I love the episode Zero Larp Thirty (s7 e17) of bobs burgers.

Linda and Bob go to a larp (live action roleplay) for a show that took place in the 1800s (or early 1900s, I can't remember). Linda starts out with saying she wished she lives in those times and that that time period was when she was supposed to live.

She's assigned the role of a servant, and as the episode goes on realizes that life back then sucked unless you were rich.

I feel like this is something a lot of people don't really think about because we romanticize this time period so much. Most people weren't having fun, they were fighting to survive.

It's a really cool time to learn about, and I understand why people like to make stories that take place back then, but I wish more people thought about how much stuff sucked in the past.

(Especially to the ppl who talk about 'bring back *some time period that actually sucked for most ppl.*') (especially with the 'bring back the 50s and 60s back' ppl.)

(Im not talking about anyone who's into history or fashion of that time period btw)

I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.

I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.

hey so filming people without their consent is weird. you know that right? filming people you don't know and they aren't aware of what you're doing is creepy. posting strangers online is fucking weird. we're too comfortable with doing it now for shits and giggles, chasing some sort of viral hit instead of reckoning with the fact that you posted someone who did not consent to their body and face being publically used.

we're being pushed these Meta Glasses as if mass surveillance of strangers is fun and normal! it's weird!!! there are already reports that people are using these to film women without them knowing and sharing it to communities who get off on this shit. who else knows who people are filming. these glasses with cameras are not obvious and that is dangerous.

Okay but also this is legitimately dangerous. People hide from social media for very valid reasons. Domestic violence survivors, former trafficking victims, former cult members - all of these people rely on the ability to not be found again. Putting people's photos online absolutely endangers their lives. A cheap joke online is not worth the value of someone's life.

Also i think people do not need any special qualifying factors to deserve unrecorded public existence as a right

that little sign that says if you are entering this venue you may be recorded is key here. Also When i take videos in bars and performance venues i focus on the performer not the crowd when posting footage. There are thoughtful methods of recording in public that aren't getting every passer by to sign a release form.

If you are in the background of content that is one thing but i think the audacity of having to POINT YOUR PHONE/CAMERA and be visibly filming is missing here. Why are hidden cameras being technologically normalised?

Also of course there's not just the dubious uses on purpose that endanger people's privacy, plenty of people thoughtlessly wearing them are inadvertently exposing sensitive footage of themselves

Music/audio player: DIY mp3 player or audiobook player for cheap

Writing pad: DIY freewrite, could be either typing or maybe handwritten

Drawing pad: DIY drawing tablet

Some hacker shit: maybe you want something that fucks with the wifi or bluetooth, or maybe you wanna do something else. idc just don’t get caught.

Put that shit on you clothes: DIY wearable tech so you don’t have to carry your phone everywhere

Useless but cool: why would you do this? idk but it has lots of lights and screens

Put a fucking AI in there and talk to it: I would never do this but maybe you want Bakugo in your purse i’m not here to judge
