#illness --- overlaps with other stuff, but I tried to catch the more broad or nondescript ones in this category.

#general --- anything that involves talking about both illness and injury, or could be widely applied to a variety of scenarios.

#my writing --- stuff I've made. I don't have it grouped more specifically, for the most part. Like, I don't tag fic of mine with #fever or #cold or whatever, it's all just lumped under one writing tag.

I'm ngl this is some neuron activation from the previous post I just made but homesickness must've been soooo crazy on the Hail Mary. Imagine you're alone and stressed and feel like shit and you just constantly know that you'll never have anything comforting again. Nothing you ever cared about will ever be yours again. I'd feel actually devastated over the dumbest things

I don't know about you, but I feel like oftentimes when I really don't feel well, I start to miss kind of random things a lot. Character feeling just absolutely full-body terrible---and they just wish they were home, whatever that was to them. Missing someone that isn't in their life anymore so badly. Missing what their routine used to be like. Missing something small, or stupid: a food they used to eat when they didn't feel good. A drink they would have. Tearing up over missing something so small because of just how bad they feel.

I really never consider psychogenic fever enough. Someone being so stressed-out/overworked/run-down that they get a mild fever? Incredible concept to work with in just about any possible scenario.

the absolute devastating intimacy of a forehead rest. when you are both just so tired from existing in a world that demands you to be a rigid, functional individual, and you finally collapse into each other and just lean your forehead against theirs, or against their shoulder. it’s the physical equivalent of dropping your shields. it’s saying i am entirely heavy right now, and i am trusting you to bear a piece of that weight. and the most beautiful part is that the other person doesn’t even flinch. they just adjust their stance, tuck you a little closer, and absorb the impact. we were designed to divide the burden of being alive.

Quite like when part of a character's problem is entirely their own fault. (Or they at least believe it to be entirely their own fault). Shaky and out-of-it because they let themself stay up all night. Upset stomach because they've had inadvisable eating habits, or have had one too many cups of coffee. Sore and tired because they exerted themself way too hard, or for way too long. All things that are pretty manageable and normal on their own but add an extra layer of misery if something else comes along to pile on top of it.

as much as I love badass characters pushing through pain to fight, I also love when they hit a point where they just can't. something structural is wrong or broken, so they can't stand. their muscles are simply too weak and overworked to hold them up. their bloody hands slip off the handles of their weapons, they can't aim through their vertigo or tunneling vision, they shake from blood loss or exhaustion even if not from fear. they've just reached their limit, and no amount of willpower will change that!

Okay listen, I think pro-American posturing is generally pretty fucking stupid and #cope (hoo-rah, we're so tough and eat fried food, hoo-rah, football and corn-fed farm boys, hoo-rah, we beat up pickpockets and concealed carry) but after researching European carnival rides for this fic, I genuinely do think an American county fair would kill a European. Like really and truly I think your archetypal European is leaving the archetypal American county fair on a stretcher

while the worst cover band you've ever heard is blasting out their rendition of Friends in Low Places and you haven't had any water in 10 hours and you're getting hit in the face by the change that's flying out of your pockets

Can't decide which I prefer -- delirious whumpees who ramble about a new thing every ten seconds because their mind is wandering relentlessly, or delirious whumpees who become fixated on one subject that they insist is important (and very likely is Not)

Really like it when a character can feel something mild coming on and they counter it with something appropriately mild, only for it to get way worse. Mild headache? Ah yeah, pop one Advil. Slightly upset stomach? Sure, an antacid in their water. Slightly achy, maybe a little chilled? Surely a single Tylenol will do. By the time it gets worse it's bad, and whatever they initially did to prepare was not even close to enough.

Should I like, put more specific tags on my posts, or do people not really care about that at all? Like, would people prefer I sort posts of mine into categories of "fever," or "cold," or "injury," or whatever?

I sleep on "developing a fever DURING something important" too much. It's not a groundbreaking concept or anything I just tend to focus on The Character developing a fever before something, I think. The drama of pushing through, and all.

But y'know. Character feeling completely fine and normal all day, just nothing off whatsoever, and then they deteriorate so quickly in like an hour flat that people notice. Just being absolutely hit like a truck in the middle of the day when they are already in the process of doing something very important. Feeling compelled to just see that task through because they're already in it. They felt completely fine this morning. What gives?
