Just came to a realization that even Frodo wouldn't say 'Sam is the real hero' even in the dialogue at the end of the Two Towers movie. When Sam says Frodo will be sung in books, he says 'Frodo wouldn't have gotten far without Sam', not 'Sam is the real hero'. He's modest, he acknowledges Sam's role, but he doesn't diminish his own burden. He's not proud in the arrogant sense, but he knows he's carrying something no one else does, and he doesn't self-deprecate even though he's modest at heart. I'm glad that the movie kept that sentence. Frodo is never just a passive sufferer, he's someone who knows what he carried, who knows he couldn't have carried it alone, and who refuses to diminish either truth.

Tbh I love Sam, I'm just tired about fandom sometimes saying he's the only real hero when the two of them did it together.

i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is “international” pride month just because something happened in the united states.

in aotearoa, june isn’t our pride, it’s theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that “you owe your rights to Black trans women” is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) Māori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.

But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa don’t even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we don’t.

our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.

anyway, happy pride, americans. i’m truly sorry that most of you don’t see the negative impact your nation’s culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and culture’s queer history, don’t accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.

And Melkor knew of all that was done, for even then he had secret friends and spies among the Maiar whom he had converted to his cause; and far off in the darkness he was filled with hatred, being jealous of the work of his peers, whom he desired to make subject to himself. Therefore he gathered to himself spirits out of the halls of Eä that he had perverted to his service, and he deemed himself strong.

I just like imagining all the unlimited terrible forms that the spirits Melkor twisted and perverted to his service could take. The way he might have snatched up bits and pieces of creations from the songs of of Yavanna and created new, warped bodies for those spirits so that they could invade the newly created world.

I also just like drawing fun creepy lil dudes.
