if they want to do the funniest thing, if they really want to just be hilarious, they should have Eddie temporarily partnered up with another paramedic while Hen’s in space. And because Eddie is Eddie, it should work really well. Then in the midst of all these emergencies, Buck should be like going full feral again. And Ravi is just like, “dude, my guy, Buck. What is GOING ON?” And Buck will say “oh my god, thank GOD. I was starting to get worried that I had feelings for Hen, but obviously if I still feel this way, it’s not that.” And Ravi is like Thank God You Finally Get It. And he’s slipping out his phone to text Maddie a bunch of exclamation points, she’ll know what that means, when Buck just says, “umm…Ravi….I think I must be jealous that they’re paramedics. Maybe I want to be a paramedic?” and Ravi should try and walk right into the path of the falling sky or whatever.

The way the show repeatedly implicates how borderline inept Buck and Eddie must be at doing maintenance/busywork if not placed together while on the same shift is *chefs kiss*.

The, “Trauma bag?”-“Yep.”-“What was that?”-“Hm, check!”, exchange in 4x06? The disaster boys did not have to both do the stocktaking, but for sure it would have taken twice as long due to yappity-yapping across the station floor if one of them was, idk, doing laundry or sweeping the stairs.

The way Chimney interrupts them doing hose maintenance in 2x17, chiding “that’s not the most efficient way to do that!” before proceeding to show them that it is definitely, absolutely, no ifs-or-buts about it, possible to roll up a firehose sans your boybestie. (Also Eddie only contributing by loosely holding the unrolled part of the hose? Iconic.)

Oh, and my personal favourite, 8x09. Not only are they cleaning the glass wall of the locker room in tandem, a task clearly meant for one, they are also failing spectacularly by only washing the top half, meaning someone else will have to jump in later and finish the job. Useless4Useless have successfully turned a one man assignment into a three person project. I imagine this was only allowed to happen because the alternative would generate an amount of additional work to justify a full on multi-shift task-force.

The rest of 118 is so used to this dynamic, when it’s brought up they kinda just shrug and say “We know it seems inefficient, but trust, separating them just leads to more chores for the rest of us. Stick ‘em in a corner together and the chaos is contained.”

s9 starts with buck and eddie fighting with each other, snapping at each other all the time, dragging the entire 118 into their shit because they’re miserable since buck has moved out

maddie helps them make up and it gives eddie some thoughts™️ to do some thinking about like yknow how it’s not straight to want to kiss your best friend

and buck settles in his new apartment just fine, he thinks about dating again, just moving on with life, he’s not getting any younger, and eddie is pissed again and snapping at buck because… well

but then there’s a safe haven baby girl with big blue eyes dropped off at the station one day and buck being buck falls in love with her and wants to adopt her so bad, he wants to be a dad. her dad.

but uhm he’s a 34 year old single firefighter risking his life everyday living in an apartment the size of a shoebox because he has a terrible credit score and it dawns on him that no judge ever would give him his daughter. so he panics.

so eddie being eddie begs buck to move back in with him, to save money of course, and… and it might help the social worker to see that buck‘s got support but buck‘s like yeah some great support you keep biting my head off every three days

but somehow eddie convinces buck to move back in (because when has eddie ever delivered a normal apology to buck) and the social worker is very fond of this buckley diaz family unit and chris crushes his interview with the social worker because no way is he gonna ruin this for his buck he wants his baby sister okay

so now they’re living together, the four of them, and suddenly buck is up in the mornings, making breakfast while holding baby girl in his arms and singing softly to her and yeah he has no rhythm and eddie is a weak, weak man. he‘s melting. he’s dying. that’s the love of his life.
