summer after high school when we first met, we’d make out in your mustang to radiohead, and on my eighteenth birthday we got matching tattoos.
a young man is found in the woods by a group of boy scouts. he quickly gets taken to the hospital, but nobody in town seems to know who this person is. except the doctor assigned to him. everyone in the building thinks he’s fallen in love with a coma patient, since he tends to play music on his speakers everytime he visits the room, and brings a new bouquet of flowers each day. when the patient wakes up, he punches the doctor on the face. he’s completely recovered and doesn’t need medical assistance, but he’s got the same tattoo as the doctor’s on his wrist.

bill had dated dipper back in high school. dipper was barely a freshman when they started dating, and they kept up with it until bill’s senior prom night, when he disappeared without trace. his family wanted him to study medicine in some prestigious college, away from his lover, and he didn’t have the heart to tell him. in hopes of seeing dipper one more time after graduating, he travels back to california, but he’s informed by his sister that the boy is not there, and doesn’t want to know anything about the jerk who broke his heart.
lovesick, bill moves to a small town in oregon where he finds a stable job. the trees remind him so much of dipper, and it makes him not want to leave. he hasn’t spoken to his family since his first day of college, and that won’t change. they took the one he loved the most away from him.
until he sees the boy’s name on his patient clipboard.
