Uhhh sorry for the very VERY long hiatus. I wish I could say I have been working diligently on writing the Hagalaz au fic, but...nope. Between jobs, new hyperfixations, and trying to balance out medications, my boy Hagal REALLY fell to the back burner.
But! I am determined to get back to it! I'm a little bummed at losing a good amount of art I did (had my laptop stolen,,,) but redoing it will be good motivation to get back in the swing of things!!

I feel like movie 3 Snotlout is overhated
Most people don't like the fact that he was "flirting" with Valka but I personally didn't interpret it as flirting at all. He's shown throughout the franchise to have a tendency of trying to impress people he looks up to or respects (we've seen this with Thor Bonecrusher, his father, Hiccup, Stoick on occasion, and Dagur) so I think it'd be perfectly in character for him to try and impress Valka because he just thinks she's cool. This also lines up with the deleted scene where Valka saves him after he gets his cape caught on a cage and the scene where she defeats Spitelout in arm wrestling. Nothing he said was inherently flirtatious either he even said "I'm like the son she always wanted"
And then there's the "who died and made you chief" (which I personally found hilarious 💀) he didn't have any malicious intent or anything he just said it without thinking like a dumbass and you could argue that him being THAT dumb is out of character but yeah
His semi one-sided rivalry with Eret was one of my favorite things in the movie
He's dripped out in this movie too so that's a reason to love him

I've started writing the first chapter of 'Of Rage and Ruin' (the main story for the Hagalaz AU) but I also just started a new job today so it may be slow-going! New art I'm in the process of working on will also be delayed, but I'll get it out eventually!

I'm halfway through plotting the entire story, should I get started on writing and posting it now, or should I wait until I have the whole thing plotted out?
So I have now in fact started writing the prologue, and this is already somehow angstier than i originally thought the prologue was gonna be. This bodes well. I apologize in advance.

Anyways Hagalaz AU Snotlout! Snotlout was hit pretty hard by Hiccups "death." It didn't take long for him to realize that his animosity towards his cousin largely stemmed from the things his father would say about the late heir, and that he would never get a chance to make up for his years of bullying.
His grief certainly wasn't helped by the fact Spitelout was clearly happy about the tragedy, always boasting behind closed doors about how, now that Hiccup was out of the way, Snotlout could finally become chief like he was always meant to. Snotlout had begun to have nightmares in which he would be walking towards Stoicks throne, only for a half-eaten Hiccup to claw his way out of the wood.
It took a while, but Snotlout finally admitted to Stoick that he didn't want to be the heir, that the thought makes him sick. That night was the first time Snotlout let himself cry over his cousins fate, and the next day Stoick asked Astrid to become the heir to the throne. Snotlout became Astrids devoted right-hand man, vowing to follow her lead to the edge of the world.
Hagalaz AU Fishlegs! After Hiccups assumed death, Fishlegs dropped out of dragon training. The incident made him realize that he would never be able to kill a dragon. He had only ever been interested in training to learn more about dragons. Not long after, he became Gothi's apprentice, learning everything he could about various medicines and other means of healing. Despite his pacifist nature, Astrid and the others don't have to push too hard to convince him to help them hunt down Hagal and the Night Fury.

the only thing I absolutely hate about the httyd movies is that every off screen woman is strong built, fat and muscular viking women, but every woman that is part of the main characters is skinny... & I see why Valka has to be thin (wouldn't make much sense for Hiccup to be a twig if both his parents were jacked) and Ruffnut and Tuffnut are twins. But Astrid?!
Both of Astrid's parents have been shown as broad shouldered warriors, but we couldn't possibly make the main characters love interest fat! Dear God no.
So they'd rather tell us that these
two Hoffersons (a renowned warrior family, so it's not like Astrid just dieted. The Hoffersons were literally known to go absolutely fucking feral on the battlefield) had THIS DAUGHTER?!
SHE'S NOT EVEN MUSCULAR
Buffstrid is the only Astrid
I'm just thinking abt like. Eret shamelessly flirting with Hiccup, and Hiccup totally goading him on simply for the fact that he knows the minute Astrid notices she will get so incredibly jealous and possessive. And Hiccup will never be sorry for it because it always results in Astrid marching over, planting herself between the two, and shooting a smirk at Eret everytime she gets a little handsy.
Astrid is so caught up in claiming her territory she doesn't even realize Hiccup has her wrapped around his finger

We have Buffstrid/Smallcup and a female Hookfang and a living Stoick (as well as realistic relationship rebuilding for Hiccup and his father) and happy endings for all and no dragons leave their people.
