Like I'm sorry but if you want to call yourself profic, you have to (YES YOU FUCKING HAVE TO!) get used to people still liking Harry Potter, Rurouni Kenshin, One Piece, Alfred's Playhouse, Walten Files, Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel, Five Nights at Freddy's, or any other thing made by a genuine piece of shit.

It's one thing to point out that people should avoid giving money to these creators. I agree! Don't do that! But as long as they're consciously avoiding that, it's not fucking immoral for them to not want to leave those fandoms behind entirely. THEY ARE JUST AS MUCH COVERED UNDER "PRO-FICTION" AS ANYTHING ELSE.

If you can't handle that, then get out of the profic community and do not use our label.

But it's extremely telling that none of you, NONE OF YOU, had anything to say about why FNAF is unacceptable to enjoy despite Scott Cawthon doing quite literally the same shit as Rowling. NONE OF YOU had anything to say about it being bad to like Rurouni Kenshin despite the author being charged with possession of CSEM. NONE OF YOU had anything to say about the creator of The Walten Files using his posterity and popularity to levy false abuse allegations against an innocent person. NONE OF YOU had anything to say about the inclusion of ALFRED'S FUCKING PLAYHOUSE on this list, despite Emily Youcis being an actual, self-proclaimed Nazi.

If one of these things is unacceptable to enjoy (even when ensuring no monetary gain on the part of the creator), then you need to nut up and admit that it applies to all of them. And yet the only one that got any kind of reactionary response was Harry Potter.

The severity of these issues is irrelevant; none of them are things you'd want to support the creators doing. Yet only one seems to matter to the "Well, I'm profiction, except for..." crowd.

So to the frustration of many of you I'm sure, I'm doubling down on the statement that anyone who takes issue with this post is not pro-fiction, no matter how staunchly they claim otherwise. The stupid behavior shown on this post by people co-opting a term that is not meant for them would never be accepted or tolerated in profic spaces. No matter how justified you think you might be in this case, you WILL get warned and/or banned from any space that isn't run by fancops.

Appeal to authority or what have you, yadda yadda, but that's more of a consolation to the rest of us than an argument. AO3 won't tolerate it, Aethy will treat you the same as any fancop and ban you outright, and no fan community on Dreamwidth is putting up with you, either.

i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience

i think ao3 should have a feature like an anonymous kudos but instead of kudos its "i jorked it to completion" and you can leave as many of these as you want and obviously authors would opt-in to this feature on a per-fic basis but like. i want the stats, you know.

If you have a fucked up sicknasty fanfic you've been thinking about sharing but are unsure, this post is your sign to run to AO3 and Just Do It: 1. Someone somewhere wants to read it. Even if it's only one person, that person matters

2. Your creativity matters and so does your ability to share it

3. Serial harassers in fandom spaces are beginning to express discomfort that sites like AO3 completely strip their ability to do anything about fic they don't like, sometimes going as far as leaving entire fandoms due to the influx of "problematic fiction without a chance for consequences to the author". Posting your fanworks to AO3 actively contributes to making harassers feel unsafe and powerless in fandom

4. Militant anti-fanfic content creators also cannot do anything about fic posted to AO3

5. You can post anonymously to AO3, with the ability to de-anonymize at any time

6. You can moderate comments before making them visible on your fic, restrict comments to logged-in users only, or turn off comments altogether, meaning you can post anonymously and completely turn off comments if you choose

I did not tell my parents that I was being groomed on the internet as a teenager explicitly because I was taught that my sexuality was something to hide. I was punished for looking at porn or even just masturbating. they took my door off the hinges because my stepfather caught me masturbating, he caught me by walking outside and looking through my window.
