BOTH TOWERS?
Today is mine and @brokengaming's 12th Wedding Anniversary! (22nd since we started dating)
Happy anniversary, bearbear. <3 Every day I'm in wonder at how lucky I am that someone so amazing is as unwell over me as I am over him. <3

Went to my first indy wrestling show in a long-ass time last night and had an amazing time! I missed going to Chikara shows so much, and when we heard about Power Pro Lucha and saw it had a lot of guys from the old guard (the ones who aren't in AEW or retired lol) including Ultramantic Black and Gran Akuma, we knew we had to check it out.
It was like coming home. The exact vibe I've missed and adore in pro wrestling! Comedy, acrobatics, great technical stuff, big meaty men slapping meat, and even some garbage wrestling thanks to Nemesis and Joey Janela (ft a plastic Buster Sword and several doors and steel chairs lol). My throat hurt so much from screaming by the end of the night, and I'm still so jazzed from it. We went to grab food afterward and just talked about the show and about our old days going to Chikara shows. PPL really is an amazing spiritual successor without that shitbird Quackenbush anywhere near it lmao.
And as a longtime FIST fan it was really cool seeing the new generation of the team and how much they keep the proper vibe of hypercompetent asskickers who also wheedle and pester the ref and banter rudely with the crowd back and forth and are generally hilarious. You can tell Gran Akuma has guided them well. <3
In fact, I wore my old FIST shirt (which is old enough to vote oof) and got a lot of compliments from people! I had a lovely convo with a guy who used to go to Chikara when he was a kid, and now he's there at PPL with *his* kids, and oh man that's so sweet. My shirt also got recognized by a lovely older couple sitting in front of us, who then talked about the old days, asked if I remembered Icarus (a former FIST member who iirc has since retired, and was an amazing hateable heel with bonkers acrobatic skill), and commiserated a bit, only for us to learn they're the parents of current FIST member Travis Huckabee! :D It was so nice! When I hit the merch table after the show all three members saw my shirt and were like YOOOOOOOOOOO how old is that shirt?! XD It was really cool. I bought Huckabee's shirt and he gave me a pin with it, too.
Suffice to say, I'm glad I decided to wear that shirt. :3
Also Max Smashmaster was there (his match with Big Callux was an excellent big man match, generally something I find a little boring but those two really showed what that style can do) and was selling little 3D printed figures of himself! He said he modeled them himself, which I was hype about. I complimented his very cool mask he wears for his entrance (really excellent eva foamcraft) and he said he got it on etsy lol. Complimented his match and he said thanks but he's covered in red marks and bruises including on his face and he was like "I'm going to Hersheypark tomorrow like this! D:" and it was adorable. (Ngl dude is HANDSOME up close!)
Genuinely a wonderful time, and I'm sad we can't go to the July show because it's on larp weekend, but we'll probably buy the IPPV to stream since it's Sunday night after the game'll be over. Their Attack on Trios tourney (the successor to Chikara's King of Trios) is in September, so we're gonna try to go to that. <3 I'm hooked, and I can't wait to see more!

This is Labyrinth of Madness (1995), which Shannon Appelcline tells me was considered S6 at the time of its creation (unlike Dancing Hut, this is slightly more apparent because it includes an illustration booklet a la Tomb of Horrors et al). It’s a complex, extremely difficult dungeoncrawl intended for the highest-level characters. The goal is to break the power of the Labryinth’s inhabitants (a cult of yuan-ti and, ultimately, a mad titan) and rescue the imprisoned soul of a paladin (who, amusingly, didn’t meet the suggested level minimum for the dungeon).
The dungeon is full of old school assholery (though not on the level of Tomb of Horrors). Lots of traps and deadly puzzles. Lots of “clever” tactics for classic monsters. For instance, trolls in one of the very first encounters wield long poles with glass bulbs at the end — in the bulbs are black puddings that are released onto a target when the glass shatters on impact. There is also a walking suit for beholders, which predates I, Tyrant by about a year.
Two additional wrinkles are more modern. The architecture of the dungeon is decidedly three-dimensional, which cuts against player expectation (dungeon design in generally is usually “flat” for lack of a better word) and honestly makes running it seem a bit more challenging than I like. There is also a unifying puzzle involving 20 sigils that must be found and activated in order. Sigils bind to characters and allow them to see objects and situations that are keyed to the associated symbol. If a character doesn’t have a sigil associated with a door, for example, that door simply doesn’t exist for them. Same for a book or magic item and so on. This is also a pain in the neck to account for while running the game, just a layer of really complicated information to constantly manage, but I also really like it. I might not have implemented it on so large a scale, but I enjoy the revelatory quality it imparts and the levels of interaction it opens up.
All in all, a worthy end to the S-series adventures. And if you don’t want a hell dungeon, it’s easy enough to dial down the difficulty, another facet I appreciate.
Cover art by Jeff Easley. Usually, this is the sort of cover I would say is underwhelming, but in this case, I think it works. I like all the leering heads. Dan Frazier is the interior illustrator. I’m not familiar with his work, but I think he does well, especially with the room illustrations in the booklet. Diesel has some nice cartography in here, too. Not at all sure why this has gray bordered trade dress, though. Not sure any other book of this era does?
