my shy gagobear
sometimes a bug lands in my drink and I say "bro is in my drink" which evolved into "there is a brother in my drink" but that feels vaguely assumptive so now I on occasion say "there is a sister in my drink" whenever a very confused fly decides to take a dip. you too can practice feminism in everyday life
How did that evolve into there is a brother in my drink
brother is a nicholasname for bro
you are so special to me dude
there's a LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER in my drink
Flies are:
Loud? ✅️ We all hear them coming
Incorrect? ✅️ For being in your drink
Buzzers? ✅️ They tend to do that.
Congrats, OP, there IS a Loud, Incorrect Buzzer- I mean, Brother- I mean, Sister. in your drink.
These two cicada sisters are Johanna and Rosemary

I love characters who are extremely hypercompetent and simultaneously massive losers
hornet thinks that by refusing ascension and living with mortal bugs she is refusing the divinity her father represented but she doesn't realize that he too shed his larger form to be closer to the ground
She just has to receive 10 more of these before she makes the connection

and while I’m here. who the hell decided to call it a “rabid” wolf spider. brother I am already scared. why is that thing barking and growling at me now.
as an arachnophobe trying to participate in bug positivity and education to decrease my fears and increase my appreciation of the natural world: the only thing worse about the large spider* I saw in my bathroom is the fact that it disappeared.
Is it between the shower curtain and liner? Is it in the shelf? Is it in a different room? I don’t know but I am. afraid. and I need to go to sleep. and I will sleep, but. man I just started changing my antidepressant, so I was already coping with feeling anxiety for the first time in a while, but this is ridiculous.
*I understand that the spider is also scared, and we both wish we hadn’t seen the other. It’s either been camping out in the potted plant that’s been in the bathroom all winter (possible but unlikely) or it got in from an open door and can’t get back out. And brother. I’m too scared to CNR**. I mean, I’m a big proponent of that one, but the combined arachnophobia and the spider’s absence make that Really Difficult.
**CNR is short for “Catch ‘N’ Release”, which is short for “Catch And Release”.
anyway. photo under the cut.
These are leaf cutter ants! They harvest leaves to take back to their nest. They don’t eat the leaves but instead feed it to a fungus they tend to and eat. These guys are farmers and the leaves are fertilizer. Such fascinating little creatures!
Today's wasp of the day is Ropalidia saussurei!

Most other wasps that have green on them are not a true green, and instead only appear green due to what is called "structural color"— the micro-make up and surface of the scales reflect light to make it appear that color as opposed to true pigment, which is a chemical mix that results in the color. This is why so many green wasps (and birds for that matter) have a metallic sheen to them, as the angle the light hits at will also effect the perceived color.
There are only a handful of wasp species with true green pigment, the majority of which can only be found in Madagascar.
The turaco is the only bird that has true green pigment. Bonus bird fact to go with your wasp facts, all apart of a balance diet
