I’m not brand new, and I know they never go unambiguously gay in original anime, but the complete lack of any red-faced “we’re not like THAT” from Kazuki or Rei, or any judgment from the day care worker, was really nice to see. Whatever their relationship is, at least the show hasn’t been hostile to the common interpretation people have so far.
