Irish words are so pretty,,, like Siolla which means syllable but also a ray of sunlight??? Or Cailleach, the tree trunk that won’t rot away or a witch,,,or what about Ceap, the tree trunk or head of a family???? This language has layers. English could never

baclainn is the sweetest word. do bhaclainn = your arms, but only if you’re holding someone in them. the ‘your loved ones create your body’ of it all.

aiteall - the sunny time between two showers of rain

damhán alla - spider (literal translation: wild little stag!)

dathanna - colours

dorcha - dark

draíodóir - witch, enchantress

foirfe - perfect

ildaite - multicoloured

nóinín - daisy

ragaire - late night reveller

sceallóga - chips/fries

spéirbhean - beautiful woman

Today is the feast of St Bridget and the start of Imbolc ! Imbolc is derived from i mbolg (in the belly) because the seeds of spring were sown in the belly of Mother Nature !
