Hi, I'm Gerry! (yes, like the TMA character) ☆ space nerd ☆ Earth lover ☆ only hopepunk mindset on this account ☆ story blog: https://www.tumblr.com/gerrytheflyinghare?source=share
okay, i really need to rant about Gerry Keay Delano to SOMEBODY, but since none of my friends listened to tma (or they are only in process) i'll just do it here, idc + there will be the headcanons i have about him so bear with me
spoilers to all of tma, so be careful
OKAY, SO, i love Gerry so much, it's actually insane, and i have so many thoughts that it's honestly hard to decide where to start, so let's start with his (poorly dyed) hair
i was thinking why he started dying his hair in the first place, maybe it was because he got his natural hair colour from his mother, but then i recalled the episode with teen Gerry and there he already had his black hair, so it's probably just the goth™ thing
another question is why he's growing his hair out, and a few artworks with Eric Delano got me thinking that maybe it's because Gerry's father also had long hair? he could see in the photos, for example, though i'm not sure if the bitch Mary Keay was graceful enough to save any photos of her husband
another thing that i noticed: Gerry said that he always wanted his friends to call him, well, Gerry (i was genuinely bawling my eyes out by the end of MAG 111), and then later, when talking to Gertrude, Eric also calls Gerry by this form of his name. when eric died, Gerry was about two years old, maybe he somehow has some vague memory of his father calling him that, and that's why he wanted his friends to call him by this form of his name, opposed to how his mother called him
when and how did he start smoking? was it during his time with Mary, or when he was already with Gertrude? i don't remember any mention of Mary Keay smoking, but we know for sure that Gertrude did, so maybe the all-seeing grandma served as a bad influence?
it's been said before but he is genuinely so kind and SO strong, and i mean morally, like? it was so easy for him to turn into a monster. yes, no matter what he would still most likely be going around and burning books out of pure hatred towards his mother and the laughed out of town cowboy, but he also decides to just help people? when met with horrors it's so easy to turn into "if i suffered why shouldn't everyone else suffer as well?" kind of person, but he didn't? instead, knowing how dangerous it is and how hard it is to deal with all that he interrupts the plans of the entities and saves the strangers he would never see anymore in his life. the man is so strong and kind and he actually cares, i'm going to cry¿¿¿?
kinda have a thought about how goth music resonated with his emotional state due to living in an actual nightmare, but the thought is very vague, so just take it as it is
he's a cat person, argue with the wall
i also headcanon him listening to Bring Me The Horizon and The Funeral Portrait (along with the widespread MCR headcanon) because they're associated with him a lot in my head
that's it for now, i'll be adding more but right now it's the middle of the night and my brain won't work, bye
out of the bad habits (that people often use to cope with reality) the only one mentioned regarding Gerry is smoking. nothing said about drinking or drugs, which lead me to thinking about another coping mechanism — daydreaming. as someone who often gets lost in my own thoughts for hours, i can only imagine how many times he probably found himself lost in imaginary scenarios. again the moment in MAG 111 when he told Jon that he always wanted his friends to call him Gerry tells us that he thought about it at least more than a few times. he never managed to make actual friends, he was fucking lonely, and while most of the time he could work on disrupting the horrors' (or his mother's) plans, everyone sometimes have these moments where we are left alone with our thoughts, and the truth is — people need other people, and i am on the verge of tears every time i think about how many times he thought about just living a normal life with his non-existent friends
anyways, thank you @almondfish3042 for inspiration, i am feeling sick
HIS HOBBIES. from what we know, Gerry is a really good artist, makes me wonder if he had a sketchbook that he maybe kept in his drawer or maybe carried with himself wherever he went. was he drawing the fears to take them out of his head or maybe just sketching the scenery? made music-inspired illustrations? maybe drew Leitner with a stick up his ass idk
was thinking maybe at some point he tried himself at music too but not sure about it
JUST REALIZED THAT SINCE HE'S AN ARTIST IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE THAT HE IMAGINES THE FEARS LIKE COLOURS AS HE SAID IN MAG 111 OH MY VAST THIS IS SO— *microwave sounds*
does he like spicy food or prefer sweets? i can't make up my mind about it
i like to think that he was liked by kids even though he himself tried to distance himself from any interaction with them as much as possible. kids can really feel good people and he is just so. good. i usually don't like labeling people as "good" or "bad" but here i just. Y'ALL AGREE WITH ME. besides, kids really like cool-looking people and he looks cool af
I don't think people who come from wattpad after the purge and now want ao3 to have its own official app understand that one of the main reasons behind the recent wattpad purge that drove them to ao3 was due to pressure from appstore demanding wattpad to be more strict and follow appstore's policy. wattpad complied in order for its app to be able to remain on appstore. thus the wattpad purge.
ao3 doesn't have an app because for it to have an app, appstore will have to approve it first. and if, hypothetically, ao3 needs appstore to approve it, it will also have to abide by appstore's pro-censorship stance and start banning dark and taboo fics, which is against its own core principle of being completely against censorship.
ao3 doesn't need an app. it works more than fine without an app. the reason ao3 can allow dark and taboo fics, the reason it can allow the most disgusting and shockingly vile fics, and be completely against censorship is because it doesn't need appstore's approval. it stands on its own as a non-profit organization with functioning site and a team of lawyers protecting its platform, its users, and every single fanwork on its platform.
everybody say thank you ao3
here's the list of things you need to know about ao3 if you're new to the platform
i always find it a little funny when people complain about the pronunciation of Gerard Keay's first name, saying Jon pronounces it like Jared. Because like, to me as an English person, Gerard and Jared still sound very different, as one starts with a Je sound and one with a Ja sound, which Americans somehow don't seem to notice? I think it's because most American dialects pronounce both with the Je sound, but correct me if I'm wrong
However, as soon as we get past the first syllable, I can agree that Jon goes a bit crazy, as I have never heard a single person pronounce the 'ard' bit like that, American or British
As someone whose first language isn't english, it was a surprise to me that people thought Gerry's name was Jared, I always heard it as Gerard. Though, I assume it might be because I saw it on pinterest prior to listening to the podcast itself
been seeing Protocal!Gerry with more of his roots showing, and I get the instinct to make the brighter/happier version of him has brighter/lighter colors but hear me out; his hair would actually be fully dyed because Gertrude would help him.
I was telling my brother about Gerard keay as one does and we started debating which way he would be trans and I just wanted to share this quote from him
"what if in one universe he was trans masc and in the other she was trans fem and then met each other and kissed. Think about it."
Being in the great plains has made me LOVE the vast, nothing beats being out in the rolling hills with not a tree in sight to break the horizon and its just you, ground and an absolutely GIANT sky, its genuinely so beautiful how big the sky is in the plains it genuinely feels like it could eat you whole and id let it eat me whole. Its genuinely breathtaking how big it feels alone in the plains miles and miles away from civilization.
How fucking BIG the sky feels its both so far yet feels sooooo close because of its scale and it completely surrounds you its genuinely so beautiful and breathtaking in a way that to many people simply over look cuz "plains = borning"
