All I need is for someone to gently cup my face and tell me I'm not as doomed as I feel.

self care for when you hit rock bottom
i fucking hate self care posts made by neurotypicals so here’s one from someone who Actually Gets It
-can’t shower or take a bath? me either. dry shampoo can make your hair look and feel cleaner, and baby wipes or makeup wipes work great to get the top layer of grime off your skin.
-can’t wash your sheets and make your bed? i feel you. push your blankets out of the way and shake the crumbs off your sheet. it will at least be a bit more comfortable.
-can’t even change out of your dirty pajamas? been there. hit yourself with some febreeze and a lint roller. if you can, brush your hair. if you can’t, hair ties and bobby pins are fantastic.
-can’t make anything to eat? same. if you can, there’s no shame in ordering food. in fact, it’s probably better you eat something rather than go hungry. if you can’t, try and find something that comes pre-made or takes minimal effort to make. at the very least, drink some water.
can’t respond to messages or reach out for help? yeah, i get that. set an alarm for a few hours from now and respond to any messages you need to once you’ve given yourself time to prepare. if they’re Important Messages that need Professional Responses, you can find fill-in-the-blank format rough drafts on google. as far as personal messages go, don’t feel bad for sending a mass “I’m sorry, I’m in a personal emergency right now. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.” response to everyone.
-can’t even sleep because it’s so bad? asmr videos always knock me out, personally, but i also watch a lot of bob ross. just try to find something quiet and soothing to use as background noise and take your mind off it, or at least give you a more peaceful environment to think about it.
-can’t go for a walk/drive? try opening the blinds or curtains. you’re still exposing yourself to the outside world. baby steps. (i also play animal crossing or sims; it may be virtual but fuck it. i went on a walk.)
-can’t go into work/school? let people know. let your coworkers or classmates know it’s an emergency and you can’t make it. give yourself up to two days, but then you have to go back. ask to have your work emailed to you so you know what you missed.
-can’t brush your teeth and wash your face? makeup or baby wipes and gum or mouthwash. don’t let yourself physically rot bc you’re rotting emotionally.
-remember that you’ve been here before. if you survived then you can survive now. that’s what this is about- survival. you don’t have to be living your Best Life. right now, it’s more than enough that you’re alive.
This is the only self car masterpost I’ve ever seen that is feasible for severe depressive episodes
Wwwwwoooowww needed this
Look. Someone that gets it. Rather than just someone who’s never been there “gently reminding you” to shower and eat and drink.

How Long is this Fic Really?: A Guide
Word count in the HP Series:
Sorcerer’s Stones: 76,944 Chamber of Secrets: 85,141 Prisoner of Azkaban: 107,253 Goblet of Fire: 190,637 Order of the Phoenix: 257,045 Half-Blood Prince: 168,923 Deathly Hallows: 198,227
Word count in the LOTR Series:
The Hobbit: 95,022 Fellowship of the Ring: 177,227 Two Towers: 143,436 Return of the King: 134,462
This changed me
I’ve read/ am reading fic that are upwards to 150,000 - 200,000. You’re telling me that authors that write for fun are writing a full-length book for the fun of it? They have earned my respect 10 fold.
A friendly reminder.
Adding on to this by reminding everyone to leave feedback on fics. Seriously, y’all, fic writers put their heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears, and time into their writing. The least that you could do is let them know you enjoyed their works.
A question that plagued me
As a gay Christian, specifically a gay Catholic, I’ve been plagued with the same question for as long as I’ve even considered that I may be a lesbian. And ever since I came out, I’ve gotten this question more frequently than anything else:
Isn’t homosexuality a sin?
Aren’t you going to go to hell?
I spent years debating this. I never had an answer until recently, and I’m writing this post for the gay Christians that are scared, and for the straight Christians that give our church it’s bad reputation of blatant homophobia.
The most common argument I hear for homophobia is that in the book of Leviticus, “a man must not lie with a man as with a woman” and that in Genesis, God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. But does Christ not call us to love one another? Are we not called to “love one another as [Jesus] has loved [us]” regardless of gender? If your argument is that it’s wrong to be gay, so God hates you, you’re unfortunately very mistaken. God loves me and you and all the other people regardless of gender or sexuality; if God doesn’t make mistakes, then we are to love however we are made to by God.
Recall that familiar story in the Bible, where the centurion goes to Jesus and asks that Jesus heal his servant. You probably think of it as a touching story of a kind-hearted Roman soldier, but in reality, it’s a story of God healing a gay man’s boyfriend. In the original Greek version of that particular gospel, the Centurion refers to his servant as the Greek word that means a servant who’s duty is to be his/her master’s companion and lover. The man was, in essence, his master’s lover, and Jesus didn’t turn the centurion away because of this. He instead said “your faith has saved you”. Jesus didn’t reprimand the centurion or tell him he’d go to hell for having gay sex, he blessed that lovely gay biblical couple.
I had a conversation a few years ago, with one of my dad’s best friends. He is also Gay and Catholic, and when we spoke, he told me how important it is to love other, in all forms of love, whether filial or agape or eros love, regardless of gender, and that is why he doesn’t consider his sexuality a sin, and neither do I.
At the end of the day, faith, and its expression in the form of religion, is about our personal relationship with God. Or gender doesn’t determine our faith, nor does our sexuality, race, or age. In the words of Pope Francis, “if a person is gay, and follows the Lord, who am I to judge?”

When you’re not straight, dating is a lot like trying to get a job: either you try online or get a referral from a friend
omfg its true
Straight dating can be that way too, especially if you’re not outgoing
Okay but like you can literally walk to the grocery store and find your potential mate without fear of judgement or being harmed. I can’t just walk into a Home Depot and shout “anybody queer in here?” So yeah
Who the fuck goes to home depot to find a partner
The Lesbians™
This is perfect.
Here’s a fun piece of information for you. “Femme” doesn’t mean “cute and frilly and loves high heels more than anything but also can totally kick your ass–while wearing lipstick!!!! Oh and also I might like girls…” If that’s your entire context and framing of it, if the conversations about problems Femmes face only include things like how people are surprised if we’re not sexually submissive and how we have to constantly come out in ways that differ from the ways every other person who’s not straight does (because, believe me–straight is still the expected default for everyone), then you’re ignoring the entire history and context of Femme identities and lives.
Femme is histories of survival. It’s a history of raids and fear and violence and strength. It’s being attacked by cops and disowned by families and being denied income and safety and having to fight to find communities. It’s finding what should be your communities and realizing you’re not welcome there, that you’re not ~queer~ or ~radical~ enough to fit in. It’s those communities also telling butches and gnc women the same things. It’s realizing that there are no safe spaces for you or for lesbians in general. It’s knowing that the histories of femmes and butches are connected because we’ve been fighting these things together for decades, watching as we each have to face different types of abuse and shame that stem from many of the same places. It’s knowing that our histories are unequivocally histories of trans women and women of color and fat women and disabled women and watching the larger community try to separate femmes from each other anyhow by implying that “femme” is for thin, white, cis women who fit into specific ideals of “healthy.” It’s knowing that our identity is still only validated when we’re deemed fuckable by men.
It’s also knowing that even though we have been fighting these same fights from all angles for decades, we’re going to keep doing it. Because femme is also histories of connections and victories and sometimes not giving a fuck. It’s knowing that the fights we’re thrown into might look different from the fights other lesbians face and also knowing that’s not going to keep us out of those fights or keep us from supporting the people whose histories connect with ours. It’s histories of finding love and friendship and commonality. It’s the moments of “I’m not alone…other people get this” and standing together.
So the watering down of Femme identities and erasing of lives and histories to make our identity palatable to people trying to deny us our history needs to end right the fuck now.

These fans have taught me a great deal about the importance of listening to those people whose views not only shape the culture, but whose ideas and emotions defy the limits of the imagination, and whose understand and longing for the greatest of all possible journeys - to outer space, and beyond - introduces into our otherwise rather restricted vernacular the concept of infinite possibility. I’d say that’s a fan base worth its weight in gold, wouldn’t you?
