Aw yeah, guess who now has a functioning heartbeat? This bitch!
I went to Perth and they restarted my heart, and now I'm soaking up those sweet sweet normal sinus rhythms! Which means I can get back to writing the next Goose Run book!

I was reminded today of some of the toxic bullshit that someone I used to consider a friend pulled, and I can safely say I have never been happier to no longer have contact with that person.
But also I’m laughing REALLY hard, because you know one of the reasons she was complaining to other people about me?
WESTERN AUSTRALIA DIDN’T HAVE COVID DURING THE PANDEMIC.
Yes, this supposed friend bitched to someone that “bunny’s state is virus free and has been for months” and they were personally offended by that.
Anyway, a reminder that not everyone who says they’re your friend is your friend, and some people are just batshit crazy.
Hi friends, I need some help here. I know a lot of you are barely keeping your heads above water, financially, or are already drowning yourselves. But maybe some of you can help me.
Last year I broke a tooth. It's in the front and I really don't want to just get it pulled (which is all my insurance will pay for). But to get a crown and all the stuff that goes with it is a bigger expense than I can cover. Now usually I'd try to save up for it, but that broken tooth is now hurting me as infection sets in. I gotta get this squared away quickly.
I'm having trouble with bills already, plus paying for someone to keep my daughter when her regular respite worker is unable to but I still need to keep appointments for myself or my mother. (mom is 81 and has afib, kidney disease, and congestive heart failure. she's going to the doctor a lot)
Anyway, long story short,
I started a GoFundMe for the dental bills.
I also could use some money for the other stuff but that's not as urgent. My cashapp is finally set up: $beingagreenmother and there's still my ko-fi
even if you can't help, if you could reblog and share this around that would help too
UN-fun update. Or to quote Granny Weatherwax, I Aten't Dead.
Okay so normally I'm on here talking about a new release, or a fun project with Lisa, but today's update is slightly different.
There ARE new books—three of them—and I'm absolutely dropping links because I'm shameless like that —BUT
Real life has also cramped my style somewhat in the shape of the *tiniest* of heart failure episodes.
Okay fine, it wasn't exactly tiny. I have Atrial Fibrillation and about a third of my heart isn't working. I went to my doctor with shortness of breath and she took an ECG, sent me directly to hospital where I spent a week in intensive care and got me on some goods meds, and now I'm waiting for a procedure to restart my heart and hopefully kick it back into normal rhythm. I'm not sure when it will be, but hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
I'm feeling okay due to the good meds, and cardioversion has a pretty high success rate, it's just that I need to travel to Perth to have it done. So there's a chance I'll be taking a break from writing over Christmas while I recover from what they insist is a 'mild' shock...
Anyway. Have two Christmas novellas and a Goose Run book—Hey, I gotta pay for my hotel room in Perth somehow!

The Amazing Alpha Tau Fratmas Experience by Lisa Henry, Sarah Honey
Listen, in our defence, @thisdiscontentedwinter and I were left unsupervised with a little bit of time on our hands... and now there's a sneaky extra Alpha Tau book.
Merry Fratmas y'all!
It’s Christmas at Alpha Tau, but not everyone is full of joy and goodwill. Scout Talbot-Smith is even more uptight than usual, and it’s up to his boyfriend Trey to figure out what his problem is. And Trey’s going to need all the help he can get from his fraternity brothers—especially Marty—to turn Scout’s Christmas frown upside down.
Wait. Can Scout even smile?
Move over every schmaltzy Christmas movie ever, and make room for a Fratmas miracle!
The Amazing Alpha Tau Fratmas Experience is a lighthearted m/m novella containing all your favorite frat bros. It includes Christmas plans gone awry, hams on speed dial, someone finally admitting to having an Actual Emotion, and a holiday photoshoot for a dog. Or something.
To celebrate quitting my day job and writing full time, I spent the weekend at GayLitOz in Brisbane with @msridcully and @thisdiscontentedwinter selling and signing books, meeting readers and other authors, and trying to figure out how this is my life now.
It’s kind of awesome—and okay, it’s also a bit terrifying, but mainly? Awesome. 😉
Anyway, here are some pics of me currently living my best life. And you know the best part? Now I get to spend a week in Melbourne with Winter and JA Rock and Msridcully, before we do another signing at RARE in Melbourne. Literally living the dream, y’all.
They are part of the reason A03 is a thing now. Not the whole reason, but part of it.
The Great Purges of 2002 and 2012 are when ff.net got a wild hair up their ass about THINK OF THE CHILDREN and nuked any fic posted on there that was explicit. Thousands upon thousands of nc-17 smutfics were lost.
It’s what led to the creation of alternate hosting sites for smutty fic…AdultFanfiction was the one I went to…but thousands of fics would never be recovered.
Shit like the Great Purges and the Strikethrough of Livejournal eventually led to fans banding together to create A03, which I would have absolutely KILLED for when I was 15.
I love this because I will bet you that persefv has read that bit we are all so inundated with hyperbole and advertising that says that the consumer is somehow in charge of whatever product they are shilling that we all just assumed this was another sales tactic.
THE OTW WAS CREATED BY FANS SO WE’D HAVE AN ARCHIVE THAT WASN’T SUBJECT TO CORPORATE REVIEW.
Nonprofit, so that nobody could ever say, “this isn’t making enough money; it’s getting shut down.” (See: Geocities, Quizilla, Figment, G+.) With lawyers involved and a firm awareness of the legalities of fanfic, so nobody would decide “we’ve gotten a nasty letter from a megacorporation with lawyers, so we’re hiding because we can’t afford to face a lawsuit. (Jedi Hurtaholics, Trevizo’s Millennium site.) With teams, so that an argument between co-mods didn’t result in the destruction of a whole archive. (Gryffindor Tower, Detention.)
AO3 IS OUR SITE.
It is by fans, for fans. Fans do all the coding. All the legal paperwork. All the abuse/tos violation complaints. Fans make all the choices about policies. Fans decide how to run the fundraisers. Fans write the blog posts. All the volunteer staff are fans; all the people who train them are fans. Fans wrangle all the tags.
(And the other OTW projects, too. Fans manage the entries at Fanlore. Fans run the Open Doors project. Fans publish Transformative Works and Cultures.)
EVERYONE WORKING FOR THE OTW LOVES FANDOM. Wants it to survive. Wants it to be awesome for everyone.
(Knows that it can’t be awesome for everyone; some approaches to fandom just clash hard. But they strive to minimize those clashes as much as possible, because they love fandom.)
AO3 is not some company that decided, “we’ll make a site for fanfic and then…” I don’t know what people are thinking is the reason. Money? Data harvesting? Tax shelter? Amusement and pity?
Nope; AO3 was fans saying, “Livejournal sucks; we’re tired of this fucked-up ‘rebuild every three years’ garbage; WE NEED TO OWN THE DAMN SERVERS.”
That’s the “of our own” part of the name. OTW isn’t a “them” running the site “for us.” It’s “us” making places for “us” to share what we love with others of “us.”
Me and @thisdiscontentedwinter have written a new series set in small town Virginia, and we think it’s pretty good! So of course I’m here shamelessly promoting it!
Danny Hall is terminally single. That’s not surprising, given that he lives in the tiny township of Goose Run, Virginia, and the only other gay guys he knows live with him in his grandma’s house and are like brothers to him. It probably also doesn’t help his dating prospects that he works at a gas station.
When a series of petty disputes with his awful neighbor escalates into a legal matter, Danny calls in a lawyer. But when Miller Clarke turns up on his doorstep, Danny finds himself chasing more than just legal advice.
Miller Clarke is used to dealing with minor claims and oddball cases. But tree law? That’s a new one. He can’t exactly be mad though, not when his new client Danny is super cute and just Miller’s type. But Miller only intends to stay in the area for long enough to gain some experience before establishing a real career in the city. He doesn’t have time for a relationship, no matter how tempted he is. Miller’s got big plans, and Danny Hall and Goose Run don’t fit in with them.
You know what they say. The course of tree—oops, true love never did run smooth.
Welcome to Goose Run, a small town full of quirky characters, big personalities, and unexpected romances. Just don't ask about the goose.
Danny Hall Gets a Lawyer: Goose Run Book 1 by Lisa Henry, Sarah Honey
Yesterday was my last day at the day job, and from now on I'll be writing full time for a living! I never thought I'd end up where I got to make up stories about guys kissing for a living, but here we are, and frankly, I'm having An Emotion(TM) about it.
I don't claim that my books are great literature. But you know what they are? Fun, feelgood gay romances at a time when people are looking for reasons to smile, and that fact alone makes me proud.
I can't thank @thisdiscontentedwinter enough for bullying encouraging me to make the leap to original fiction, holding my hand through the process, and being the best writing partner anyone could ask for. She's stuck with me now.
And a GIANT thank you to those of you who followed me over from A03 and took a chance on my books. It means the world to me.
Anyway, if you want to help assuage my slight abject terror at having made the leap to full time author, feel free to read/buy my books. Some are available direct through winter's website:
Buy selected audiobooks direct, and save! If you're not sure how purchasing an audiobook directly works, check out the FAQ at the bottom of
And you can get the rest of them through Amazon or KU.
Follow Sarah Honey and explore their bibliography from Amazon's Sarah Honey Author Page.
Once again, thanks to everyone who helped me along the way!
I'm gonna go ahead and repeat: it is super, duper, extra scooper fucked up when you treat a character as if it were a living person while treating other human beings who are interacting with you like they are merely characters who can be written out of your personal story if you just find a remark mean enough.
in unrelated news, am I shamelessly spruiking for preorders for the new book that I wrote with @thisdiscontentedwinter?
Yes, yes I am, because I know you guys are the actual best when it comes to supporting our combined chaos.

Just wanted to stop by and say I love your fics so so much!!
I've been sick these last two weeks so having been reading heaps, and while going through your works on AO3 realised I remembered most of the plots because of how many times I've read them!! I read heaps on AO3 and find myself coming back to your stories again and again.
Thank you for all you do!
Awww, thank you so much! This was so lovely to come home to after a day in the retail trenches and I’m glad you enjoyed them!
So I’m about to do something that is either entirely delusional or the greatest thing ever—mostly I think it’s the second one. I hope so anyway.
I’m quitting my day job in four weeks to write full time. How wild is that? But I’ve done the math, and financially my writing rewards me better than my retail gig, so fuck it, I’m doing this. I have eight weeks of paid leave, and I’m taking it and then not going back.
I spent the weekend burying myself in all your work on AO3 and having the best best time. Just dropping you a line to say you’re still amazing and fabulous and I even fell in love with your always a girl!Stiles and that one marriage of convenience fic and So Well Suited still feels like a comfy happy romantic blanket even when I’m wailing at Stiles and his unnecessary angst (you know, the totally understandable kind I’d do the exact same thing over) and Chris and his calling Stiles “baby” and every iteration of werewolf Stiles and the Thighs ‘verse and the hotness of motorcycle alpha and anyway. Thanks for everything. It was a great weekend. ❤️❤️❤️
Awww, thank you! This was exactly the boost I needed today. I’m working on my next book with discontentedwinter ,and also preparing to give up my day job in six weeks and write full time, so it’s nice to hear I’m not delusional!
My niece was talking about the subset of Yowie fiction where they have outlandishly big hands, Apparently an unfeasibly large hand can hold two cocks at once.
I then realized she had said Yaoi.
Only in Australia does this make sense. Even then only a subset of people in Australia. Everyone else is just going to be really puzzled why I laughed.
DW: Not gonna lie, my brain went here first:
Then it went to the actual creatures... and I honestly don’t know which one is worse in a two-dicks-in-its-hand scenario????
Then I got to the rest of your ask and I was like, “Oh! Yaoi!”
Recently, I’ve had a few people ask me about cowriting, and how it works when you share the process of turning an idea into a book. And the obvious answer is that firstly, it’s different for everyone. I know that some authors take a character each and write chapters in alternate points of view, and I have done this in the past. It’s a great system! But the most enduring system (thanks, potential ADHD) for me, is the one that to most people seems the most chaotic.
There are no rules.
“Hey,” one of us will say. “I have an idea. Want to write it with me?”
And that’s how it starts.
I wrote the first scene of The Amazing Alpha Tau Boyfriend Project. Then, because I had a bunch of other projects on the go (thanks, potential ADHD) I put it aside and ignored it for months. Then I rediscovered it, and contacted Sarah and said, “Want to write the rest with me?”
And we dived in and did it.
We don’t have separate chapters or characters. Hell, we don’t even have separate paragraphs. With both Sarah and JA, sometimes we’re adding to the document at different times, and sometimes we’re both in there writing at the same time. Which sounds like chaos, and it probably is, but it works for us.
Can’t finish a sentence? You’ll try a few times, then suddenly your coauthor’s cursor is right there, and they’re saying it better than you could!
Have a visitor drop in unexpectedly? Take a break, then come back to find the story is two pages longer.
Don’t know what happens next? Don’t worry about it—your coauthor does!
That’s not to say we’re totally directionless. With both Sarah and JA, we might run a few ideas past one another, like “Okay, where does this chapter need to take us?” But it’s rarely more in-depth than that. We’re all pantsers—this system wouldn’t work otherwise!—but when it comes to cowriting, the secret, as well as I can work it out, is that we are all open to negotiation.
What if I wanted Character A to have a meet cute in a coffee shop? What if that was the way I’d pictured it from the start? And then what if my coauthor said, “You know what? I think this would work better if it was set in a mechanic’s garage.”
Um, excuse me, what? It was supposed to be a coffee shop!
But the trick with cowriting is to actually be open to the idea of the mechanic’s garage. Your cowriter has equal ownership of these characters and this story, and, now that you think about it, there’s no reason the scene wouldn’t work just as well, or even better, in a mechanic’s garage.
There are no hills worth dying on in cowriting, or at least none that I’ve discovered yet. And every day there’s negotiation. If I let them have the mechanic’s garage today, then tomorrow they’ll let me give the character the dog, or the particular job, or the tragic backstory I want them to have. You get the picture!
It goes without saying that your cowriter has to be the right person for you. It’s all about the vibe! I consider myself incredibly lucky that I gel so well with both JA and Sarah, because writing is fun, but it can also be incredibly frustrating at times, so you need to find the right person (or people!) to do it with.
You have to trust your cowriter and their ideas. You have to be open to taking the story in directions you hadn’t considered. And, most importantly, you have to enjoy both the process and the end result. And if you can manage all of those things with a cowriter (or two!) then you’ve stuck gold!
Happy reading and writing!

Seriously, cowriting with Winter is the most chaotically successful thing I've ever done! I tried it once or twice with other people and the vibe was off, but with winter? It's a piece of cake! Mmmmm....cake.....
