Hhihihi!!
I know that this is super random but I wanted to let you know... OML YOUR ART IS SO EDIBLE AJAHSBSHSSJSSHS I WANNA SHOVE IT DOWN MY THROAT..... Hahahaha *laughs nervously* sooo I also wanted to ask about your processes in arting, especially the lighting and lineart? Idk man I just love how U art..
HI I DIDNT SEE THIS UNTIL RIGHT NOW!!
usually I just wing everything.. BUT because Im so nice and loving and kind i’ll give you all a very nice step by step process with really bad explanations!
this is in no way a tutorial, just my process!! I’d love to see others take inspiration but remember that everyones art is beautiful in its own authentic way and no one should ever feel shame over whats “better” or “worse” since such concepts are merely that, concepts! not fact! I believe art is equal and beautiful, no matter hiw silly it may be.
ANYWAYS THE PROCESDRR!2!3!4!
1. SKETCHING
usually, my sketching process is pretty clean! I naturally kind of just.. put my pen to the paper and let my hand flow freely without any cleaning up or anything.. sometimes (a majority of the time) I’m too lazy to really do line art so I skip the step entirely and just move on to coloring and shading BUT for this sake I will provide an example where I do do line art!! thus, we will continue with using this sketch as an example
2. LINEART
there are two steps to this..
I usually like using colored lines in my art to make it pop more, saturation is very fun!
After lining my art I fill it with solid color and THEN I go over the brighter lines with a darker shade of the solid colors in the places I see fit
Usually the mentioned lines ate the innards of each individual piece of the character, the colored lines separate things like the hair, face, clothes, etc.
2. SHADING / LIGHTING
for shading, I like to use solid colors with the skin and everything be blended
the colors I use are usually the same colors I use during the line art, only blended out to look more fuzzy.
With certain articles of clothing, I usually make zig-zags and then blend them out to make wrinkles! Turning our attention from our example for a second— heres a video of my doing it with the chuuya art I made!
ok. moving on to the lighting part.
for this piece I didn’t have a definitive light source really so I didn’t worry about that,, I more or like just clasped my hands and prayed it looked alright
I used a light shade of the skin tone, keeping it solid against the skin once again and blending it into the hair.
AFTER that, I went a head and added some desaturation to the hair as well to make things look cooler idk lol.. a lot of these decisions I make are kind of just “yea! that looks cool!”
Since you’re probably curious about the lighting I do for my last few pieces.. I didn’t REALLY do it for this piece so I’ll add a little subsection just for you..
2.5. LIGHTING! (part two!)
After doing what I just did basically… for bigger pieces I have a tendency to switch how I get things done frequently ^^’
I can’t exactly show everything due to photo limitations BUT basically like to out line my art with white or yellow and use color dodge at like ~30% and then duplicate and change it to Add at ~50% with Gaussian Blur
heres my nikolai art for example ^^
3. FILTERS
Now that you understand the shading and rendering… you must understand what brings my art together is this really funny yellow color that I have
BASICALLY I use this specific yellow and use Color burn at 30% to give it a warm tint!! Technically number 2.5 could also count as step 4 but we are going to ignore that.
for this piece I used Luminosity, Saturation, and Color Burn all at different opacities!!
I don’t typically stick to a filter or a color for my filters (despite whats shown)
my process is very finicky and changes frequently seeing as I see art as a means of love and life. I don’t wish to contain myself to my passion because of ethic or because of how good it looks, I only wish to hold it gently and allow it to become one with my being and soul. Art is my means of life, not with monetary or status but in the way where without I can no longer consider myself human.
tldr; I love art
