how it started I how it’s going

i spent my whole commute thinking about the way that as soon as eddie recovers from his initial surprise that buck came running into the hospital, buck wants to see the damage, and eddie switches directly into his Nobly Suffering schtick. evading eye contact. his little mm yeah as he acknowledges, yes. it’s going to be quite the shiner, that’s correct buck. he covers his black eye back up and is suddenly subtly playing up how injured he is now that buck here in a way he was NOT doing at all with athena and alex before he arrived??? eyes closed, faint grimace, he’s so tortured for a solid 2 second beat. eddie 100% wanted buck to fuss over him you can’t convince me otherwise. which makes it even funnier that, instead of any of that, buck’s like. good news. this is totally marketable. sex sells eddie! :) and eddie who literally wanted to play a lead role in your local hurt/comfort tag on ao3 is like. wait no. betrayed. :(

but literally eddie's reaction to buck’s firefighter auction performance is like, more proof that eddie sees buck as his Spouse. not consciously. yet. but the camera is cutting to him watching buck like he’s considering making a bid. he's looking huffy and calling buck SHAME-LESS. like he seems lowkey annoyed. that buck is showing this domestic side (that eddie already Knows and Loves btw. has for several years now btw! actually he's always the First to try buck’s baked goods if anyone even cares) and making a show of wanting to settle down. like, God buck’s so Shameless using these things to get a date! when EYE eddie diaz have loved these things about him from the very START. he's in my WILL. btw. we have a son. btw. he makes pancakes in my kitchen. btw

to recap. eddie's intense indignation at people getting into a bidding war over buck. eddie IMMEDIATELY calling buck when chris goes missing. buck maintaining his right to be angry at abigail for taking chris just as much as eddie. eddie immediately shutting down any mention of him and alex being a thing. buck rushing to the hospital for eddie. buck calling eddie sexy and eddie acting like buck just shot him by doing so. eddie paying maddie to make sure he doesn't have to go on a date with a woman. the shot lingering on eddie's face when buck goes on stage and talks about being a new man who's ready to settle down. which could mean nothing.
