Summary:
Emma took on the Darkness for Regina.
Regina is determined to save her.
But when the Darkness becomes too much, Regina finds a way to remind Emma that she is not alone.

My first art piece dropped. I really love this one. It feels like they are in their own little bubble just focused on each other while the world melts away…

This story is written and gifted to ErrolsFeather as part of the FTH 2026 event. It is inspired by the prompt/idea they shared with me:
“What if Emma wasn't home when Henry came to find her and he couldn't go back home due to lack of money, but somehow managed to occupy himself in the area trying to find out from people coming and leaving the building day after day. Meanwhile, Regina would have to leave Storybrooke to try and find him with or without help.”
This led my brain down an interesting rabbit hole where a different city popped up and this cross-over was born.
ErrolsFeather and I share a love of Disney including Oliver & Co. This idea inspired a blend with Oliver & Co, pre-Oliver. The backstory for Fagin and his pups. Who knew Henry was so influential!?

Because I have been obsessed with this post that goes something like "they have resigned themselves to the reality that nothing will ever happen between them" - this is my reply:
It feels like they’ve been here forever. At the tipping point. In the precise moment of zero gravity at the climax of projectile motion. The split second of stasis between rising and falling.
It feels like they’ve been here forever, because they have. They’ve perfected the art of delaying the decision, are masters at weighing what stands to gain against what could be lost. They’ve learned to thrive in the shadow of potential.
To dare or not to dare. The age-old question.
They’ve made peace with asking it forever.
They’ve successfully convinced themselves they don’t crave to know the answer.
I really struggled to keep to 100 words with this one, because I became invested immediately (established relationship will do that to me), but I was so strong and only wrote the most important bits. I hope you enjoy:
There’s a crash, followed by clatter, rounded off by the clinking of an armful of glass bottles being lowered to the kitchen island’s marble top before Emma’s voice calls out, completely unnecessary:
“I’m back!”
I can hear that, Regina thinks, but she cannot stop a smile from stealing onto her face. Somehow, she quite likes how Emma fills the house with sounds. Makes it feel lived in. The clonk of her shoes as she drops them, the patter of her socked feet, and finally, the subdued squeak of the study door – then Emma peeks around the corner.
@cinnonym I could physically hear this while reading! It so fits with Emma and Regina! A poem would have been fun but I loved the cacophony of sounds from a savior returning home! Perhaps not nearly as much as Regina!
Confession - I may have been nervously wondering if my word choice was too “[fill in blank]” but was so excited to have my inner critic proven wrong and find you inspired to write something so fun and so them! Thank you!

A Light in the Darkness - “The Dark One’s an Idiot” Fan Art
Fandom Trumps Hate (FTH) 2026 art inspired by dreadfulhint’s fanfiction: “The Dark One is an Idiot”.

“The Dark One is an Idiot” by dreadfulhint is a dark and decadent tale. It weaves a path through the relationship of Emma and Regina all while pulling you along with them. It feels similar to the experience of enjoying sinfully dark chocolate truffles paired with an earthy dry red drunk on a furry blanket in front of a fireplace- if you throw in a pair of handcuffs and a very high libido.
This story is very NSFW, in all the best ways, with themes of alpha/omega and a very thoughtful and rich storyline. The emotional emptiness of Emma as the Dark Swan trying to fill the hole in her heart is the dark chocolate truffle at the start of the story. The self defeatist tendencies of Regina as she battles between martyrdom and her desperate selfish desire for true love are the dry red.
The fire’s warmth is Henry’s brilliant and pragmatic optimism and belief in his mothers. The flames Emma’s family, specifically her father, wanting to protect her and burning through their own emotions. The random annoying sparks come from both Hook and Hood, sparking randomly and trying to set fire to the furry carpet.
Then there’s the darkness throwing an alpha/omega spell at our lovely ladies in an attempt to execute the ultimate con, using the bonding mark to its advantage, only to have the tables turned at the very end. The handcuffs are found in both this chess match and the actual magical cuff on Regina’s wrist.

About this art:
The Dark One has implemented the ultimate ruse, binding Regina and Emma together via an alpha/omega mating mark. Taking the form of the Dark Swan, the darkness seeks to claim the woman it wanted all along...
Regina sits, rotting in prison, tormented not only by a Dark Swan, but by her own inner demons and self destructive tendencies. Will she hold out until her claimed mate arrives or will her resolve crumble under the manipulations of the Dark Swan?
Emma, claimed and marked, rushes into the Sheriff’s station. She is a beacon of light in the darkness. Can she prove to both herself and Regina that true love is not only possible for them both but that it may also be their salvation?

This one was a challenge. Often Emma and Regina area hard enough and one misbehaves. This time I had three of them! lol. I really love how it came out. I drew each of them first and then added in the bars. The placement is purposeful to not detract from the imagery.
The collaboration with dreadfulhint was amazing and helped shape this art. The juxtaposition of the dark and light is purposeful. The rays coming from Emma are her light energy calling Regina back from the darkness.
I really love the details. The computer and the blinds. I love Regina’s boots and hands. Their hair. Their clothes. The bricks. The bars. I am really happy with how it all turned out.
I now believe Belle has a little pet goldfish she calls Rumplefishskins, with whom she engages in little experiments like this one…
The fish has a little treasure chest in its aquarium. Belle tries to find mini tank-safe replicas from Rumple’s collection to add to the little fish’s treasures. It’s like a little version of Ariel’s grotto…
This was a big year for FTH -- our tenth auction, and a big year in one other important way, too.
This year, we've got two big numbers to announce.
This year, thousands (yes, thousands!) of us showed up to share our time, talents and goodwill with one another and raise some money for our most vulnerable neighbors and the organizations that support them. Together, we supported the fights for trans rights, for immigrant rights, and for the rights of the disabled; we helped fund local journalism and local clean-energy advocacy; we helped feed the hungry, in Gaza and in our own neighborhoods around the world; and so much more.

We knew there was no way we'd quite match last year's annual total -- everybody was motivated the recent election, and the damage of the new presidential admin was still in its early ramp-up. Still, we were hoping that enough folks would show up for FTH 2026 that we could raise a combined ~$70K, and push us to a major ten-year fundraising milestone.
As you can see, we blew way, way past that this year.

It will enable you to keep an eye on the good work you’ve helped support, and to find out quickly when these orgs need some extra help, financial or otherwise.
And if you’re looking out at the world and feeling the itch to do more, here are some possibilities:
Follow @fthaction, the meatspace activism wing of FTH. We relaunched FTHA last year with some reading lists, an individualized activism bingo card, a couple of AMAs with some talented organizers and activists on our dedicated FTHA discord server, and some stories from folks on tumblr, talking about how they themselves got more politically active. We're still figuring out the best and most useful things we can do this with project, but we'd love your thoughts and we hope you'll join us for the ride, on tumblr or on our discord server (linked above) or both.
Organize your own auction! We’ve put together a detailed playbook that contains as much information and as many resources as we can provide for getting an auction off the ground, including detailed guides. Almost everything in the playbook is fully public; there are a few forms that are access-locked because google has stupid ideas about sharing forms, but we’re happy to give you access to those, too: just drop us an email.
As usual, we the mods are pretty wiped out and will need to take some time away from our screens to recuperate. But also as usual, it's completely worth the effort. We're so deeply inspired by what we've accomplished together, and by all of y'all who keep showing up, year after year, to be lights for one another in dark times. We'll see you again next year.
