(Even when I mess it up) There you are

I started to write this for @buddietinesweek Day 1 prompt: Secret Admirer, but it quickly turned into a Day 5: Valentine’s Day gone wrong story and I decided to just go with it.

Summary When Buck and Eddie eavesdrop on May and Hen’s conversation about love and how to deal when you have a crush on your best friend, things quickly get awkward between them. Eddie makes a few stupid choices that could either end up their friendship, or lead up to something else entirely.

Buck reaches the upstairs lounge and sees May sitting next to Hen on one of the couches. “Hey May, what are you doing here with us today?” Buck asks, smiling. The station always feels a little more welcoming when any of the family members from the team comes to visit, but May is amongst his favourites, though he’d never admit that.

“Bobby took Harry and me ice skating again,” she says smiling back. “We’re just waiting for mom to come pick us up before you guys start working.”

“Harry’s downstairs with Chim talking about crows, for some reason,” Hen adds with an amused look. “So we’re talking about girl stuff here.”

“Oh I wouldn’t want to interrupt then,” Buck grins, moving towards the kitchen to start preparing lunch and be ready when Bobby joins them.

He’s not really paying attention to their conversation at first, he really doesn’t mean to intrude but he’s only cutting carrots so his mind doesn’t need much focus for his hands to work, and at some point he starts listening. He hears the words Valentine’s Day and it seems like May is asking Hen for relationship advice. Maybe he could use some of Hen’s wisdom by proxy, since he’s too chicken shit to go ask her himself.

The Best Don’t Go As Planned

Written for Day 4 of @buddietinesweek. Also on AO3.

“Damn it,” Eddie grumbled as his hands hit the steering wheel impatiently.  He was stuck in late afternoon traffic on Valentine’s Day.  He had left the station at 4:30, in his suit, ring tucked away in his pocket.  He was going to run by the house to pick up his boys, and then head to the restaurant, all three of them.  He glanced at the clock that read “5:32 pm” in glaring red numbers.  He was supposed to be at the restaurant right now with his family, not sitting in traffic. 

Just then, Eddie’s cell phone rang.  He hit the phone button on his steering wheel and sighed.  “Hey babe,” he said, dejectedly.

“You okay?” Buck asked.  “Thought we’d all be there by now.”  

“I’m stuck in this stupid traffic.  It’s terrible.  We can’t be moving faster than 15 miles an hour.  I left the station an hour ago, and I could put the truck in park now and walk back there in 10 minutes.”

This fic was sort of supposed to fit the blind date prompt but since the blind date wasn’t buddie, I liked the idea of it fitting in with the Valentine’s Day goes wrong prompt instead. At the time when I was writing this I also only intended to write one Valentine’s Day fic and figured that posting on actual Valentine’s Day felt right. (I have now written fics to fic the budditines prompts for Saturday and Sunday so…) Anyway, enjoy.

Valentine’s Day was coming up. It had been coming up since the beginning of the year since apparently every store he stepped foot into went from Christmas things to Valentine’s Day things practically overnight. It was all really ridiculous. The last time that Buck celebrated Valentine’s Day was with Abby on what could probably be described as the worst date that he’d ever been on. He’d ended up at the hospital. Because that was how most things tended to end for Buck. 

Maddie was excited for this one, though. She and Chimney were doing really well. Buck was happy for the two of them. They both absolutely deserved each other in the best way possible and Buck was happy that they were excited for the holiday. 

Hen was planning something for Karen that she was excited about. Buck liked seeing Hen looking happier. After everything with the IVF not going well and then the incident with the ambulance, Buck was glad to see that they were doing a lot better.

Buddietines Day 5💕

This is Buck and Eddies first Valentine’s Day together. Eddie wanted it to be absolutely perfect. Sometimes things don’t for exactly how planned and sometimes it can be a complete disaster.

Eddie had made reservations at Bucks favorite Italian restaurant. They arrived dressed in their best suits.

“Reservation for Diaz.” Eddie grinned.

“I am so sorry sir, it’s 6:30 and your reservation was for 5:30. We don’t have a spot for you.” The hostess apologized.

Buck could see the rage building up in Eddie and grab his hand and squeezed it, which helped calm him down.

“It’s fine m’am don’t worry about it! It’s not your fault have a lovely evening.” Buck smiled.

“Lets go.” Buck whispered to Eddie.

Eddie nodded.

“I’m sorry I wanted this to be perfect and I ruined it.” Eddie sighed.

“This just wasn’t what are plans were meant to be.” Buck said.

They got in Eddies truck to find somewhere else to go, but sadly everywhere was all booked up and would have very long waiting times.

“I think I have an idea let’s go back to my place.” Buck said.

“Sounds good to me,but I’m already hungry and that’s just gonna make me even hungrier.” Eddie smirked.

“Well yes that’s part of the plan,but I was thinking we could order in.” Buck smiled.

“You’re so perfect. How did I get so lucky?” Eddie grinned before kissing Bucks cheek.

They arrived at Bucks place and Buck grabbed two pairs of sweats and two tshirts.

“Might as well be comfy!” Buck grinned handing a set to Eddie.

They were changed and Buck ordered some pizza and got out some beers for them.

They waited and waited and the pizza didn’t seem like it would ever show up. Finally it arrived.

After the pizza and beer they passed out on the couch cuddled up.

Eddie woke up first shortly followed by Buck.

“Sorry.” Eddie frowned.

“For what?” Buck smiled.

“Our Valentines wasn’t anything extra special.” Eddie sighed.

“I got to to spend it with the person I’m in love with, and that’s all I need.” Buck patted Eddies cheek.

“I love you.” Eddie smiled.

“Love you too!” Buck grinned.

Filled Prompt for Day 2 of Buddie’s Valentine’s Week! @buddietinesweek

“You are the worst”

“Babe! That might just be the least romantic thing you have ever said to me and its Valentine’s Day!”  Buck’s pout made the corner of his mouth move up slightly, not enough however to disappear the death stare he was giving to his boyfriend. He was really cute, he had to admit that, but the situation was getting out of control.

When they were told there was a cookies competition at Christopher’s school for Valentine’s Day, the three of them had been excited and already making plans, but that had lasted very little when the teacher told the, bright smile on her face, how Christopher always got super proud saying that his Buck was the best cooker ever.

After that, it was just a competition. It was just his luck that the other parent beside them at the competition seemed to think the exact same thing.

“You and Matt’s dad need to stop”

“But I didn’t do anything!”

“Saying ‘I bet I can lift you with one arm’ can be considered provocation”

“I’m right though!”

The fact that he had a point was not going to change the part where it wasn’t the place or the time. And seeing Matt’s wife scolding him made him think that he wasn’t the only one who noticed it.

“Quit it”

“Eddie, I have a reputation to maintain”

“Buck!” Another voice made Eddie close his eyes, already feeling his smile grew bigger because this was honestly so out of hand. Bobby appeared on his right side, game face on.

“Remember what we talked about in the decoration, keep it simple but clean”

Buck’s face went completely serious, nodding along the captain’s words. “Got it, Bobby”

“Stop encouraging him” How has Bobby even got free the same day they did? Eddie was about to ask that when his attention was brought to Christopher.

“Dad!” He followed the direction of his son’s eyes, confused because they were not on him, they were… On Buck. Oh. “The cookies!” There was no mistaking that the kid was talking to Buck directly, not Eddie and fuck, that made his heart way too big for his chest.

Seeing that his boyfriend didn’t move, or breath for the matter, Eddie pressed a reassuring hand on his back, trying to ground him. “Yeah dad, the cookies” It took another moment for Buck to nod and move over there, scooping Christopher in hug that made him laugh.

No one commented in the way Buck cleaned his eyes with the back of his hand.

A little sniff made Eddie turn around, seeing Bobby taking a picture with his phone “Oh Bobby, did you cry too when Buck call you dad for the first time?”

“Eddie, shut up”

Day 6 (15th of February) - Blind date @buddietinesweek

Serendipity had a date for me

Buck took a breath before marching in. The place was nice.

It was some fancy steakhouse that Buck had only been to once before with Maddie and Chimney. It was a little pricey but maddie said it was a first impression thing so this was it. Only the best foot forward so he came dressed up and ready for any possibility that he’d like them.

He figured his date was already there since his sister said he’d know them when he saw them and they’d introduce themselves.

Buck told the host he was there to meet someone then was waved in the direction of the bar portion with booths.

He walked over and froze when he saw Eddie. A smile light up both their faces.

“Hey.” Buck came over.

“Hi. So you’re my blind date? I didn’t expect- not that it’s not nice.” Eddie said as buck sat down across from him.

“I guess so. Umm. Wow. I didn’t- well I’d thought maybe you were into me but I couldn’t be sure if I was just imag-” buck laughed nervously.

“Relax. Yeah. You’re one of the guys I’m very much into. I didn’t- I guess I wasn’t as subtle as I thought when checking you out.” Eddie drank his water.

“You were checking me out too! When?” Buck couldn’t say it any louder or quickly.

“When am I not? You’re good on the eyes Buck. You know that. Having a personality as bright as yours just seals the deal.”

Eddie had to thank chimney. Maybe agreeing to this wasn’t such a bad idea and it wouldn’t be such a hard time opening up to someone. It was Buck after all.

They were into their beers and had just ordered. It wasn’t much different than when they hung out usually just without Christopher there and with both of them very much on the same page attraction wise.

Buck’s phone went off. It was maddie. He was going to ignore it. She just probably wanted to make sure the date was going alright.

“Go ahead and answer it. It could be important Buck.” Eddie motioned.

“Hi Mads. Thanks for setting us up on a blind date.” Buck said smiling at Eddie.

“Oh. So you already helped Nellie with her flat?” Maddie asked.

“What? Who’s Nellie?” Buck’s confused face got Eddie’s attention from his drink.

“Your date. She just called me saying she was late because of a flat. She said she was gonna try walking to get to you but I called to tell you to pick her up instead.”

Buck’s face got more confused and red as she continued.

“Are you okay Buck?” Eddie asked.

“So you didn’t, set me , and Eddie, up?” Buck got out like it hurt to say.

“You’re with Eddie? But you were going on your date tonight.” Maddie asked.

“I think there was a mistake. My actual date needs help. Can you come help me find her and so I can let her down easy.” Buck said trying to get across he still wanted to be with Eddie.

“Actual date? Wait. Chimney didn’t set us up?” Eddie asked looking suddenly embarrassed and concerned.

“I still want to date you. I like this. Us. But if she needs help because she was coming here it’s my responsibility to help her. It’s fine. I’ll go by myself and you can wait here.”

Buck left his card and got up.

“Maddie you still there. What direction was she coming from or did you get which street she’s on like what’s near her?” Buck was already out the door. He sensed Eddie behind him and was thankful.

“She’s near the intersection down the street towards the north.”

“Alright. We’re on our way.” Buck turned on his jeep as Eddie put on his seatbelt.

Eddie was calling Chimney as they drove away.

“Chim who did you set up with me on a blind date?” Eddie asked.

“Jodie. She’s my mechanic, you met her before. Why? Hey I just got a text from her. She’s helping someone change their flat.” Chimney said as Eddie turned to Buck.

“I think my date’s helping your date.” He said earning a “what?”

Sure enough when they turned at the intersection and went further down a car was jacked up with its rear being switched for the spare.

“You two okay? I’m Buck. Which of you is Maddie’s coworker Ellie?” He asked.

“Easy hot shot. I got her covered.” Jodie said as she did the last lug nut before lowering the jack.

“No it’s okay Jodie. I was supposed to meet him. I forgot to call Maddie again to explain and say I would be on my way soon.” Ellie said while thanking Jodie.

“About that. Umm. I might have to cancel our date. I kinda found someone else. Sorry.” Buck said as he looked to Eddie.

“Don’t worry. It’s no biggie. Hey Jodie you wanna go someplace?” Ellie smiled.

“Well if Eddie nabbed your date I think it’d only be fair.” Jodie joked as she looked to Eddie with a nod as she recognized him behind Buck.

“We’re glad you’re okay. Were you helping her all this time?” Eddie asked.

“No. I was late from work. Just happened to see her and had to help.”

“Well. If you’re okay then we’re gonna go. ” buck waved and moved back to his jeep. “We’ve gotta get your truck before we can go back to my place.” Buck said once they were in.

“This sounds bad but I’m glad she had car trouble and she was late. If they’re okay and it meant I got a chance with you.” Eddie said while at a red light.

Buck held out his hand for Eddie to hold which he took.

“It’s like serendipity or something. The universe finally took some pity on me. I’d be up for another date later if you want to” Buck said as he drove.

“Yeah. I’d like that a lot.”

“So do we gotta thank Mads and Chim still?” Buck joked.

“Probably. They set things in motion so, I guess so we can.”

Buddietines Day 4💕

“Eddie are you busy tomorrow night?”

“Nope. Did you wanna hang out? Chris will be with Abuela, but we can do something.”

“It’s Valentines Day Eve. which is Galentines day for women and their friends so we could have a Broentines day.” Buck said.

Eddie began laughing hysterically.

“Wait you watch parks and rec?” Eddie said in shock due to the fact Buck was usually clueless to all pop culture references.

“What’s that?” Buck asked.

“A tv show. That’s what galentines day is from.” Eddie said.

Buck shrugged. “ I saw it on Instagram.”

“Whatever, but do we really have to call it broentines day?” Eddie cringed.

“Fine. What do you want to call it?” Buck huffed.

“I don’t know.” Eddie bit his lip.

“Broentines Day it is.” Buck laughed.

“So what are we doing?” Eddie bit his lipe

“Dinner and a movie.”

“Sounds good to me.” Eddie nodded

“I’ll cook!” Buck smiled.

“Please make lasagna. I love your lasagna.” Eddie said with excitement.

“Lasagna it is!” Buck grinned.

The next day Eddie arrived at Bucks and all the lights were out the room was filled with candles.

“Um what’s with the candles?” Eddie asked.

“My stupid neighbor blew a fuse. The power should be back on in an hour or two.” Buck sighed.

“Is the lasagna done?” Eddie panicked.

“Chill ok. The food is done it was ready right before I lost power.” Buck smiled.

“Oh good.” Eddie laughed.

With the candles and low lighting it started feeling less like a bro thing and more like a date. A really romantic date.

After dinner they couldn’t use the tv so Buck got his laptop out for their movie. Since the screen was so small they were sitting a little closer than normal. Thighs and shoulders pressed together.

Eddie stretched, and then placed his arm around the back of the couch. Buck knew this move he’d used it quite a few times. Buck could feel Eddies eyes on him, and slowly turned to face him. Heart racing as he saw Eddie leaning closer and closer, lips almost touching until the power flicked on lighting up the room and Buck practically jumped off the couch.

Eddie got up and headed towards the door.

“I’m sorry I.” Buck paused midsentance when Eddie flipped the lights back off and returned next to him on the couch.

“Now where were we?” Eddie grinned leaning closer to Buck.

Buck leaned closer and closer finally their lips met. It started off soft, but quickly became rough and more passion filled Buck was literally in Eddies lap by the time they pulled away.

“I don’t think this is classified as Broentines behavior.” Buck laughed.

“Good that’s a dumb name anyway.” Eddie smiled resting his forehead on Bucks.

Set Up

The alarms were blaring through the fire station.  Everyone was headed towards the trucks when they heard a voice call out through the sirens.

“Buckley!  Diaz!” Bobby yelled.

Buck and Eddie stopped running and turned to face Bobby.  “Yeah, Cap?” they responded in unison.  

“You two stay here.  It’s not a major call.  Watch some TV.  Cook some lunch.  Do whatever, just stay here.”

Eddie and Buck looked at each other and then back to their captain.  

“You sure?” Buck asked.

Buddietines Day 3💕

Chris was being quiet. Maybe too quiet and Eddie could tell he had something on his mind.

“What’s wrong mijo?”

“If Denny has two moms does that mean some people have two dads?” Chris asked.

“Yep.” Eddie smiled.

“So like if you got married I’d have 2 parents.” Chris asked.

“Yes, but buddy I’d need to start dating someone first.” Eddie laughed.

“What about Buck?” Chris giggled.

“Um buddy Buck is my friend.” Eddie blushed.

“Isn’t that good?”

“Well yeah friendship is important when you date someone.”

“Then what’s the problem?” Chris asked.

Someone knocked at the door saving Eddie from trying to explain this. But it was Buck and Chris didn’t seem like he would drop this anytime soon.

“Hey buddy!” Buck grinned.

“Do you wanna be my other dad?”

“What?” Buck choked

“Well dad said some people have two dads so can’t you be be my other dad?”

Eddie was so embarrassed hoping Buck didn’t think that Eddie had prompted Chris to say this.

“Um.” Buck gulped. “Me and your dad are friends.”

“Friends.” Buck hated how it felt using this word although what was he supposed to say. He couldn’t say how he really felt. Friends just didn’t cover exactly the kind of relationship they share.

“Do you like my dad?” Chris asked.

“Yeah?” Buck said almost making it sound like a question.

“Dad do you like Buck?”

“Of course I do we’re friends.” Eddie laughed nervously.

“Ok then why don’t you date?” Chris crossed his arms.

“Buddy let’s just drop this and play video games.” Eddie said.

“Fine.” Chris rolled his eyes.

After Chris went to bed things were a little awkward.

“I’m sorry Buck.” Eddie sighed.

“No I’m sorry if I gave the wrong impression to Chris. You’re his father I probably overstepped.” Buck frowned.

“It’s probably me. I can’t help it even when you aren’t here I can’t seem to stop talking about you. If I’m being completely honest a date with you sounds kind of perfect.” Eddie blushed.

“Wait...you wanna go on a date with me?” Buck grinned.

“I mean yeah if you want to.” Eddie said.

“Yes I want to. I’ve wanted to for awhile now but I didn’t know how you felt. To be honest I didn’t even know if you liked guys.” Buck laughed.

“Wow really?I thought it was obvious especially after that little conversation in your kitchen.” Eddie grinned. “This is pathetic my 8 year old played matchmaker for us.” Eddie said erupting in laughter.

“Obviously we needed help. I don’t think I would of made the first move.” Buck laughed.

To Look After You

Eddie sighed as he sat on the bathroom floor next to his sick, crying son.  “Hey buddy.  You ready to try to head back to your bed?  I changed your sheets for you.”

This wasn’t how this day was supposed to go.  Eddie was supposed to get Christopher off to school and then go meet Buck for a Valentines lunch since they both had a shift the evening of Valentines Day.  It was supposed to be a romantic afternoon, just the two of them.  Carla was even going to pick Chris up from school so that Eddie and Buck could have more time, just the two of them.  Then Christopher yelled for him at 4 that morning.  The poor kid was crying in his bed, covered in vomit because he hadn’t been able to get up fast enough.  He had gotten Christopher in the shower and helped him rinse off, but just as soon as he was dressed in clean pajamas, Christopher leaned over the toilet and threw up once more.  Once he was sure that Christopher was okay on the bathroom floor, near the toilet just in case, Eddie ran to his son’s room to change the bedding.  Now here they were, sitting on the bathroom floor, waiting for Christopher’s answer.

Day 5 (14th of February) - Valentine’s day gone wrong @buddietinesweek

Coincidence for your thoughts

Eddie couldn’t believe he was doing this. Yeah he’d tried to dated one nice woman a few months ago but was this okay. He didn’t know how he felt entirely about this.

Tía Pepa: Eddito try it. You don’t have to sleep with them just mingle and take it from there.

Eddie rolled his eyes as he stood in front of the restaurant. He couldn’t believe she signed him up for this.

Tía Pepa: Don’t roll your eyes at me like you do sometimes chico.

He huffed as he walked in. He got seated at his station for the speed dating. He felt like this made him look desperate but Eddie didn’t want to judge the others here everyone had their own reasons. Maybe some of them were looking for meaningful connections and not just a lay on valentine’s.

The first round began. As he started talking to a sweet red head he heard a distinct laugh. Huh?

Eddie turned from where he was seated on the outside corner of a square seating arrangement with the guests facing outwards towards their moving dates.

“No one’s ever said that about my birthmark before. An angel kiss huh. That’s a new one.” Buck said with a smile to a tall brunette.

“Well that’s what we call them in babies where I work. Some fade but not always. My sister has one by her lip. So what kinda name is Buck?” She smiled and squinted.

“Well Meg it’s my nickname from my last name Buckley.” He laughed.

“Umm. Eddie was it? Look if you’d rather wait for her to come around then fine. It was nice meeting you.” Layla said as she checked out of the conversation and pulled out her phone.

“Sorry.” Yikes. Way to go Eddie.

He didn’t correct her that his attention was actually drawn to Buck and not the woman. It wouldn’t have made much of a difference he felt. Buck was here too?

The bell dinged. Eddie had one more person before the brunette was at his table.

“Hi. I’m Reina. What’s your sign?” His new date asked with dirty blond hair and a streak of blue.

“Umm. I don’t really know that. I think it’s scorpio or taurus.” Eddie answered with a shrug.

“Uh. No. I’m sorry. I’m not DTF or whatever. I’ve got a strict no sex on the first date policy now.” Buck chuckled then nervously looked down from his date.

“You’re wasting my time? If the sex is bad then why would I bother.” Another blond said throwing her hand up in annoyance. “Ring the bell already!”

Wow. Eddie didn’t know whether to be happy or sad buck was having a bad time with this one. He decided he could be both if she wasn’t willing to wait it was her loss. Buck was worth waiting for.

“Oh God. Help!” Meg the first girl paired with buck who was between them now shouted.

Both Eddie and Buck got up and moved together to help her date now.

The guy between them was clutching at his throat.

Eddie lowered him down on the ground with Bucks help who didn’t even question Eddie’s presence. They fell into their usual routine.

“Anaphylaxis?” Buck asked as he kept people a safe distance from them for breathing room.

“Yeah buck. Sir I’m gonna check your pocket. Do you have any kinda EpiPen?” Eddie was already checking both. Nothing.

“I’ve got one!” Reina pulled it out of her purse.

Eddie injected his thigh as Buck was already on the phone for an ambulance to be dispatched.

“Peanuts.” He rasped.

“Okay sir. An ambulance is coming. They’re gonna make sure you’re okay. We don’t know if you’ll need another dose before you get to the hospital.” Eddie looked at the table.

There were no peanuts out to trigger his allergy though.

“Meg?” Buck asked as if he’d read his mind.

“I ate some earlier. Fuck! I didn’t know.” She was crying. “I’m sorry”

“He’s gonna be alright. It’s not your fault. We’ve got him.” Eddie tried soothing her worry.

It was an easy but dangerous mistake. She was still a stranger to him after all and he didn’t know to tell her.

The paramedics from another station took the guy and nodded at the handoff as they strapped him to a gurney .

Blake, as they’d learned was the man’s name, had insisted on giving Meghan his business card with his cell written on the back.

The speed dating session had sorta broken up in all the chaos. Only a few were still willing to stay and went back to their seats.

Buck, Meg, and and Eddie among the ones to leave.

“Dude that was crazy. I feel bad for the guy. Reminds me of my bad valentine’s day experience. Choked on a breadstick. Abby managed to give me a tracheotomy, it didn’t scar too bad.” Buck was standing with Eddie outside.

“Wait. That was on valentine’s? I just remember it being bad. Holy shit Buck!” Eddie’s glad she saved him. It sounded horrifying and must have been worse to experience or remember.

“Yeah. I think it was just us both being nervous. Took it as a sign from like god trying to help me not have sex after our date. I was still Buck 1.0 back then.” Buck turned to his name being called.

“Are you two paramedic?” Meghan asked as she walked over.

“Uh, well my partner Eddie here is more so than me. We’re firefighters for the 118. It could have happened to anyone. He’ll probably be fine. Don’t beat yourself up.” Buck said.

“Oh wow. Maybe it’s fate you two saved him. Thanks again. I woulda been scarred for life and Blake would be dead.” With that she left to her SUV.

“Hey. Wanna grab a bite? Chris is with Pepa tonight since she wanted to make sure I had no excuse for not coming.”

“Dude I’m starving. When Maddie told me about this I thought it included dinner. I couldn’t even enjoy happy hour because of my blood thinners. It’s bogus.” Buck laughed making Eddie laugh too.

“Well if you’d read the letter at the door. So follow me back to mine or wanna go to yours?”

“Definitely yours. If you drink too much you won’t have to drive.” Buck patted Eddie’s arm before going to his jeep.

Eddie’s truck read out a voice command text he got from Buck. He’d order wings and rice that’d get there a little after them.

Once they were at Eddie’s they went inside.

“So. I didn’t know you were gonna be there, it’s good you felt to trying. Maddie had to threaten posting my karaoke routine if I didn’t agree to try it. My own sister blackmailing me, can you believe that?” Buck joked as he got the door paying.

“I know how you feel. It could’ve been worse. That could have happened to us or we might not have been there.” Eddie helped sort their order after Buck brought it to the table.

Buck could have one of his egg rolls since he always gave Eddie a few of his wings.

“Maybe Meg was right? Fate brought us together to help save that guy. And got us out of Amelia’s love is a battlefield warpath. She’d have gotten to you in a few rings of that dumb bell.” Buck poured some of the hot sauce Eddie liked and had gotten him into.

“Dtf?” Eddie joked.

“Oh man. You heard that? We’re be being that loud?” Buck cringed.

“No. Umm. I’m just good at picking you out of a crowd. Gotta be able to find my partner to have his back Buck.” Eddie said

He was avoiding saying how he’d been drifting to listening to Buck and his date thought he was interested in the woman with buck but she was wrong.

Buck drank from his glass before talking again.

“You ever seen Love Actually? Me and Mads watched it for the first time the other night. I think it’s running again tonight or we could look it up.” Buck waited for a replay.

“Only pieces of the beginning. We can look after we’re done.”

Watching a romcom sounded good. After they could see something else.

They both ended up passed out on the couch a little after the movie was over and they’d switched to an action movie with spies fighting over a girl dating both of them.

Neither had said much after the first movie was done and the revelation that the guy was coming home from overseas to return to his boyfriend or husband. They’d been starting to doze off.

They’d wake up after an hour to lay down properly as Eddie reminded Buck of his back.

It was a great pseudo date even if neither of them wanted to risk calling it what they felt.

Eddie couldn’t tell if it was the beer, him being rusty, or him feeling comfortable when Buck but he woke to him in the morning without being startled.

“So. I’m gonna start on breakfast if you want first shower.” Buck said from Eddie’s doorway as he turned to him knocking on it.

“You’re the best. Be our live in chef Buck.” Eddie half joked before yawning.

“Careful or I might take advantage of sleepy and hungry Eddie’s offer.” Buck teased with a wink.

“You say that like it’s a bad thing” Eddie grinned.

Was that too flirty? Uh.

“I’m sure we could work something out. Living here. Getting to see you guys more. Commuting to work. Sounds like it’d have its perks.” Buck shrugged and laughed. “Alright sleepy head. Get up. I’ve got pancakes and eggs to make.”

With that buck left to the kitchen.

Eddie thought about it. Buck’s place was nice but they had room here. He wouldn’t mind if Buck actually did take up his offer. Eddie would tell him again later, sans sleep in his voice.

For now he needed to get ready. Buck could go with him to pick up Christopher and drop him off at school. Chris would love that.

Eddie knew Christopher would love Buck moving and being around more too. It felt right.

He let the water wake him fully as he heard Buck whistling and singing while he cooked. Eddie wouldn’t mind waking up like this more often, that’s for sure. He hoped Buck would think about it.
