Current mood: Why is everything always a tornado?
I had things to be happy about, just not the ones I wanted.
“And I was pretty glad I had an old car so that I didn’t worry so much about people keying it in the parking lot.
Not that it really mattered, because I was usually late and had to park on the street anyway, and most of the people who hated me didn’t care enough to put in that kind of effort.
And I was pretty glad that I had never told anyone my locker combination, like I had shared my phone number, because then I didn’t have to worry as much about the hate mail.
Not that it really mattered anyway, because ripping up physical notes probably would have done less damage than throwing my phone across the room.
And I was pretty glad that I was used to spending hours studying in my room, because then I didn’t have to worry as much about my parents thinking something was wrong.
Not that it really mattered anyway, because after it was all over, all I had left were tear-stained blank pages and red eyes.
And I was pretty glad that I had immersed myself in all those clubs because then, even when my friends wouldn’t talk to me, I didn’t have to worry that there would be no one to smile at me in the hallways.
Not that it really mattered anyway, because, despite all those people, the only one I wanted to care, was you..”
“I fell in love with words But they wouldn’t love me back. We fought bitterly - Awful poetry, dry prose, Wearing syntax; I thought I was their master; That I held the whip, the water And the key; I found instead that I, Mirrored in a looking-glass, Was beating my reflection, And that the words Had conquered me.”

“My heart beats in almosts. It’s constantly in pursuit of those whom it desires but the moment it comes too close, it stops, turns, and bolts in the other direction. I hold onto what makes me miserable and I let the good things go. I’m self destructive.” I said. “It’s the way I’ve always been.” “And why do you think that is?” “Because it’s simpler to destroy something you love,” I said. “Than it is to watch it leave.”

““I see people, as they approach me, trying to make up their minds whether they’ll ‘says something about it’ or not. I hate if they do, and if the don’t.””

shout out to ace and aro kids who are constantly bombarded with the opinion that sex and romantic love are directly connected to living a happy life.
Y’all are just reblogging this at the speed of sound tonight
Since it’s almost valentines day, and this message is about to get hammered in even more, reblogging this again.
“Let go of the thoughts that do not give you strength”

Don’t trust morning you. Morning you is a dick. Morning you would sell your loved ones if it got them 5 minutes of extra sleep
maybe morning me wouldn’t be such a dick if that flaky bitch evening me had gone to bed instead of tumblring til butts oclock int he morning
Well evening me might have fallen asleep at a reasonable hour if that dumbass afternoon me hadn’t lain down for a “little nap” that lasted four hours.
“If autism isn’t caused by environmental factors and is natural why didn’t we ever see it in the past?”
We did, except it wasn’t called autism it was called “Little Jonathan is a r*tarded halfwit who bangs his head on things and can’t speak so we’re taking him into the middle of the cold dark forest and leaving him there to die.”
Or “little Jonathan doesn’t talk but does a good job herding the sheep, contributes to the community in his own way, and is, all around, a decent guy.” That happened a lot, too, especially before the 19th century.
Or, backing up FURTHER
and lots of people think this very likely,
“Oh little Sionnat has obviously been taken by the fairies and they’ve left us a Changeling Child who knows too much, and asks strange questions, and uses words she shouldn’t know, and watches everything with her big dark eyes, clearly a Fairy Child and not a Human Like Us.”
The Myth of the Changeling child, a human baby apparently replaced at a young age by a toddler who “suddenly” acts “strange and fey” is an almost textbook depiction of autistic children.
To this day, “autism warrior mommies” talk about autism “stealing” their “sweet normal child” and have this idea of “getting their real baby back” which (in the face of modern science) indicates how the human psyche actually does deal with finding out their kid acts unlike what they expected.
Given this evidence, and how common we now know autism actually is, the Changeling myth is almost definitely the result of people’s confusion at the development of autistic children.
Weirdly enough, that legend is now comforting to me.
I think it’s worth noting that many like me, who are diagnosed with ASD now, would probably have been seen as just a bit odd in centuries past. I’m only a little bit autistic; I can pass for neurotypical for short periods if I work really hard at it. I have a lack of talent in social situations, and I’m prone to sensory overload or you might notice me stimming.
But here’s the thing: life is louder, brighter and more intense and confusing than it has ever been. I live on the edge of London and I rarely go into the centre of town because it’s too overwhelming. If I went back in time and lived on a farm somewhere, would anyone even notice there was anything odd about me? No police sirens, no crowded streets that go on for miles and miles, no flickery electric lights. Working on a farm has a clear routine. I’d be a badass at spinning cloth or churning butter because I find endless repetition soothing rather than boring.
I’m not trying to romanticise the past because I know it was hard, dirty work with a constant risk of premature death. I don’t actually want to be a 16th century farmer! What I’m saying is that disability exists in the context of the environment. Our environment isn’t making people autistic in the sense of some chemical causing brain damage. But we have created a modern environment which is hostile to autistic people in many ways, which effectively makes us more disabled. When you make people more disabled, you start to see more people struggling, failing at school because they’re overwhelmed, freaking out at the sound of electric hand dryers and so on. And suddenly it looks like there’s millions more autistic people than existed before.
“…disability exists in the context of the environment.”
Reblog for disability commentary.
That last paragraph is absolutely important.
“How come nobody ever heard of ‘dyslexia’ until widespread literacy became a thing?”
Your purpose in life is not to love yourself but to love being yourself.
If you goal is to love yourself, then your focus is directed inward toward yourself, and you end up constantly watching yourself from the outside, disconnected, trying to summon the “correct” feelings towards yourself or fashion yourself into something you can approve of.
If your goal is to love being yourself, then your focus is directed outward towards life, on living and making decisions based on what brings you pleasure and fulfillment.
Be the subject, not the object. It doesn’t matter what you think of yourself. You are experiencing life. Life is not experiencing you.
Thank you this is the first post about self love that hasn’t made me want to throw things

Ace people are continuously told directly or indirectly that their existence and experience is a taboo and should not be told to anyone bc “its TMI” even among the lgbtqa spaces which claim to be “welcoming” towards ace people if they are lgbt
Ace people are expected to plead for partners who’d still date them if there was no sex involved and be glad that they were “lucky“ if they find someone who does and doesnt sleeps around with other people to “satisfy their needs”
Ace people are expected to not find any romantic partners for their whole lives bc they cant satisfy their sexual “needs”
Ace people are expected to consider their asexuality as a “last resort” after they have consulted therapists, psychologists, friends, family, lovers and complete strangers on the internet about weather they are “really asexual” or not
Ace people are constantly expected to explain every single aspect of their sexuality, experience and trauma to random strangers and expected to listen to all the times their experiences and trauma is invalidated by them by being told that it is not “as bad as X” or “Not caused by aphobia” as an excuse of “discourse”
Ace people are expected to NEVER address their complicated relationship with sex or try to feel okay for not feeling sexual attraction or want sex bc it would “sex shame” or “sexualize” other people (It fucking wont)
Ace people are expected to have their existence and experiences treated as a joke and punchline and not get angry and just “take a joke”
Ace people are expected to fit within everybody else’s idea of what an asexual should be like even if they barely have any idea of what asexuality actually is
Ace people are expected to never talk about their problems bc its not “ real oppression”
Maybe Maybe (maybeee) aphobia doesnt kill as much as homophobia ,transphobia ,biphobia etc does .But it leaves many many ace people emotionally, psychologically, mentally and many times physically damaged, exhausted and drained . Please respect ace people’s experiences , even if you cant understand them.
The “ace discourse” at this point, has become a free pass for anyone to be as nasty towards ace people as they want in the name of “the greater good” but Im telling you, they are NOT good people. No matter how much well versed they are in leftist, lgbt theory etc. They arent.
