments for Assessment 1 using techniques inspired by Jenny Watson and Gordon Bennett.
