the way robin trails off when he talks about the fell dragon and then chrom stepping in and being intentionally vague about who the vessel was makes me think he's protecting robin from having to think about it again, and also from being associated with grima anymore. and i fucking will never recover from that honestly

I hate that the minor point that Sombron can summon and control Emblems and Alear is now an Emblem only comes up if you get a game over in the last chapter. I would've liked Sombron to at least gloat a little about how all he has to do is snatch the ring and he can make Alear do anything he wants. At least have the cast bring up the concern that Alear's Emblem ring might let them engage with their allies but it's also a major weakness when facing someone who can take control of Emblems when he has possession of their ring!

...Also while we're talking issues with the endgame I hate that Alear never turns into a dragon even one time. Give me Alear's dragon form, IntSys. Like, I really love the dragon designs in Engage and I would've liked to see a hybrid Divine/Fell Dragon! Where is it!

So this was originally going to be the other way around (eg. Alfred being rescued by Alear), but I couldn't find a moment in the story that would work, and then I played through the Fell Xenologue again, and then boy golly there was opportunity for hurt/comfort angst and rescue. Rafal out here making it easy for angst writers to put their little guys in situations (Chapter 5 be intense y'all).

The same way Past Alear remembers the details of their siblings' deaths, they also remember the gory details of all the people they have killed and talk about them while expressing remorse in their own broken way

"One man seemed nice. I beheaded him per Father's orders. Another woman begged for her life. I did not want her to suffer. I killed her quickly to make it painless."

Hey. So we know that although Alear's memories are wiped, he still carries subliminal trauma around. The biggest example being how he responds to the Corrupted, knowing they're something he should fear and hate even if he doesn't immediately understand.

I'd expect that the first time Sombron killed him, it left similar psychological scarring. But think about it. Sombron kills him twice, a thousand years apart, in pretty much the same way.

The first time, he's struck from behind, caught by surprise. Nothing he could do about it (except giving Sombron a double tap, I guess).

The second time, he's facing the blast head-on. He leaps deliberately into its path. He chooses it, because it's the only way to protect Veyle, to take the damage in her place.

He never stops struggling with his fear of the Corrupted, but in that instant, he has the courage to stare down something which has already killed him, for the sake of his little sister.

Then, of course, literally ten minutes later, he's volunteering to become Corrupted himself, to try and help his friends just a bit longer. He's so brave, and so good. The main character of all time to me.
