Have you ever been working on writing a scene in a story (or more specifically a fanfic) that you expected to go one way, but then your muse for a certain character insists on doing something that just totally derails the entire plan? But like, suddenly you can't envision it going any other way, so you just go with it.
Yeah, like, I love working on this one post Resident Evil 6 passion project fanfic I've been sporadically working on writing for over a decade, (started it in September of 2014) when I actually get inspiration to be able to write. But oh my gosh, writing certain characters that canonically don't like each other together in a scene, where one of them is a little shit who canonically likes to provoke the other... Scenes can derail so fast.
I've honestly been struggling with this scene for years, and it's stalled my writing progress on it for so freaking long. I know exactly what I want to happen after this scene, and I've been dying to write it for AGES. I've just been so stuck on this one part that's going to inform how the next part goes, that I've been unable to write anything that comes after. I finally sat down and just forced myself to slog through it while finishing watching a walkthrough of 9 last night. I got through it though, and now actual progress is happening, and I'm pleased with myself. Despite the complete derailment my Jake muse caused.
By the way, if you think Piers should have lived at the end of 6, and want to read the 11 chapters I've already published then end up in unfinished (but slowly progressing) story hell, here's a link:
