the dsmp as a stage play would be like- tommy looking tiny standing alone at center stage, but when wilbur is there his words and gestures and pacing takes up so much space. the blocking is always overlapping, especially when a lot of characters are in a scene, but techno always faces the audience, and he grins at us and smiles, holding his fingers to his lips. as wilbur’s monologues turn to soliloquies, and eventually everything he says is in some way begging the audience for help, tommy asks who he’s talking to. he has no answer. it’s tommy gasping for breath, littering the stage with his blood as he teeters around, wilbur rushing to his side, dream demanding mellohi while wilbur’s pulls the arrow from tommy’s chest. the stage lights go up, the stage lights go down, the microphone schlatt uses for speeches is too loud and full of feedback, tubbos shrieks from inside the box, niki and jack disappearing into the audience. an empty stage save for wilbur’s body surrounded by rubble.

You know at one point ages ago there was a post by someone salty about c!drunz reuniting, saying that c!Dream fans weren't going to "respect c!punz's character" and acting like the idea of c!Punz genuinely caring for and wanting to help c!Dream was unreasonable.

I feel like at some point, cc!Punz saw that post and his entire goal for the finale was to say "fuck you" to that person in particular while giving the c!Drunz fans exactly what we wanted.

Ancient cities fill me with a lot of questions.

Something built these cities, and they either designed or harnessed the sculk to help them. They weren't fearful of it. Not at first. Whoever built these places understood complex redstone mechanisms, and were experimenting with death. Echo shards exist, but no echo ore. No other source but old chests where they lay untouched. It gives me such a strong sense of wanting to reach into the past and ask questions.

Who were you? Why are you down here? I know you come from the surface, you must, because you build like surface dwellers. But why here? What were you looking for? What were you hiding from? What did you do? Why did you leave? Where did you go? Can I follow you? Should I?

But I think the thing that grabs my attention most of all is the Warden.

The title of Warden evokes the idea of someone in charge of management of an area. Of keeping things in. Despite what one might assume, the Warden actually fits this idea for the Sculk. Unlike other golems that are guarding particular areas, or that only kill specific mobs, the Warden kills anything and everything. Including players. Even if the players don't do anything to harm the Sculk.

But, fascinatingly, players are the only ones capable of furthering the growth of the Sculk. The Sculk feeds off death, but ONLY when mobs are killed by players or their allies. Kills from the Warden do not allow the Sculk to expand, unless the Warden kills a player with experience. The Sculk feeds off the player, feeds off the player's experience and kills. If the player never goes to the Deep Dark, then the Sculk can never grow. What better deterrent then a beast so dangerous it can kill a player in full netherite in two hits?

So, you want my theory about all of this?

The Warden isn't a protector to the Sculk. It's a containment measure. The only reason it's designed to keep you out is because your absence is the only way to keep the Sculk in.

Why do you think it doesn't drop anything of value on death?

It's because you weren't supposed to kill it, you were supposed to leave.

"Well, I just feel like I've always had it." - Dream shrugged, putting away his iron sword he just made.

"No, that's not what I meant." - Thomas shook his head, turning it to see his friend. - "I mean, like, what's the reason? Are you a king or something?"

"Oh." – Dream laughed softly. – "Definitely not. It's not even mine, probably. It's just... " – For some reason he looked into the open sky. – "It feels like a gift from an old friend. Someone important."

"But who?"

"I don't remember."

Sooooo, now that everyone presumably doesn’t have any memory of their previous lives on the smp, can we play with that a little? I’ll go first.

C!Dream is always wearing a crown. He’s not sure where it came from, just that it’s important. C!Tommy likes to joke that he’s royalty or something, but c!Dream tries not to entertain that idea past jokes. He may not remember why he wears the crown, but he knows that whatever the reason, it definitely was not because of any former royal status.

The crown doesn’t quite feel like his. He doesn’t know why, but it’s the truth. He’ll hold the crown in his hands sometimes, fingers grazing over the peaks and gems, and he’ll find himself filled with a sense of longing. Like someone is meant to be there, wearing that crown, but isn’t.

He doesn’t tell c!Tommy, but sometimes, when he’s feeling down or lonely, he’ll tell stories to the crown, talking to it as if it could hear him. And it helps, it really does. He sits there, eyes closed, hands cradling cool metal and smooth gemstones, and he feels safe, surrounded by a comforting presence. Like he’s sitting beside an old friend.

Sometimes, when the moment is just right, the wind will breeze by, and in its whispers, c!Dream thinks he can hear the echo of a familiar laugh. It makes him cry almost as much as it makes him smile.

Whoever the crown belonged to before, wherever they may be, he’s proud he gets to carry this part of them with him.

does it ever drive you crazy that c!dream built a prison with the idea of it being able to contain someone like c!techno and dream still did everything he could to stay on techno's good side.

if he wanted techno dead and out of the way, he had multiple chances to do just that but instead he made certain to help keep techno alive. if he wanted to have something of techno's he could use as leverage, all he had to do was keep carl as carl was literally in dream's possession.

he dropped whatever he had planned regarding c!tommy the moment he saw techno was involved. despite the fact, again, he could have easily let him die or could have kept carl as leverage.

it's wild to me that he had every chance to 'take care' of techno, including a giant prison that theoretically could hold him, but dream refused to take any of those routes and instead made sure he could say 'i'm like one of the only people who hasn't betrayed you' and it be the truth.

OKAY, this is all about characters I can't be bothered to put c! in front of every single name.

dream has the possibility of "proving" to quackity that the book is real and works when he was getting so fed up with trying to pry the information from his mind. When quackity threatens techno right in front of him, and Techno gives him Full Trust, trust that dream will revive him.

it has me thinking knowing that he and punz apparently killed and brought each other back, and Planned to do so for the rest of their lives, to be immortal forever.

Why does he not want techno to go through that? Is he afraid that limbo might turn him against him? or is it the other way around.

By that I mean does he see punz as an extension of himself to the point where, his suffering is his own. Punz can go through limbo, and come back, and Dream can withstand the condition of the prison.

Or did Punz give him complete devotion? did they convince dream they were going to go through the most awful feeling, if it meant being forever by dreams side, being immortal gods together...

it's a complete different trust he lays in techno, it's like he's still trying to get on technos good side, which brings me to "you came?!" but that's a whole other essay I can't write rn xjnxjxbxh
