Yāalllll I havenāt been on Tumblr in YEARS (I think itās been about 6yrs). Iāve missed this place so much! <3Ā
Donāt ever kiss Cary Grant. He tickles! During many of poignant love scenes in An Affair To Remember I had a terrible time keeping a straight face. Cary was supposed to hold me tenderly but each time he put his strong arms around me, he would give me a little tickle under the ribs. This would start me giggling like a school girl, but Cary kept it up until I was almost exhausted. We were the despair of the director and the cameraman.
Each time Iād screw up my face and take a deep breath because that would prevent me from laughing. Somehow we managed to get through all but the final love scene. Director Leo McCarey said, āNow in this one, Deborah, I want you to show all the tenderness you feel for this man. Okay,ā he said to the crew, āroll āemā. I held my breath, but I could feel Cary put his arms around me tighter and then, in pure mischief, he started to slide his hand toward my ribs. Very slowly. I knew the tickle was coming. But when! It was a torture! But I held on so hard, that the tears came to my eyes. Finally, the director said, āCut!ā then he turned to me and said, āDeborah, that was wonderful.ā
But I was so exasperated with my leading man that I didnāt realize I had just been paid a compliment. Instead, in a high shrill voice I said: āFor heavens sakes, Cary, will you tickle me and get it over with?ā

Day Seventeen Mini
Aaaaannnndddd⦠this is exactly the kind of day I really need the mini-writes for. Ā The days where I canāt seem to put together any ideas (even though I have like twenty half-baked drabbles and even fics in my head at any one time). Ā But I committed to doing a mini-write (basically, I get to check off my list if I write 50 words. Ā I mean, come on, who canāt write 50 words a day?), so I sat down and looked through my prompt list, then, when nothing inspired, I stared at the blank word doc for the dayās mini. Ā At that point I decided I would start from where I was - a character staring at a blank page. Ā Who might do that? Ā I immediately thought of Edith. Ā And from there, it just flowed.
See? Ā The minis work!
Edith stared at the blank page, tapping her pencil idly upon it. Ā She rested her elbow on the desk in front of her ā in her beautifully fitted out office sitting room in her new home ā and held her chin in her hand.
Her mind seemed as blank as the page.
With a sigh, she lifted her eyes to the window overlooking one of the gardens. Ā That view had solidified her decision to take the room for her own use ā personal and professional. Ā That view usually inspired her. Ā Yet she felt disappointingly uninspired today.
Furthermore, Edith wasnāt simply uninspired, she was preoccupied as well. Ā She and Bertie had been married for several months now, and she thoughtā¦. Ā But she wasnāt ready to say anything. Ā It was too early really to tell, for a doctor even to tell. Ā So she kept silent ā and waited.
After several moments gazing out the window, she heard Bertie knock on the door while he opened it, his face wreathed in a smile. Ā āAm I interrupting, Edie?ā he asked softly, his voice shaking her from her brown study.
Heād taken to calling her this nickname since their honeymoon, and, despite the fact that had anyone else called her this she would have been furious, sheād decided she liked the pet name. Ā So, swiveling in her chair, Edith smiled in return. Ā āNo, darling. Ā Not at all. Ā I canāt seem to shake the cobwebs from my head.ā Ā Holding her hand out to him, she said, āPerhaps you and I should go for a walk. Ā If you arenāt otherwise engaged. Ā The fresh air might help.ā
āActually, I came to ask if you wanted to go into London a day early. Ā I have a surprise for you there. Ā We can discuss it on our walk.ā Ā Bertie took her hand and pulled her up, then wrapped his arms around her, kissing her sweetly.
When theyād broken the kiss, arms still around one another, Edith looked at him, a faint blush rising to her cheeks. Ā āWell, I wasnāt going to say anything, but I canāt keep it to myself. Ā I think I have a surprise for you too.ā Ā Biting her bottom lip, she tilted her head slightly, face bright.
āYou think you have a surprise for me?ā he asked. Ā āWhat couldā¦?ā Ā As he put the pieces together in his head, Edith started to nod, grinning. Ā āTruly, Edie?ā Ā His eyes shone.
āItās still early, Bertie, so perhaps I shouldnāt have said anything. Ā But if in another week or two, things are the same, then, I will go to a doctor to confirm it.ā
Bertie simply shook his head, a silly, wide smile on his face. Ā He appeared speechless.
Embracing him tighter to her, Edith asked, āAre you happy?ā
He kissed her again, then gazed at her, nodding. Ā āYes, my love. Ā Happier than I ever knew I could be. Ā And you?ā
Edith sighed, a long, deep sigh of purest joy and contentment. Ā āI am awash in a bliss I never knew existed, Bertie. Ā Yes,ā she said, tears pricking her eyes, āI am happy.ā
I really love this!! #DowntonAbbey #EdithCrawley #Bliss #Love #Happiness <3Ā
Excitedly packing for a London trip to hear Julian Fellowes, with Rebecca Front and Tom Hollander *squee*, talk about Doctor Thorne - but even better, not only going with the Downton loving crush shhhhhh but also with one of the Downton lovelies, whichāll be the first time weāve met after 4 years of friendship!! Then watching a filming of Pointless in the morning.
THE EXCITEMENT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO UNREAL!!!!!! <3 <3 <3Ā
Love!!! ā¤ļø
šššš
Whatās in store this Christmas at Downton Abbey?
Robert's so funny!Ā
Iām holding out hope that Violet will swoop in and lay down the law with Mertonās sons like āLISTEN UP HOTDOGS, THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED TO HARASS ISOBEL FOR BEING A COMMONER IS MEāĀ
And lay off Tom.
ššš I love this.
It was the most heart wreching thing, to see Edith walk away like that, but both Tom and Sybil knew that she was doing the right thing. Like them, Edith wasnāt made for the life at Downton. It had never made her happy and, through the years, it had transformed her into a shadow of the girl she used to be.
"Iāll write to you, when I feel ready to do so" said Edith, glancing one last time to her little sister and her brother-in-law, before leaving the library.
ā¤ļø
Run away, kids. RUN AWAY!
How great would it be if Tom and Sybbie ran off with Edith and Marigold and they set up an awesomely unconventional household in London or somewhere?
PLOT TWIST: their relationship remains completely platonic
THIS
This TOTALLY works! Check it out in The Sadder but Wiser GirlĀ by the classicist.
Iām starting to think thereās a fanfiction for every potential plot twist.
Agree totally.
So Violet wasn't afraid of Isobel having a higher position than her, she was afraid to lose her friend!
ā¤ļø Feeeeeeels
How posh are the Downton Abbey cast?
Iāve always thought Edith flourished when she was away from Downton Abbey. And the only reason she stayed was because that was the only way they could keep her on the show. Hopefully Julian Fellowes will show that his imagination can go well beyond the Crawleys and Downton Abbey. With Edith thereās plenty of opportunity to tell a wide variety of stories. Hopefully Julian Fellowes has the talent to explore the wealth of stories that can only be told through Edith and Marigold. Itās time to reward Laura Carmichael for her loyalty and for doing a heck of a good job with such a thankless role. Hopefully Julian Fellowes will prove how appreciative he is of Laura Carmichael and how much he says he loves Lady Edithās courage. Show me on the screen Julian Fellowes not in interviews or books! If Lady Edith is āMother Courageā as Julian Fellowes says she is, then thatās what viewers should think first when thinking of Edith instead of Poor Edith. Now that Lady Edith is far away from Downton Abbey. Put your show where your mouth is Julian Fellowes. Show us Lady Edith Mother Courage now! Prove it on the screen instead of interviews. Because youāre still JFell because everyone says Poor Edith, instead of āMother Courage!ā

like crying over character development
Just watched the new episode. It took 6 episodes for some movement! Thatās 5 Sundays or hours I canāt get back. Iām glad thereās some movement. Tomās still doesnāt have any real plot this S5. The Edith/Marigold story line wasnāt executed as was probably envisioned by Julian Fellowes, Gareth Neame and Laura Carmichael. Itās hard to care when people are already tired of 5 Sundays of the same thing. You guys basically made the audience not give a fuck! From watching that ITV video about Lady Edithās happiness and Marigold that Gareth Neame said it would all pay off and it was a wonderful story. Sorry Gareth, I donāt quite see the payoff yet and thereās nothing wonderful about tossing a child from home to home. And then dragging the audience along when Michael, the childās father, was dead all along. And then have Edithās family be so fucking insensitive when they were with kid gloves and absolute focus of the first part of S4 with Lady Mary when Matthew died. Edith was quite sensitive on those stairs and throughout all of S4 when it came to Maryās grief and Matthewās death. Iām glad that Edith is gone from Downton Abbey. That place has never been any good for her. The Crawleys certainly havenāt been good for her or even thought of what Edith wants. Thereās a part of me that wishes Laura Carmichael would be free from this thankless role of Lady Edith. Bravo Laura Carmichael for doing the very best with what you were given. Itās unfortunate that in my honest opinion the Edith/Marigold story was not executed if the desired intention was a payoff and a wonderful story. I doubt anyone watching would consider it a wonderful story and while Edith and Marigold are together, whereās the payoff? And Allen Leech, sorry! I donāt see anything āamazingā about Lady Edithās story this series. Yes, there was movement. But thereās nothing wonderful or amazing about the execution of the story.
