excited to throw some colors on this one
Every morning, I put on my thinking cap and my smartiepants. Unfortunately, there is no shirt that properly proclaims my intellectual abilities, so I have to go tits out
The moment I saw these double doors in our apartment, I knew I wanted to put colorful foil on them:
Today my wife did it, and I couldn't be more stunned and happy:
Isn't it amazing? This is a dream come true, and it makes me so happy! 🩵🧡💚💛💙❤️🩷
The doors continue to delight:
(pics taken as the sun shines through the doors, making all the colors shine and projecting some of them across the hallway floor) (edited this reblog to add a second pic)
This post is almost at 11,111 notes and I hope someone screenshots it when it happens!
@purlturtle here you are I got it for you!
what if I told you that I am RIVETED to my notifications at the moment, for fear that I will miss it
The galaxy map of this post's reblogs is a thing of beauty:
This isn't a post from a big blog that a ton of people reblogged from that one big blog. This isn't even a post that got big because one big blog reblogged it. Yes, there were a few big-name boosts, but almost all of these reblogs are just, this post ambling through Tumblr making people happy.
And that makes *me* happy. Thank you, fellow Tumblrinas!
Y'all.
My wife found this incredible rug to go into the living room, that matches the doors so so so well!
Isn't it fabulous?

i do have to say that no matter how shitty any sort of media is or how shitty your own creations are. always remember
One of the things that fascinates me (breaks my heart) in the “Rocky fix” scene: Grace looks heavier and heavier as Rocky won’t accept his death, refuses to be comforted or calm. His voice starts to roughen and crack with emotion. It’s like Rocky’s horror and grief brings his back up to the surface. And he spent so long shoving it down, down, down so he could work—telling himself it was necessary, he chose this, he doesn’t get to resent or regret it. But Rocky won’t give him even a tiny thumbs up. And it gets to Grace. Grace hangs his head, braces himself on his knees, struggles to answer Rocky. He can’t even say the word “brave” out loud, he’s so overwhelmed. He turns and walks away to hide his face.
And then — the unbelievable offer of a reprieve. Release. Relief. His slumped shoulders straighten with an enormous indrawn breath before he turns, and we see his face. He lets Rocky see everything, and doesn’t wipe the tears away. And that’s the part that really gets me—he doesn’t look overjoyed at first. He’s trembling. He’s profoundly relieved but he also looks almost devastated. I wonder if those were the final moments of truly feeling the grief of what had been asked of him. He could feel it, now that there was an end to it, a way out. It wasn’t too enormous anymore.
It’s only when he finally finds words to ask for a hug that lightness begins to come in, and resting against Rocky, he finally smiles.
@gaysails how dare you be funnier than my post
i am cringe but i am not free 💔 im cringe and extremely self conscious
getting teary eyed thinking about gerda gottlieb's paintings of her wife after she transitioned
thing is, for a lot of these paintings it wasn’t “after” lily elbe’s transition. there was no after to it. the one op posted was painted in 1928. this was 2 years before lily legally changed her name and began undergoing revolutionary gender affirming procedures. unfortunately she died due to complications of an experimental uterine transplant in 1931.
up until that point, during the day lily continued to dress in masculine clothing and even attended galleries showing gottlieb’s paintings of her. which was kind of iconic. she got to stand in a room full of people who were marveling her beauty, not knowing she was right next to them. it must have been such a cute little secret for them as a couple.
here’s gerda and lilly together
not to mention that for most people there is no real “after” to a transition. especially for these trans historical figures who had to balance identity and safety at all times.
i think having a wife paint these portraits must have felt really amazing for lily. to be able to see herself through the eyes of someone who loved her. i’m very much seconding op on the getting teary eyed.
here are some of my favorite gottleib lily paintings
today in defenses of boromir that no one asked for: tired of reading that boromir’s death was in vain because he failed to save merry & pippin from the uruk-hai. the fact that this clearly important warrior was willing to die to protect those two is what convinced the urukhai that they had indeed captured the halfing who carried whatever important thing saruman wanted. they took the hobbits to isengard (to isengard gard) because they thought they had the right ones! boromir didn’t succeed in preventing their capture but he did in fact keep them alive by making them seem valuable. furthermore, he actually also saves frodo in this way: because the orcs and uruk-hai think they have what they came for, they stop looking and turn back: if they had not, they might have ultimately found and captured frodo or at least raised the alarm that a hobbit with an Important Thing was on the loose, setting others searching. which is the very heart of tolkien’s worldview - that you do the right thing because it is right, and doing the right thing is never in vain.
to conclude this essay boromir died a hero and saved not just merry and pippin but also frodo and sam.
some excellent additions in the tags here @erynalasse & @manta-ray-parade
[ID: Tumblr tags that read ’“#thank you op #and also on a wider note #it bothers me that people say boromir’s death was in vain #as if utulity is the only axis we measure worth on #i’m sure tolkien would have disliked the implication #that honor and courage and a real effort to do better #especially after succumbing to temptation #somehow don’t matter #because they do!
#but also his willingness to sacrifice himself for the hobbits/fellowship shows the ring did not end up consuming him #his love for the hobbits saved him from the ring’. There are two pleading emojis at the end. End ID]
Also, also! He managed to survive long enough to send help after merry and pippin. If he had succumbed to his wounds before, Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn wouldn’t know where to look for merry and pippin and would have needed longer to find them. That alone makes Boromir a hero!
tags by sunderwight: #i mean if you want to claim that his sacrifice meant nothing because he didn’t stop merry and pippin being captured #we could also flip that and claim that his betrayal meant nothing since he failed to take the ring from frodo
You also can’t ignore the fact that it was Boromir’s sacrifice that inspired Pippin to swear his service to Gondor, placing him exactly where he needed to be to help save Faramir. Boromir’s final act set up the domino effect that saved his beloved brother’s life!
being anti-divorce is so fucking bonkers to me like yeah i think you're morally obligated to stay with some shithead who you hate forever. this is a normal and healthy thing to believe. let's have kids together and force them to grow up being raised by two people who hate each other. yeah this might fuck them up mentally during the most formative years of their life but it's the morally righteous thing to do. if there's one thing god loves it's traumatized children. i'm getting into heaven for sure
nature documentary but the narration is just weird enough to make you question it
“Some fish can walk out of water, so remember that next time.”
“You might think you’re safe, but horses are omnivores”
please watch the round planet on netflix it’s exactly like that
its terrible for any number of reasons, but i think if we invent immortality there should be an extreme sport called civilizational speedrunning where teams of 20 go into the wilderness somewhere and try and be the fastest build the first internal combustion engine. i bet you could get it down to like 3 years tops
The real trick is to eat seed heavy food before the speedrun starts so your first poops are halfway to agriculture already
i want you on my team holy shit
