I want to start an arc for a character, but I’m not sure what to do, or where to find any inspiration. what would you do if you were in this situation?

Hi! :D

Honestly, most of my own arcs just happened naturally while writing with others. I usually start with a character, give them some traits, and then let the story build on its own. For example, I once had a Zombie Dazai situation and wanted Mori to heal him. That led to building a whole research department on my Port Mafia blog, bringing in Mori's sister (was an OC from someone and also a doctor), and even buying a magical cure from Francis. I didn't plan it as an arc, but it turned into one because other people joined and it grew bigger over time.

If you're looking for inspiration, you don't need a big plot from the start. Sometimes one problem, mystery, or goal for your character is enough to get things rolling. Others will often jump in and help shape the story with you.

And if you need something like a kickstart: If you ever want to take part in one of the missions I have built for Yokohama, just let me know. I have already included an OC organization in one of them because it was fun. (Currently I am running some haiku puzzles)

But: Honestly, in my experience, the most fun arcs are usually the ones that happen naturally through interaction. :)

Uhm… hey. I guess I should properly introduce myself, right?

I'm Hiroshi Takeda (武田 弘志), 28, city admin by day… and honestly still figuring things out the rest of the time. I live in Yokohama, in a tiny flat that's way too close to the library (dangerous if you like midnight reading).

I'm not here in any official capacity though. This blog is just me, the guy behind the glasses. I might share thoughts, places I like, dumb haikus I write when I can't sleep, or stuff I overhear in cafés. I enjoy plants, books, and good tea. I'm also single and… probably too good at awkward silences.

Fun fact? I used to get called "old soul" as a kid. Now I just embrace it.

You made a blog for your character, but don't know how to interact?

Welcome again, traveler! You've made your sideblog. You've built your character. And now you're standing at the edge of the city, wondering:

"Okay but like… how do I ACTUALLY roleplay with people???"

Let me help you with that.

→ WRITE A STARTER POST

You just post in-character. For example:

So, other people can reblog your post, add their character's reaction and BOOM... The scene begins! :D

→ SEND A ROLEPLAY ASK

If you see someone you'd love to interact with, go to their inbox and send something like:

⚠️ Always include your character's blog name at the end, so the other person knows who you're playing and can respond properly.

⚠️ Tumblr only allows main blogs to send asks, so if you're using a sideblog (like most do), you'll need to send it anonymously.

⚠️ You can't send images anonymously, so if your scene idea needs a visual (like a letter, a map, etc.), send it from your main blog – but don't forget to include your RP blog name!

If your character is part of the Port Mafia, there's one extra step:

The mafia here has a hierarchy. Please message @join-the-pm and think about which department your character would fit in. It'll help others understand your role in the organization and make plotting way easier.

→ HOW DO RP CONVERSATIONS WORK?

Once a scene starts, you write/play by reblogging and replying to the other person's post. It becomes a beautiful chain of interactions like:

Each time, you add your reply under the last post, by clicking reblog.

⚠️If it's a group thread, always reblog from the most recent post, not the original! Multi-threading is fun, but it gets chaotic fast if people reply out of order.

⚠️Tip: Always double-check which blog you're posting from. It's easy to slip up when you have several blogs. Don't worry, we've all been there!

How to change the blog:

There are no strict rules. Some people write short & fast, others write paragraphs. Some love angst, others prefer fluff. As long as you're kind and respectful, you're doing it right. ASK if you are not sure!

So you want to join the chaos… but don't have a character yet?

Welcome, newcomer! Maybe you've just arrived in the city, maybe you've watched from afar for a while, unsure if you can or should join in.

Let me tell you something: YOU CAN! And I'm here to help you figure out who you are in this city!

And hey... between you and me? Sometimes even I have no idea who I really am. But that's okay. Let's change that together, alright? After all, getting to know your character is a bit like getting to know yourself. One step at a time, one stat point at a time.

Don't worry, whether you come from pen & paper roots (hello fellow fossils) or grew up with computer games: Creating your OC can be just as fun as playing them.

Here's a character sheet to get your ideas flowing:

• BASIC STATS

NAME: Full name, alias or code name. AGE: Date of birth or approximate age SPECIES: Is your OC a human, a vampire, an animal? GENDER: Optional, but helpful for interaction. AFFILIATION: ADA? Port Mafia?* Guild? Independent? Government? Undecided? OCCUPATION: What do they do all day? (Barista? Assassin? Librarian by day, vigilante by night?) LIVING SITUATION: Do they have a place in the city? Want to be added to the map?

*Joining the Port Mafia? Decide which department your OC belongs to! Visit @join-the-pm to explore the options.

• APPEARANCE

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Hair, eyes, posture, vibe, outfit (or just drop a pic* if that’s easier).

• PERSONALITY & TRAITS

DESCRIPTION: A few sentences on who they are. Are they loud, stoic, chaotic neutral? CORE TRAITS: Like, are they loyal, impulsive, cold, charming, awkward? STRENGTHS: Emotional intelligence? Combat skills? Money? Intimidation factor? WEAKNESSES: Bad at communication? Trust issues? Terrible cook? Always tired? GOALS: What do they want to achieve in their life?

• SPECIAL ABILITIES (Optional)

ABILITY NAME: Only if they have one; like BSD-style abilities or supernatural elements. EFFECT: What does the ability do? SIDE EFFECTS / COST: Weaknesses of the ability, if any (for example Akutagawa needs clothing to use Rashomon).

• OPTIONAL FUN ADD-ONS

VOICE HEADCANON: What kind of voice do they have? (Raspy? Gentle? Deep?) THEME SONG: Which song describes your character the best? QUOTE: For example: "I don't believe in fate. I believe in loaded guns and sharp timing." FUN FACT / QUIRK: For example: "has a pigeon friend", "collects expired coupons", "afraid of dolphins" RELATIONSHIP: Current relationships / connections (or open for plotting)

Getting Started in Yokohama: A Beginner’s Guide

Welcome, newcomer! Whether you're a detective, a criminal, or something in between: if you've made it to Yokohama, you're in the right place. ♥

This guide will help you set up your roleplay blog, connect with others, and become part of our living city!

Step 1: Create a Sideblog

Most people use sideblogs for their RP characters.

→ On the pc 🖥️:

click the Account item on the left menu. 

click "+ New" . 

→ On the mobile phone 📱:

tap the account icon and then tap your blog name.

tap "create a new blog" (iOS) or "create a new Tumblr" (android) at the bottom of the dropdown.

Give your character a name, blog title, and URL.

⚠️ Keep in mind: Sideblogs can't like posts or send asks as themselves. Only your main blog can. When sending an aks, you just tag your blog: @sideblog

Step 2: Set Up Your Blog

Show your character from the best side!

→ On the pc 🖥️:

click on your blog

click "Edit appearance"

→ On the mobile phone 📱:

tap your profile icon

open the palette icon 🎨 for Appearance Editor

Add then:

a profile picture (your character)

a header image or colour

a short description

Create a pinned post with:

a character intro

rules, muses, etc.

tagging info

interaction preferences

Mission: The Haiku Files

For every organization / everyone

One day, Mori receives a red envelope from a subordinate. Inside, a single haiku:

Yearning through the fog On rooftops I find silence Underneath the stars

At first, he doesn't take it too seriously. It seems like a bad joke and yet, something about it unsettles him. How could someone bypass security and leave it right outside his office door?

Naturally, rumours begin to spread. Could the word "fog" be a reference to Shibusawa? At least, that's what @thetruetism was wondering...

📌 Location hints will be scattered across the city. Video hints I will post and also link here!

There will be 8 Shorts, each containing a haiku. At first, solving the mystery may seem impossible, but the more haikus appear, the easier it will become to piece everything together. The solution will only reveal itself once you've seen the full set.

And remember: the journey is the point. More than just solving something, this is meant to spark conversations, speculation, and maybe a little chaos. ;)

I'll also be posting hints around the city, which might help a little.
