While I'm working on a long blog post to further explain this, I need to add this on - we've reached the point where you can't steal the game, you can't buy merch from indie artists - it all feeds into trackable metrics that tell studios and JKR that you're still interested. And she takes your silent support as an endorsement for her hate. You can't separate the art from the artist, when she's using the art to pay for her hate.

okay so ive been avoiding hearing anything about the new harry potter game. im sure a lot of us have. if yall dont know, its a major game and not a shitty mobile game or anything. but i just found out its apparently about fucking suppressing the goblin rebellion. no, not helping them bc hey maybe that would be a good thing. nope! youre tasked with putting the goblins back in their place apparently.

for anyone who doesnt remember, the goblins were the banker characters who worked in gringotts and looked Uncomfortably Like jewish stereotypes. and youre suppose to suppress their rebellion, where theyre rebelling against the fact that like most nonhuman magical creatures, theyre treated like shit by wizards. yep :)

Enough is enough. Fuck JK Rowling. And FUCK HARRY POTTER. YES! I said it! FUCK Harry Potter!

It breaks my heart. I LOVED Harry Potter as a kid. A queer, autistic kid related so dang hard to the boy who lived. The boy who lived in a closet, and then finally getting to go somewhere that’s home. And that he was accepted. I, like many other kids didn’t see the antisemitism. My fiancé did. Especially in the movies. There’s a literal Star of David in the floor of Gringotts. And I missed it. Didn’t notice it. But he did. And people told my Jewish fiancé that he was overreacting. I didn’t notice the racism in that Cho Chang is a ridiculous name for an East Asian character. The ONLY East Asian character in the books. I didn’t know that Cho was a Chinese surname and not an actual Chinese name. I didn’t see the racism in Angelina being the ONLY Black character that we see in the books that basically does anything having her hair described as “worms” by another character and no one does anything about it. Yes, that girl calling her braids worms was a bully, but no one came to Angelina’s defense. And don’t even get me started on the HOUSE ELVES “They LIKE being enslaved” and that Hermione trying to abolish this was met with only mocking thing.) I didn’t notice the blatant ableism that there are ZERO disabled people in Hogwarts. And she saying in an interview that all disabilities are magically cured. And the homophobia of only having one gay character where not only does it never come up once in seven books and eight movies, the one time dumbledore falls in love, it’s with a genocidal maniac. The AIDS metaphor with Lupin was disgusting as well. Especially since you made this metaphor, then shoehorned a straight romance for Lupin…. I didn’t notice the anti Irish stereotype of Seamus Finnegan being stupid, hot headed, and loving blowing shit up. Oh and trying to turn water into rum at eleven years old in the first movie. Like. Okay. Cool.

I could go on and on. About how ugliness is associated with evilness and beauty is associated with purity. The disgusting treatment of Fleur by Mrs. Weasley and Ginny. The weird purity culture-esque approach to sexuality. About how Hermione disfigured another student and KEPT A WOMAN TRAPPED IN A JAR FOR A YEAR, and no one once calls her out on it. The rape implications of the centaurs and Umbridge. And on and on and on.

I was a child who loved these books for their themes of found family and adventure. Hogwarts felt like home. I loved being a Potterhead. I loved these books. I loved the characters like family. And I was devastated to learn all of this. But there are so many other, better stories out there. I cannot in good conscience support this woman in any way.

She is a bigoted, racist, antisemitic, TERF. Fuck Harry Potter and fuck JK Rowling.
