Have an amazing year and thank you to everyone for making this zine a success ✨
We're dropping an interest check for a new aoex fanzine! This one is a little different to previous zines by mods/organizers @brightorangetea and @tboesart / @thebeingofeverything have done (@byakkozine and @aoexcuizine) in that it will be ongoing/yearly, free, digital, and *open for everyone to join!
*With the caveat that participants must be at least 13+ years of age, as that is the age Discord requires to have a profile, and our primary communication will be through that!
As this is going to be an annual zine that re-occurs every year, we wanted to see what fans/participants would be interested in choosing as a theme! Therefore, while we've included a few ideas in the interest check form, those who fill it out will have the opportunity to put their ideas for the theme of the zine down!
For more info, check out the zine Carrd.
We're looking forward to seeing everyone's enthusiasm for AOEX!
For those who participated or enjoyed the 2022 ByakkoZine fanzine, we're bringing our next zine to the AOEX fandom for 2024!

Big thanks to @thebeingofeverything for organizing the zine and asking me to be the graphics mod! I ended up spending a lot more time on the project than I thought since I had nothing better to do as a graduating college student XD
If you bought the digital or physical zine, I was the one who laid everything out! We had so much awesome work to put in, we even had to increase our page limit a couple times, but I think it was worth it.
Merch: Shura and Tiger!Rin sticker // Mini Animal Standees
Work in Progress Shots
I had several copies of my working file just in case my excessive use of layers would make something go wrong. Luckily, I think my CSP only crashed once ^w^
From the beginning I knew I wanted to do something fun with Rin's flames while also incorporating the main cast. I had THE WORST art block ever with so many different attempts until I doodled the thumbnail here and then my brain finally went "Okay do that one."
Thank You Banknote for our Red Envelopes
I also had a special illustration commissioned from my pal @/buenos.adidas as guest artist for our thank you notes that came with the physical bundles. Keep it in your wallet for good luck! (Here's her etsy where she usually has other fake money as stickers for sale)
We're hoping to host another zine again in the near future, so keep an eye out for that! (Near future as in next year or the year after :,D)

New fic uploaded! My contribution to the 2022 aoex fanzine @byakkozine
It was amazing to get to contribute to the zine with this fic. I've had this fairytale I used in mind for years now and it worked perfectly with the theme :D One day I'll do a sequel ;D
By the time he finishes his mission the snow has piled up, spiraling down from the sky in light, clumped flurries. True Cross Academy is silent at this hour, and its countless windows harbor a warm, golden sheen.
His breath fogs as he stops in the street for a moment.
It’s only been a couple of days since they returned, yet those few weeks they spent in the Arctic feel so far away now. He misses that closeness lately.
The lights in their dorm are still on. Yukio shuffles inside, scuffing snow off his boots when he sees a familiar assortment of shoes at the entrance.
“Hey, you’re back!” Rin beams, rushing down the stairs. “Come on, we’ve been waiting for you. We’re having a last-minute hotpot study party.”
Yukio lifts an eyebrow in amusement. “Shouldn’t you party after passing?”
“Yeah?” Rin laughs, elbowing him in the ribs as he opens the door. “We’ll just party after too.”
Shima and Suguro are running through a set of flashcards while Kamiki and Miwa have huddled around the kotatsu to set up the hotpot stove.
“Welcome back,” Suguro greets. “Was it cold outside?”
“Just a little,” Yukio replies as he hangs his coat up.
“Sit down, sit down.” Shima grabs him a cushion. “Sensei, it’s the night before the exam. You have to know something, right?”
“It’s two nights before the exam,” Kamiki huffs.
“Close enough,” Shima insists.
“You can ask, but I won’t tell you,” Yukio manages to reply, and by then Rin has already sat down next to Shima, patting the space beside him urgently. Miwa hands him a bowl, Kamiki passes him chopsticks, and the little gas stove flares to life with delicate, blue-tinted flames.
It’s warm, and he feels swept back to the time they spent together huddled in tents and around campfires to ward off the cold.
“It’s been pretty busy, right?” Suguro asks. “I’m surprised they managed to put the whole exam together so soon.”
Yukio nods. “Most of the preparations were completed before the holiday. All that was left was finding a different venue.”
“What happens if someone fails?” Kamiki prompts, glancing at Shima. “Is it for life?”
Shima shoots her a wounded look. “Why’d you look at me when…”
He grimaces when she snatches the piece of meat he was reaching for.
“I’m pretty sure if Kinzou-san could pass,” Miwa says, busy setting a bowl out for Kuro, “you could too, Shima-san.”
Shima sniffs. “I don’t know why, but that doesn’t sound like a compliment, Koneko-san.”
Yukio pushes his glasses up. “You can take the exam up to seven times. After that, they suggest you consider a different career.”
“So, you can fail six times,” Rin tells Shima, very seriously.
“No way, Okumura-kun, even you—”

This is the fic I wrote for the @byakkozine last year! It was awesome to be part of a zine for the first time, and I really loved seeing it completed!! *O *

He’s on his way back from the supermarket, but what should have been a quick fifteen-minute trip has taken him closer to an hour. His prized daikon swings back and forth in a plastic bag in his hand as Rin waits to cross the street.
In the moment that the signal light changes, someone in a black coat steps past him. Snowflakes rustle in his wake.
Here's my fic for the @byakkozine. It was such a great experience being part of this project!
