About my time at Full Sail University!
Becoming a writer has always been a dream of mine. It is the best and hardest thing I have ever done. Being a writer isn’t about just throwing your ideas out there all willy nilly. It’s about structure just as much as content. You constantly worry about producing something new, unseen and interesting. I’ve been a writer since I was a kid, but I have just now declared it to be so. I love writing and apparently, writing loves me.
Effective Branding Example 3#
Penelope Fletcher is an Indie fantasy author who has three separate series that she has written over the years. Fletcher focuses on her work, more than having a flashy website. The result, your eye is drawn straight to her beautiful cover art. I liked the compelling covers for her Rae Wilder series and it is what drew me to read the books in the first place. Her website is simple, so you only focus on what books she has to offer. Her writing is compelling, entertaining, and addictive. The website is reminiscent of her writing style, simple and clean.
Effective Branding Example 2#
Michael Scott is the author of “The Alchemyst” the first book in the Nicholas Flamel series. These are captivating books, merged with adventure, mystery, and a genius storyline. His website is pretty basic but gets the point across pretty easily. He’s got his whole series at the top of the page, and some of his other work as well. Along with this recent work, he also has detailed info on the characters, the map, the real story and several other goodies. His books are simple but exciting, and his website showcases his simplistic style.
Effective Branding Example 1#
Chris Colfer is an exciting, children’s author who has created an entire world in our favorite cherished nursery rhymes. His website focuses on his main series “The Land Of Stories”. The site is uplifting, bright and cheery. Exactly what the books offer to readers. His website is a good example of his style of his writing. Colfer has several books in the series and his latest work is showcased at the top. The beautiful artwork and stunning website make you want to read more of what Colfer has to offer.

Some great illustrations by artist Tammy Dickson and collaboration with me. These images sum up what my script is about I think.
Gamification Hot or Not?
When I think of Gamification, I think of Leap Pad, Duolingo, and even older games like Sesame Street on an old console. Gamification is used widely in Elearning apps and games. The achievements and levels of gameplay make kids think they are playing a game when in fact they are actually learning. It is also used in refining higher skills within jobs, such as Risk Management skills would be found in a farming game or a city building game like Simcity.
A company such as “EiDesign” focuses on providing this service to companies to help improve their employee’s skills. They provide long term gamification options, tactile, multi-platform and personalized gamification. They also have avatar based and leaderboard based games, depending on the requirements of each company.
One game example is Fold It- it is a protein based game that allows players to solve puzzles using proteins. It was developed by University of Washington’s Game Science division. It was meant to help them solve the problem of HIV.
In the Leap Pad world, a portable console that is forever changing and improving, kids play games while learning writing, math, syntax, and problem-solving. An adult version of this would be Elevate, a phone app which challenges you through certain games. You solve math faster, learn syntax faster and over time can improve skills you were slower at all while playing a game.
I have played several levels of the Elevate App and it always helps improve my skills that I struggle with. The downside to this is you have to be vigilant. If you don’t do the practice every day you will lose progress within yourself. That is where I think the downfall is with Gamification. It requires the individual to commit to the work of playing the game every day for fifteen to twenty minutes.
The Gamification is amazing on several levels, and the games that use this amazing technique are unique.

Writing a Webisode : Legends of the Scriptwriting Adventurer
Writing a webisode was surprisingly easy and hard all at the same time. As a writer, I thought writing a webisode would be a lot like writing a story, except I would have to format everything properly. That was all well and good, except I also had to imagine the scenes!
I had a hard time coming up with a concept for starters. Unlike a book, you have to think about projected filming costs. How expensive is this movie/tv show going to be? How many scenes can be used numerous times and how many will need to be built? Is it animated? That means animators will need to be hired, voice actors, not to mention sound effects. In live action tv and film there are costumes, scenes, makeup, hair, actors and actresses to hire, directors, and even though you’re just the writer, someone is going to read your script. It is up to you whether that person reading goes, “Too expensive!” or “Hey, this could work!” so while your imagination can run wild, it has to have parameters that must be met. That was the hardest thing about writing the script.
As a writer I did not think too much about my “action” being separated from my “dialogue” in fact in Novels, this is hardly an issue. Something happens and someone says something. In a script, there is so much more to think about. Each character has to be introduced, and each exterior or interior has to be labeled and properly formatted.
What was great about the experience was all the skills I acquired. Though it isn’t my main objective to become a script writer, the skills needed will help me in other areas as well. For instance, Graphic novels; now that I have a good handle on how scripts are formatted I should be able to easily make my graphic novels flow more smoothly since a graphic novel is like a moving picture without the movie.
As with everything, we should take what we learn and use it to our advantage. Will I have a career as a scriptwriter? Probably not, but the experience has made me a much better writer. Our professor had us do an assignment that was creating our own world. Doing this and having it handy makes it easier to keep tabs on what you are talking about in your script. Therefore, no accidents when you are describing Aunt Martha’s old cottage home, or what color it is; because it is right there already listed out.
Final Draft 10 is by far the most magical program I have run across since WORD 2013. It is such a great tool and is so helpful when it comes to formatting scripts for Movies, Television and Graphic Novels!
All in all the experience was scary, nerve wracking, intense, but overall fun. I am very grateful to have learned so much from my professor and my peers.
Mastery Discussion
I work in Scio, Oregon and am currently a caregiver. My job consists of grocery shopping, cleaning, doing laundry, cooking all meals and entertaining my charge. We watch television, talk, read the newspaper and occasionally we read a book together.
I would love to get involved with Habitat for Humanity. I love their movement and how they are trying to provide good homes for people.
Idea 1#
I could do youtube videos on Photoshop since I excelled in classes when I took it. Most of my fellow students followed along with me during homework sessions. This would be a good way to earn extra money.

Idea 2#
My mother is a graphic artist and she has offered to illustrate several of my childrens book ideas for me. Wanting to get into publishing also means broadening my horizons. Writing Graphic Novels and Childrens books would be benefical as well as be another way to earn money.

Designing and editing my church’s brochures would be another way to sharpen my skills. I could also do business cards, greeting cards and brochures for funerals and weddings.

Aymar’s Chosen reads
The Necromantic Ritual Book by Leila Wendell: A book of rituals for raising, controlling and speaking with the dead.
Website/Grimoire: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=529190
Contains spells to summon a deity which he would need to summon Amira. This is more of a group discussion so in Aymar’s case this would be him visiting other dark witches, perhaps ones who had ties to his mother; and he would be asking them for help on summoning a deity.
Shanrya’s chosen reads
Grimoire of the Green Witch by Anna Mouri: A collection of spells for good witches.
Website: http://www.luckymojo.com/protectionspells.html
Website has a varying amount of protection spells.. many Shanrya would most likely need to learn.
In Shanyra’s case these would be in Grimoire’s or Spell Books- but for the sake of the assignment just pretend the website is a Grimoire.

The other great use for my newly found skills would be teaching kids how to write creatively. They learn how to write papers in school, but not many learn how to have fun while writing. Secondly, as a volunteer, I could do this for free and use my skills to teach creative writing to kids who come from lesser homes.

There are many different jobs in the field of writing, and several have to do with books. Though my passion is writing, with my knowledge extensively growing I could easily use my skills to tutor other writers and help them find their “niche” so to speak. As far as commercially goes, copywriting is a job that can be done in an office or from home. Making it an easy way to make extra money while perfecting skills in writing. Copywriters must be able to explain things as easily as possible. Most of the time it’s an instruction manual for machinery or a household item. A clear explanation must be easily written. Copywriting is an excellent way to make money and gain more experience.

This image reminds me that I can use my writing in any creative way, especially in an inspirational way. Young kids are always looking for someone to tell them that they are normal, that nothing is wrong with them; my writing can provide that comment. Blogging is becoming more and more popular and with several sites that provide pay depending on clicks, it's even easier to get a message out. Even in my current line of work I could easily part time as a blogger posting inspirational poetry and stories that help everyone young and old love who they are.
