Hurricane Dorian has completely devastated the Northern Bahamas islands.

My thoughts and prayers are with my fellow Bahamians in the Abacos and Grand Bahama. This storm has completely destroyed both islands leaving almost 62,000 people without fresh water and food. There are many casualities and people are still missing.

So yesterday my grandparents found a big box of old 78s that they’ve had in an attic for years, and wanted me to transfer them to CDs. Most were in pretty great shape, no cracks and few scratches. Lots of 1930s sweet/hot jazz, British big band & swing and a few Decca classical ones. This one had its label peeled/scratched off on the a side, on the reverse was a Parlophone march.

90% sure by playing it it’s unleashed some kind of 70 year old curse.

race compounds oppression, alienates people of color from proper medical care and even if we can see doctors theyre less likely to believe our symptoms or treat us with medication, lots of us have ptsd because of racism, state violence and generational trauma and get the cops called on us for having visible symptoms, people of color are forced to work literal back breaking jobs because lots of us dont/didny have the economic and social mobility to get a less physically draining/harmful work, were more likely to live in polluted area which have been documented causes like athsma, cancer, birth defects, infertility, seziures, and i can go on and on about how race affects disability and puts us at a higher risk for it

this really sucks because if we have someone who is suicidal in my office, we're required by law to call the police, i just wish there was another way, IDK If you've guys have watched Broken with Sean Bean, but it does a good job at portraying how the police system is against black people with mental disabilites. when I first bought my house, I announced my decision to paint my bedroom purple. I had wanted a purple bedroom for thirty damn years, you fucking bet I was gonna have one now. My friends decided, for some reason, that I meant what one of them referred to as “14 year old girl purple” (through what’s wrong with the colors a 14 year old girl chooses, I don’t know, even if they’re not what I want as an adult). They didn’t believe me until they saw the color on the actual wall, even thought they helped me pick out paints. My mother, meanwhile, decided to get worried that if I painted my bedroom a “dark purple”, it would be “depressing”. As if, with an entire house to live in, I would spend all my time in the bedroom, which I wanted to be dark because I would be sleeping in there. In the damn dark.

I had like one, maybe two friends who were all like FUCK YEAH YOU PAINT IT WHATEVER COLOR YOU WANT, PURPLE BEDROOMS ARE AWESOME.

But when they actualy saw the finished bedroom, every single one of them was like, “Oh yeah, that’s really pretty.” (Well, the ones who supported me from the beginning were more like WOOHOO.)

And the moral of the story is: Fuck ‘em, please yourself. Either they’ll come around, or you can safely ignore every question of taste they opine about for the rest of time.

This applies to other adulting activities, too. When I was a kid, I decided that I wanted to have a wedding cake made of doughnuts. When I got older, I figured that I would be “mature” about it and get a traditional cake, which the older adults approved of. You never feel as young as you are, because you’re always the oldest you’ve been. You can only look back and equate childhood with ignorance and silliness, because there were things you didn’t know then. But there are things you don’t know now, too, that someone older is looking down at you for.

I promised myself I would never forget that, growing up. I put it in a time capsule when I was nine because I wanted to be certain. And sometimes it slips away, and I catch myself scoffing at people younger than me, but you have to fight that. You have to hold on. You have to keep a little bit of your younger mind inside you, so you don’t forget.

I think that’s important.

Remember that you’ll always change, but know that the person you’ll become isn’t going to be any more real than the person you are, or the person you were. They’re still going to feel like You.

A lot of people already condemn and calling this teacher a bitch/monster on the comment/reblog, not knowing the whole story. It was actually the TEACHER who drew the beautiful art on the blackboard, and the teacher is a HE, he’s an accomplished artist who was trying to teach his students about the beauty of art and however changing it is. He will draw any arts by request from his students, the students will take some pictures, and then he erases it from the board, and make new ones. He’s not a monster. He’s actually trying to spark the students’ interest in art. Funny how a simple pic without context enrages people - and the people refusing to look beyond the story.
