The wish had been hissed out at midnight. It was a wish made from frustration after cursing at his parents. His parents told him that he should use his summer break to study to get ahead for school in the fall. He should play his video games and Dungeons and Dragons less. He needed to start thinking about his future and not have his head in the clouds.

Toby hadn't expected his wish to come true. After all, it was just a wish inspired by an old fantasy story his sister had given him. The Goblin King and the mystical labyrinth weren't real, just fantasy.

The boy realized immediately that he was wrong.

Rain had hit hard against window of his bedroom. A moment later, the door to his room closed and light went off. Before the teenager had a chance to figure out what was happening, several things, creatures jumped and grabbed at him from the shadows. He tried to tear at them, but strong arms grabbed him, restraining him.

His room spun around him and soon he found himself forced on his knees before a throne. Toby finding that he had no choice, looked up to see a familiar blonde before him.

"Sire, he made a wish," one of the ceatures, a goblin addressed the king.

"If I lost, what would have happened? I assume you have transformed Toby into a goblin, correct?" Sarah asked Jareth as she peered out at the labyrinth from one of the windows in the castle. "And what do you want to happen if I stay this time and do not return to the Aboveground?"

Jareth had just dismissed the servant who had brought in the tray overflowing with an assortment of fruits and cheeses, the perfect companions to the wine that he was pouring from the decanter into two goblets. His goblet was decorated with a swirling pattern and his insignia that he wore almost all of the time around his neck. The other goblet, Sarah's one, had a pattern of curling leaves and vines to reflect her wild nature. She would have made a good Faerie with her temperament.

"The magic only takes hold if that was what he had wished but he would have remained here forever, a citizen of the Labyrinth free to live wherever he so wanted to after he was old enough." Jareth explained, placing the decanter back down on the table quietly. He picked up Sarah's goblet and brought it to her at the window, pressing it gently into her hands.

"You already know the answer to that question Sarah. "

Sarah listened to Jareth. He was always willing to provide her information about his world. When she had come to the labyrinth as a teenager, she had been so certain that she understood how things worked in the Underground. She had read plenty of fantasy stories by then, The Labyrinth, included. The reality was that she knew very little. Honestly, it was by some miracle or dumb luck that she had solved the labyrinth and defeated Jareth.

It was amazing how different things were now, especially as she looked back on the past with the eyes and knowledge of an adult.

"I didn't know that was how it worked. My book implies that it is a transformation without a choice," Sarah said. "Toby may not be a goblin, but I suppose that he has developed dragon like tendacies lately. He's collecting a hoard."

Toby's hoard was mostly books and comics that he liked, so not exactly riches.

She looked away from the window when she felt the goblet press into her hands. The goblet looked so much nicer then her mismatched collection of wine glasses. She wrapped her hands around the goblet.

It's only forever. Not long at all.

"I want to stay," she told him. She felt her heart pounding as she realized that decision was clear. "No, I will stay this time, if you'll have me, my King."

These were the small moments that Shmi knew she would cherish until her last breath. She loved and appreciated when Obi-Wan was successful in his endeavours. She loved when he was top of the class. She loved when he was kind to others. She loved when he was excited. She loved when he was compassionate. She loved when he would read with a seriousness in his expression as though he were contemplating the very laws of existence itself. More than all of that though, she loved story time.

Anakin was away at a sleepover with at the Organa home and although Obi-Wan had been invited, he had chosen to stay at home with her. Qui-Gon was away in Amsterdam attending a convention whose lecture he had been working on for weeks. Shmi didn't like the idea of being alone too long, fearing that some of the sadder moments of her past would creep up on her. Obi-Wan was such a sensitive, intuitive boy, and where Anakin was far more brash and thought he would make everything better by expanding his presence till it filled every room of the house, Obin-Wan was far calmer. He knew what his mother needed.

Shmi finished stirring the pot of hot chocolate and carefully tipped the contents into two mugs; one for her and one for her son. She had laid out the marshmallows on the kitchen table where her son sat reading the latest book he'd picked up from the mobile library collection after having ordered it 2 months before. Unsurprisingly, it was a book devoted to space exploration, detailing specifically the history of the space race.

"Cocoa time Obi-Wan." Shmi announced, her voice almost lyrical as she placed one mug in front of him and one beside him. She slipped into that empty seat next to him. With an indulgent smile, she tapped a finger on the top of the book's spine. "Time to put it down, just for now."

His father and brother were gone. While he had been invited to a sleepover at the Organas, he had turned down the offer. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate it, but Obi-Wan had promsied his father to help and take care of his mother while his father was away. That was one reason, but the boy also wanted to spend time with his mother, just the two of them. They didn't get a lot of one on one time since his little brother was always a handful.

Obi-Wan heard his mother and the book moved a little in his hands when she tapped on it. He finished reading a sentence before grabbing his bookmark from the table. The bookmark that was an artistic rendering of all the planets in the solar system, as well as the sun and moon.

Once he placed the bookmark in the book, he closed it and put it to the side.

"Mama, do you think that I could be an astronaut or an astronomer when I grow up?" the boy asked as he picked up his chocolate. While he was still young, he was already deciding that his future would somehow be tied to the stars and space, either being able to travel to them or study them.
