iâm back ; Ashley & Josh
Ashley jumped up when the door opened, and she sprinted towards Josh for a hug. She tugged him in closely, nuzzling into his neck. She chirped happily, then pulled back slightly to look at him again. He looked just as he had before handâ good, they hadnât done anything to him. Well, other than put him in the goofy hospital gown. She poked at it, smiling at him, trying to say, Looks fantastic, nerd.
She felt strange that she was happy. Not just in this new form, but at all. For the most part, things had been really tough latelyâ not just the events at the lodge, but then coming back and finding Josh resulting in getting attacked, not being human anymore, and eventually winding up in a hospital. But there was something in her, some primal, animal instinct, that made her happy whenever she was around Josh. She didnât understand it, but she was okay with it. Because it seemed like the same instinct was in him too.
Josh smiled and hugged Ashley close to himself as they were together again, letting out a sound that sounded somewhat like a giggle - Still, not a perfect human voice though. He figured it would take a lot of time to gain it back, but at least it could work⌠And he wouldnât be alone with it. He pouted a little and let out a tiny offended noise when Ashley poked around at his new clothes, stating that he hated them fucking a lot, even without words.Â
Somehow everything just felt right around Ash. It felt like no person could separate them again, like they were meant to be, like their fate was this, for Josh to suffer until she wouldnât be able to stay on her butt anymore and go back for him, so then they could go through an entire suffering of turning back into a human from something like a wendigo - But the good part in it was that they were together, even in this. Theyâd never be alone again, theyâd always have someone that would understand them and be there if it hurt, or if it was getting harder than anyone could have ever imagined.
Josh sighed softly, nuzzling their noses together before resting his forehead against Ashleyâs. Her closeness felt so right, like heâs been craving it forever and more. Like she was the only salvation for his poor aching heart.Â
Ashley felt her cheeks go red when Josh rested his forehead against hers. She wasnât sure if it would show, as her cheeks were already pretty red from the poking and prodding that had happened to her during her testing. But she knew she was blushing, and she knew why.Â
The primal feeling was in both of them.
She poked his nose with her own, then focused back in on his eyes. Despite the strangeness of this new form they were in, his eyes were gentle. Kind. His own.Â
Ashley felt relaxed around him. And being so close....it was beyond relaxing. She took a deep breath in and finally did the one thing sheâd been thinking about. She leaned forward slightly and-- past the awkward, uneven teeth-- pressed her lips against Joshâs for a gentle kiss.
She pulled back, blushing harder, and murmured something that didnât quite form a real word, as she couldnât. But in her mind, she said, I love you, Josh Washington. And I think you might love me too. For real.
iâm back ; Ashley & Josh
Ashley paced anxiously back and forth in the room, looking towards the door every now and again. She needed to see Josh again. When were they going to bring him to her? When Sam and Chris had brought them back home, after the awkward rides in the cable car and Samâs van, they brought them to the hospital. Of course, people there wanted to separate Ashley and Josh, no matter how much they screamed and threatened. But one of the nurses promised that, once they were done with both of their examinations, sheâd bring Josh to her again.
Growing tired of the awkward pacing, and trying to figure out whether walking on all fours or just two legs was easier and more comfortable, Ashley gave up and decided that sitting cross legged on the floor was the best thing to do. She stared at the door, long fingers tapping rapidly on the white tile, silently begging for them to bring Josh back to her. She needed to figure out where they stood, how he was.Â
Josh just hated the fact that they separated him from Ashley. He fought until the last second, to not let them take her away from him once again. He didnât want to be alone again. He was afraid to be alone. Heâs been alone for too long, why now too? A nurse promised them though, that as soon as they were done clearing their wounds and checking their physical health out they would get back together again, which made Josh slightly calm down and let them separate for that short amount of time - Which seemed like forever to him, actually. As they gave him painkillers, as they cleared and then stitched his wounds up, even taking care of the ones around his mouth, telling him to find a lady in town when they were done who would get them both human and okay again.
Josh felt ridiculous in that hospital gown thing they gave him - Since his clothes were ripped into pieces and were bloody every possible place they could be - So he had to be in those awful clothes until he would get his own from home. After which seemed like eternity finally he was walked to where Ashley was. He opened the door excitedly to spot her sitting on the floor nervously. He chirped in happiness, a smile on his lips as he reached his arms out towards her for a hug.

iâm back ; Ashley & Josh
Sam couldnât quite figure out how long Ashley and Josh had been down here, but however long it was, it was long enough for something new to develop. Maybe it had been bubbling under the surface, maybe it was something that had been going on without any of the others really noticing (which would surprise her, quite a few of their friends were really observant), or maybe the situation brought it to light. But whatever it was, despite the strange circumstances of their appearances, Sam could see a new connection between Ashley and Josh. She looked back to Chris, wanting to see his reaction to it, knowing that at least at one point heâd had feelings for the redhead.
Ashley relaxed a bit when Josh moved to hold her hand and watched for his reaction. He seemed to be calming down a bit. She stood up as best she could, gently tugging on his arm. Come on. We should go with them. Weâll figure this out together. she wanted to say. But she knew she couldnât, and she didnât want to try. She was still frightened by the sound of her own voice.Â
She reached up to adjust her beanie and bangs, like Josh had done earlier. But she quickly realized that wouldnât be as easy as it had been before, as her fingers were longer and pointier now. She tried to pull her hand away, but one of her fingers had gotten stuck in the beanie. Goddammit. she thought, trying to tug her finger out without ruining her favorite hat. Of course Iâd do something this dumb.
Chris watched how Ashley could so simply calm Josh down, like him or Sam could have never done if she wasnât here probably. For a moment he was thinking even if they did come back for Josh, it would have happened with them and they wouldnât have been able to bring Josh back themselves, most likely. But since Ashley had never hurt him with a single word or finger, it was easy for her. Only then he realized that they were holding hands, and his lips formed an âoâ. Maybe it was something more than just Josh trusting Ashley over them because of the amount of hurt he got? Maybe it was something that has been going on between them, or at least in Josh, and realized only now that Ashley did come for him and stay with him? Chris moved his eyes to Sam, then nodded. He knew what she was thinking of. Chris was over Ashley by now, and even if he wasnât, if her relationship with Josh would mean safety for them both again, and she would be happy with the other man, it would be fine with Chris. Josh always said he was too much of a pussy anyway.
Meanwhile, Josh let Ash tug on his hand, move him towards the others. She felt safer, calmer by her side. Like nothing and no one could hurt from now, like they could protect each other from everything that came their way. Then he noticed how she was struggling with her beanie and now he could have laughed honestly. Instead, he slowly slipped his hand out of Ashleyâs, to grab her hand with both of his gently and pull it out of her beanie without making any damage to it. He didnât know where did this such gentle and perfect usage of his new limbs came from, but it would be fine he thought. He then helped her adjust her hair and beanie as he did previously, his fingers thankfully not getting caught in the material. They could be just fine.
Ashley paced anxiously back and forth in the room, looking towards the door every now and again. She needed to see Josh again. When were they going to bring him to her? When Sam and Chris had brought them back home, after the awkward rides in the cable car and Samâs van, they brought them to the hospital. iâm back ; Ashley & Josh
Ashley jumped back a bit when Chris called to Josh. She spun around and realized Josh had been trying to leave. She darted towards him, clinging onto his arm, as awkward as it was. You canât leave me, she thought. Please, donât go. She tried to speak again, but it was just more odd screeching and whimpering. She stared at Josh, trying to catch his eye, trying to do something, anything to get him to realize that she needed him to stay. How could she communicate with him? She was desperate. She clawed at the dirtâ and left a mark. She didnât realize that the dirt was moveable here.Â
She kept one awkward hand on Joshâs arm, and moved the other to the ground, where she simply wrote out âJOSH STAY + ASHLEYâ.
Sam stood up, watching the strange interaction. Ashley had never clung this much to Josh before. Normally Chris would be clinging onto Josh. But the situation was different, and therefore the relationships grew and thinned as the tide turned. She noticed the writing on the ground and paused. This was their only way to communicate, she realized. They couldnât talk, could they? That was why Josh had been screeching and Ashley was only whimpering and crying.
âAshleyâs right, Josh. We want you to come too. We didnât know the police couldnât find you, we didnât know Ashley was coming here andâŚ.â Sam sighed, holding back tears. âWeâre really sorry, Josh. Really, really sorry.â
Chris noticed how he just made Ashley jump with his sudden crying out for Josh, however he had to do that to prevent him from leaving as soon as possible, before it was too late. He watched as Ashley clung to him - Probably not even letting go of him for whatever they could offer her. The way of how she thought about Josh changed a lot over these two weeks he thought - But it probably wasnât a bad thing. If it wasnât for Ash, his friend would be probably dead by now.
âYeah, Josh. Iâm so sorry man. I know I fucked up and all, but you gotta trust me that Iâm sorry for what Iâve done. I didnât mean to punch you, bro. I was stressed.â Chris admitted awkwardly, scratching the back of his head and pushing his glasses up. He wouldnât have blamed Josh if he never trust him again, but at least come with them to make everyone calm down, and Ash happy.
Josh gasped when suddenly he felt someone around his arm - Of course Ashley. He just started to realize again how much she wanted him to go back, to be kind of safe again and be okay in general. She didnât leave him when the wendigo approached, why would she let him leave now? He stared down at the dirt, watching what Ashley was writing in there and he felt his heart warm up a little. He slipped his arm out of Ashleyâs hold, but mostly just to be able to hold onto her hand with his own. He looked up to Sam and Chris talk then and considered. They seemed somewhat honest about what they were saying.. Still, Josh didnât know whether to trust them or not⌠That doesnât even mattered now. All he needed to do was make Ashley happy, and stay with her if she has done so much for him already, and wasnât about to give up anytime soon.
Sam couldnât quite figure out how long Ashley and Josh had been down here, but however long it was, it was long enough for something new to develop. Maybe it had been bubbling under the surface, maybe it was something that had been going on without any of the others really noticing (which would surprise her, quite a few of their friends were really observant), or maybe the situation brought it to light. iâm back ; Ashley & Josh
Sam stood her ground, not wanting to show any fear towards her friends. They may have changed, but she could see recognition in Joshâs eyes, so she knew that the two still had bits of themselves on the inside. She glanced over to Chris; he was outwardly more nervous than she was, but she knew they were feeling the same on the inside. This was going to be incredibly difficult. Whatever it was, Sam didnât quite know, but she knew she had to at least get them down the mountain. Maybe a doctor could help. MaybeâŚ.
âWe just want to take you home.â Sam finally said. âIâm sure your families would love to see you again. Know youâre safe.â
Ashley peeked out from Joshâs chest to look back at Sam and Chris. It was obvious that they were scared. So was Ashley, and from what she could guess, Josh was too, judging by the howl heâd let out a moment ago. She looked back at Josh, and started to understand how he was feeling. From what sheâd heard, his last interaction with Chris wasnât a great one. He mustâve been scared. But from what Ashley knew, Chris was scared too. Heâd been terrified, choosing between his own life and hers.
Trying to stay brave, the still whimpering Ashley crawled out from Joshâs arms, moving slowly on all fours (as that proved to be easiest, to her dismay) towards Sam, who was crouched down. She stood between Sam and Josh, locking here eyes with Samâs, then moving her gaze to stare at Chris.
Josh understood what Sam was saying and of course knew that the blonde girl was right. Their families would be more than relieved to see them - Okay, letâs just talk about his mother and no one else from the family, but Ash⌠She had a loving family, she had to get back to them at any costs. He didnât want to though. Bob would kick him out. Bob would reject him again, he in fact still hates him so much he could make Josh be a homeless person if it wasnât for Melinda. Josh didnât want to go back there - Especially not like this. He would horrify his mother, and she wouldnât want him anymore either. He let Ash crawl out of his arms and stand in between him and Sam, while Josh crawled back, still sitting on the ground and staring at their two blonde friends. Ashley seemed to trust them. Of course, since theyâve done nothing wrong against Ash. Everyone loved Ash, Chris did, fuck even Josh did. But who wanted to see him back? No one. They came for Ash in the first place, they didnât care about him the slightest bit. Josh finally stood up on his legs, watching Ashley and Sam, as they focused on each other, so did Chris. Maybe now he could leave without getting caught. He was stronger, he was faster, and now that he was a monster he belonged here. He started to take a few steps back against the wall, keeping his eyes on the others. He didnât want to leave. He HAD TO leave.
Chris mostly concentrated on Ashley and Sam, it was right. It wasnât the fact that he feared Ash would go insane and try to hurt any of them, more likely she looked scared and like her number one goal was to protect. Which could be the reason she came up here. Of course Chris was concerned about Josh. Still, he understood why the other man was afraid of him. Later on, he realized Josh was off his meds and didnât mean any of that horrible stuff to happen, it just did. And he hurt him like no best friend should do. By the time he finally moved his gaze to Josh from the two girls he was seemingly much more far away from them than he was previously. It was only a few steps, but Josh was definitely backing away. His eyes met the wendigoâs, and as Chris yelled âJosh!â at him, he froze into a stop.
Leave⌠Leave leave leave leave! Stop being frozen, just fucking run! You are faster than them! - Josh told himself repeatedly, even though what he was doing was stare at his once friend.
"Know so!" Chris smiles and pats her head.
âOh? Well I think you look likeâŚ.â Ashley paused, pouting and looking Chris up and down. âA huge nerd.â She laughed, poking the tall blonde on the nose.
iâm back ; Ashley & Josh
There were a million and one thoughts running through Samâs head when she finally saw both of them. Josh was alive. Ashley had found him. But theyâd been attacked? She wished she could ask questions and get some answers, but she wasnât quite sure if sheâd be able to do that with the two of them right now. She did the best thing she couldâ the only thing she could think ofâ and bent down to a crouching position, holding one hand out.Â
âItâs okay,â she said, her voice soft. âWeâre not going to hurt you.â
Ashley heard Samâs voice clearly, but still trembled in Joshâs arms. She felt like this was her fault. If she hadnât gone up to the mountain in the first place, this never wouldâve happened to either of them. She ruined Joshâs life, and probably her own, forever. Thank God he still cared about her, that he was still holding onto her and protecting her from their friendsâŚ. former friends, at this point, maybe. She nuzzled up against him, not wanting to let go.
When Josh saw Sam and Chris everything came to his mind about them. Sam had told him how much Hannah was suffering down there, how he couldnât save her and what he couldnât save her from. Josh felt horrible again. Chris, however⌠Chris helped Mike tie him up, Chris punched him multiple times, Chris yelled horrible things at him and never met him again ever since. He didnât even put any effort into trying to find him, he didnât come with Mike, or before, or even just with Ashley back to the mountain. He gave up on Josh just as easily as he could hurt him. Josh leaned back from the touch. He didnât want any touches. He kept on holding Ashley close, if he could he would have scurried away and screeched at them. Even if Sam said they wonât hurt them Josh couldnât quite believe. He thought they had something going on with Chris. He thought he wouldnât hurt him ever. He did.
Chris saw the pain in Joshâs eyes, the fear in Ashleyâs. She seemed like she blamed herself for it all, like she thought she was the reason of everything and everyone here now. He moved his gaze between his two friends for a few moments, before he took a few steps closer and spoke up.
âAsh, Josh, please calm down. Weâre not here to hurt you, we want to help, both of you. Youâre going to be fine again.â Chris told them, reaching his hand out towards them, but at that exact second Chris moved Josh moved back with Ash in his arms, letting out the loudest screech he ever made, making Chris freeze and look at Sam with it. This was worse than they thought it would be.
Sam stood her ground, not wanting to show any fear towards her friends. They may have changed, but she could see recognition in Joshâs eyes, so she knew that the two still had bits of themselves on the inside.
